Praise the Lordi,
By MAC THREE (Cheyenne, WY) - See all my reviews The songs on the CD all have great music backing Lordi's impressive vocal range. The fact that they're all dressed like McFarlane toys just reflects their over-the-top music. I highly reccomnend rock/metal fans to check this CD out: You won't be sorry!

Very Good!,
By Jason Baluszek (Courtice,Ontario,Canada) - See all my reviews So Off I went and downloaded the CD [sorry $40 for an import is too much, try ebay.ca] and it was amazing! I suggest listening to the 2 singles "Devil Is A Loser" and "Would You Love A Monsterman" and a few other great tracks "Get Heavy!" "Dynamite Tonight" and "Last Kiss Goodbye" and the fast-paced "Biomechanical Man". This is a great CD, but if you want to get into Lordi first, I recommend buying the Compilation CD "Monster Show" first, which includes 12 Great songs handpicked from each of they're cd's and plus you get the DVD which includes all the music vids which kickass!

This review is from: Get Heavy (Audio CD)
"Get Heavy" is the debut album by Finnish glam/shock metal band "Lordi" originally released in 2002. The line up is bulit around frontman/singer Lordi featuring guitarist Amen, drummer Kita, bassist Kalma and Key player Enary.
At the time `Lordi' came out as a band determined to carry the torch of American authorities in the glam/shock genre such as Alice Cooper and "W.A.S.P." and to a fair extent they managed to stand up to the standards of the genre form their first album "Get heavy". Lordi established their 80's influenced glam/shock style on "Get heavy" which could be described as a mixture of "W.A.S.P."-like riffs, Alice's dark vocal and instrumental melodies complemented by AOR-ish keyboards; the contradicing surprise came to be Lordi's vocals, the frontman sings in a gory, monstrous style that even so allows him to come up with catchy melodies during the choruses, never going brutal. Still, when putting the theatrics aside, one comes to realize that "Lordi's" music is essentially super catchy 80s hard rock with a strong emphasis on partying and dark houmor. Songs like "Get heavy", "The devil is a looser", the gigantic "Would you love a monster man?" and the overly melodic "Not the nicest" guy are enough to convince almost any fan on 80's oriented hard rock while establishing "Lordi" as the latest greatest force in Shock/horror metal.

It's time to Get HEAVY!!,
Lordi, the finnish monster rockers are the new Kiss, but more darker and extreme. Playing melodic hard rock and heavy metal, they receantly took the world over by surprise by winning the 2006 Eurovision Pop Song Contest. Their first CD shows that they are just as good then as now. The CD starts off with a nice eerie intro, then blasts it's way to Get Heavy! Following is the classic riproaring Devil is a Loser, chanting the way for Rock The Hell Outta You. The beautiful Would You Love a Monsterman quickly captivates you with it's awesome guitar riffs and Mr. Lordi's raspy vocals. The piano ballad Icon Of Dominance is follows, giving way for the rhythmitic Not The Nicest Guy. Hellbender Turbulence is follows, coninued by the mechanical Biomechanic Man. Last Kiss Goodbye is romance Lordi style, followed by the explosive Dynamite Tonite. Monster Monster nicely closes up the songs, then the sinister musical 13 plays. It's been a long time since any band has delivered such wonderful music all in monstermaniac style and fashion! If you love Kiss, horror movies, and classic heavy metal, buy this album. It's a must have!
Great Tracks: Get Heavy, Devil Is a Loser, Would You Love a Monsterman, Not The Nicest Guy, Biomechanic Man, Dynamite Tonite

Melodic Monsters,
By Mike Sehorn "Rezo the Dezo" (APO, AE United States) - See all my reviews Though their level of recognition has climbed over the last two years, the essentials of what is the Lordi-style of rock has remained in-place throughout their publicized existence, and if you enjoyed "The Arockalypse", chances are that you'll enjoy their debut album, "Get Heavy". While not exactly stripped-back, the music sounds a bit rougher and less refined than their later releases would: less emphasis is placed on keyboards and synthesizers, and the remaining instrumentation sounds significantly heavier than what the world has come to expect from the monster group. Not to lower expectations, though, the songs are rich with melody and sing-along choruses - as well as head-banging value - and generally retain the 80s-inspired KISS & Cooper feel that Lordi enjoy telling people about. The singles "Devil Is A Loser" and "Would You Love A Monsterman?" are the foremost highlights of the album: respectively super catchy and super melodic, they are great themes for the band as a whole, and terrific party songs. The anthems "Get Heavy" and "Rock The Hell Out Of You", as well as the closing number "Monster Monster", are just as good, and continue the catchy/bombastic formula. "Not The Nicest Guy", "Hellbender Turbulence", "Biomechanic Man", "Last Kiss Goodbye", and "Dynamite Tonight" are still fun, but lack the lyrical quality of the earlier numbers. Although the album doesn't fizzle out under their offerings, they're of the kind of songs that are best enjoyed if you're not giving them undivided attention; at least a few of them might be considered filler material. Personally, I enjoy "Icon Of Dominance", but fans remain divided about this number: neither a single nor intended filler, it's a slow, moody, keyboard-driven number that sees Lordi whispering most of the lyrics. Oh, and the opening and outro tracks are short sounds-effects numbers that set a horror-movie mood to the album (as if it needed it). When it was first released, I considered the album to be flawless, but even though time has pointed out a few bumps in the album's production, it is, above all, an incredibly fun CD to listen to. Definitely recommended to fans of Alice Cooper, Twisted Sister, etc, but also for lovers of Scandinavian metal in whole. You won't be disappointed!

Lordi is an awesome band. Their lyrics reminds me of something Alice Cooper might have on a CD. I recommend this CD to anyone who wants to hear awesome music...
