5.0 out of 5 stars RBG 4 LIFE!!!!
I remember back in the summer of 1998 when Dpz spoke at the million youth march In NYC at Harlem. A dose of Dpz is what the world needed, a much change for hip-hop. I like all their previous CD's "Let's Get Free" and "Turn Off The Radio" vol.one. "Let's get free or die trying" is a very good album. "F**k tha law" is very easy to...

3.0 out of 5 stars Get Free or Die Tryin' Falls Short
After dead prez's brilliant groundbreaking first album Let's Get Free, the Uhuru duo gave themselves an extremely high standard to live up to, and their latest mixtape unfortunately falls short of those standards. While there are a few dope cuts on here, such as "F&*k the Law" and "O.G (Original Garvey)", the album has a very inconsistent feel to...

After dead prez's brilliant groundbreaking first album Let's Get Free, the Uhuru duo gave themselves an extremely high standard to live up to, and their latest mixtape unfortunately falls short of those standards. While there are a few dope cuts on here, such as "F&*k the Law" and "O.G (Original Garvey)", the album has a very inconsistent feel to it. The production is lackluster in places, and stic.man and M1 haven't progressed much lyrically from their second mixtape. While I have nothing but love for dead prez and the ideals they promote, this album lacks creativity and doesn't do much to distinguish itself either musically or lyrically. Be sure to pick up Let's Get Free and Turn off the Radio, as for this album, if you're a hardcore dead prez fan cope it, if not while till their next LP, Red Black and Green drops.

Peace
Glen

I like all their previous CD's "Let's Get Free" and "Turn Off The Radio" vol.one. "Let's get free or die trying" is a very good album. "F**k tha law" is very easy to recite and full of energy."Last dayz reloaded" a great track featuring Onyx. "Revolutionary Love" is a hot track, over a bounce beat is hot 2 def. "afrika" is another banger with stic.man teaching geography of all the 52 nations on Africa. A great album indeed. At first listen I thought the production was weak...but the lyrics and their message is deep. I give this album an full fledged five***.

Thank Goodness for Dead Prez to keep us uplifted, inspired and educated through the trail & tribulations bought on by the media and those self proclaimed right wingers. This is a revolutionary hip hop classic. Definately one for your collection. Not since Public Ememy have we had true crusaders on the mike to spit truth & reality. Go Get This Mixtape.

5.0 out of 5 stars So much to life when you stay black and die, September 6, 2004
This review is from: Get Free Or Die Trying (Audio CD)
dead prez fills a void created by the disbandment of Goodie Mob (atleast the separation of Cee-lo from the group) and the humanitarian mantra that Outkast seems to have adopted. They are one of the only groups in hip hop that articulates the black urban struggle without mincing words or editing themselves - lest they offend their swelling suburban fan base.

This record reminds me of Goodie's 1996 debut "Soul Food" - but with a east coast astestic. It's heartfelt, honest, incendiary, inspirational, and the perfect backing track for brothers involved in the struggle. Get it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Dead Prez- Turn Off The Radio: The Mixtape, Vol. 2: Get Free or Die Tryin', August 13, 2006
This review is from: Get Free Or Die Trying (Audio CD)
Having bought both of Dead Prez (Stic.Man, M-1) album's "Lets Get Free" & "RBG: Revolutionary But Gangsta", and enjoyed M-1's solo album " Dead Prez Presents M-1: Confidential" and their latest mixtape collaboration with the Outlawz "Can't Sell Dope Forever", I checked out their second official mixtape release "Turn Off The Radio: The Mixtape, Vol. 2: Get Free Or Die Tryin'" (2003). After the intro Dead Prez start the album off with a banger in "F*** The Law". They then change things up providing a memorable and laidback joint in "Coming Of Age", Stic.Man delivers a outstanding chorus, and the duo recall days past. After two short track's Dead Prez deliver a solid cut with "Scared to Die". Dead Prez shines again when telling tragic and deep tales on the sad "When Mama Cries". Dead Prez then tag team "Last Days Reloaded" with Onyx providing a grimy cut. Other track's that follow are not so memorable- more experimental with very little production. "Turn Off The Radio: The Mixtape, Vol. 2: Get Free Or Die Tryin'" is a solid Mixtape. Dead Prez in my opinion are one of the best current group's in the Rap game, delivering substantial hard hitting music in an industry full of one hit wonders. I am looking forward to Dead Prez next release and hope that Stic.Man decides to do a solo album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Mixtape I've ever heard, September 7, 2010
This review is from: Get Free Or Die Trying (Audio CD)
Strong relevant potent lyrics of uplifment. This is as well as the follow up RGB serves as motivation music for me personally. Very few other artists' music has had that effect on me. Bob Marley, Public Enemy are the only other artists' I can think of off top that actually have the ability to alter my mood in a positive way. I don't agree with everything they say, but thier focus is inspiring. Big up Dead Prez...str8!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best mixtape of the year, November 29, 2006
This review is from: Get Free Or Die Trying (Audio CD)
Dead Prez keeps the gems coming on this second mixtape Get Free Or Die Trying. While these other guys' mixtapes are all about guns, drugs and whose breath smells like badunkadunk, Dead Prez continues to give you socially and politically conscious rhymes. Standout Tracks: F*** THE LAW, COMING OF AGE, TALLAHASSEE DAYS, SCARED TO DIE(free Askari X), BABYFACE(dude killed it!), WHEN MAMMA CRIES, WINDOW TO MY SOUL(Stic dedicates this one to his dope fiend brother), LAST DAYS RELOADED(killer collabo with Onyx), REAL BLACK GIRL(the beat is hypnotizing)and O.G.(Original Garvey). Filler: Out in the world(sounds like circus music)and Paper Paper(too short to be enjoyed). Bottom Line: Get Free Or Die Trying is a great follow up to Turn Off The Radio. Unlike the first one they dont borrow anybody's beat they use their own beats plus the production is tight. I strongly recommend this mixtape for anybody who wants a break from the norm.

4.0 out of 5 stars Real rap, March 1, 2005
This review is from: Get Free Or Die Trying (Audio CD)
Dead prez is a constant reminder of what hip-hop is now and what it could have been. Social injustice, racism, and other social issues are all over all of dead prez's stuff. Wnere as 50 cent and everything out now has climated to fasination with money and sampagne. The cd is full of something that is real which is rare now for rap.
