4.0 out of 5 stars BETTER than "Guerilla Warfare"
This is the Hot Boys debut CD, released in 1997, before the Hot Boys went national. This CD is better than their most recent release, partly for that reason. It really shows on this album that they were putting their heart into making every track as dope as possible. "We on Fire" has a beat that's ten times better than the new version. "Take it Off...

This is the Hot Boys debut CD, released in 1997, before the Hot Boys went national. This CD is better than their most recent release, partly for that reason. It really shows on this album that they were putting their heart into making every track as dope as possible. "We on Fire" has a beat that's ten times better than the new version. "Take it Off Your Shoulder," Juvenile's solo track, is one of his best songs to date. Even the intro to this album revolves around a dope beat. If you like the down south sound, you'll LOVE this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just as good as Guerrilla warfare, if not better., July 18, 2000

This cd is just 2 raw, Juve, turk, bg'z, lil weezy, are just takin on everyone and winning. It's just as good as warfare, trust me. Whoever gets it, email your opinions to Krazy16699@aol.com! This LP is more of the mellow type. Warfare is the one that gets you pumped. Don't let that repel you from the CD. All the hot boys are putting bombs on NLS, by lyrics, beats, everything. I'm doin this for your own good....... GET THIS CD NOW! I'm not demanding but believe me, do it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The album that set if off!, September 4, 2005
This review is from: Get It How U Live !! [PA] [EXPLICIT LYRICS] (Audio CD)
This is the Hot Boys' first album as a group, and even though Cash Money Records had sold hundrieds of thousands of records before it as well, this was the record that gave them the Universal deal. Untill this album, the label was huge only in their region, and while it was enough to make Baby and his label rich, very few oustide the Dirty South had heard about CMR. Well, that album changed all that. It sold more than 400,000 copies independantely!... So, what's so special about this one?... It's the first time the four hottest rappers on the label united and worked together. This album was released in 1997, so all of them were VERY young: Juvenile was 22, B.G. was 17, Lil' Wayne was only 14(!) and Turk wasn't much older as well. Depite their young age, all of them menage to impress - each one having his own unique style. Juvenile is the star of course, the one who shines above all: His crisp delivery, hint of humour, and passionate truthfulness in his words have always made him a standout in a world filled with lackluster rappers. B.G. has got a darker, more gangsta oriented style, while rapping real calm and grimmy (almost with no emotions whatsoever). Lil' Wayne is a young teenager on this one, but his talent can't be ignored, especially on his first ever solo song "Block Burner" : his rap skills still unpolished and his voice is still kinda quite on this album, but the charisma and creative delivery are already there. Turk also impresses with his thugged out rhymes and overall mic presence. So, as you see all of the Hot Boys do a great job, even though some of them (Lil' Wayne and Turk) were just getting started (Juve and BG already had a few albums under their belts). And as usual, it was Mannie Fresh's awesome beats that stood up! There are 13 songs (+ 2 totally useless skits) on this album, and the production on them is flawless. Some of the beats are laid-back, some are harder, and some have a darker feeling to them (especially Lil' Wayne and BG's solo songs). Lyrically the boys don't dissapoint as well. To those ignorant so called "hip-hop fans" thinking CMR is only about flossing, you couldn't be more mistaken - the Hot Boys's rapping is all about gangsta rap, living in the streets, hustlin'. There are a few songs, that have a social and deep message as well. There are no "party-style" songs, and no songs about sex, big behinds or whatever. CMR is all about the streets on this one, they're hard-core to the fullest. Out of the 12 songs (+ 2 skits and a Big Tymers intro), you get a great solo song from each member, and the other 8 are all group efforts. B.G is missing on a few songs, since he had some drug problems at that time, but his presence is well-felt on the songs he's on. "Get It How You Live!" is one of CMR's best early releases, and the one that got the label that huge destribution deal with Universal Records. The album was released a year before "Back that a** up" and couple of years before "Bling Bling", and overall the album is just as good as the albums those huge singles were on. And to think that things only got better from that point on... The rappers' style improved and matured and even Mannie Fresh's beats got on an even higher level!... Bottom line is - this one is a classic, you should not miss it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Platinum Hit, August 25, 2001

Mr. Cash Money (New Orleans, Louisiana) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Get It How U Live !! [PA] [EXPLICIT LYRICS] (Audio CD)
This album is one of the best albums cash money has put out. With the 4 rappers that include Juvenile, Lil Wayne, B.G., and Turk. They sure do know how to lay down lyrics. "Get It How U Live" contains one of the best songs ever put out in Cash Money. "50 shots gonna set it off" is another big hit by this group of young artist. And Lil Wayne's 1st ever single hit "Block Burner" is definetly going to have the block blazin for a while. I think this debut album is one of the best debut albums ever!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Cash Money Classic Fa sho!, June 27, 2003
By
Dwayne (Detroit, Michigan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Get It How U Live !! [PA] [EXPLICIT LYRICS] (Audio CD)
I'm a huge Cash Money fan. I've been down with them since jump. Not only that, but I'm one of the few people who realize that Cash Money talks about more things then just money, cars, and women. I have every single Cash Money CD that has ever come out and 99% of the songs are about head bussin. So I don't know why people say that about Cash Money. They must only listen to the radio joints instead of the underground stuff they put out.

Now on to this CD. First of all I want to point out that this CD is a classic. Mannie Fresh's production is top notch on this CD. B.G. only appears on 8 tracks because he was in rehab during this time for drug use. But the CD still did well even though he wasn't included. Here's what I thought of each song.

1: Intro: This is just the Big Tymers talking. They drop some rhymes but as usual, they don't have much to say.

2: We on Fire: I love the beat Mannie has concocted. However, I'm not feeling Turk and Juvenile on the hook, but its still a good song. BG is not included on this song, and that really pisses me off, b/c he's not only my fav. cmm, but also one of my favorite rappers. 9/10

3: 50 Shots: This song is off the hook. This is an instant classic. We have Mannie Fresh on the Chorus here, and Mannie drops a hard beat I must say. As for who rips the best verse, its a tossup between Juve and Turk. 9/10

4: On Tha Porch: Skip.

5: Block Burner: (Lil Wayne) Aw man, this track is hot. Lil Wayne was spittin str8 fiya here. Tha beat is a lil creepy, but its still ill. 9/10

6: Neighborhood Superstar: The beat is off the hook on this CD. Mannie Fresh creates a nice smooth beat. Baby, Fresh, Juve and Weezy all rip nice verses, but I gotta give the award to Fresh for the best verse. 10/10

7: Take it Off Your Shoulder: Aw man, this is not only one of the best songs off the album, but one of the best songs Juve will ever do in his entire life. Excellent beat buy M. Fresh. 10/10

8: Dirty World: Finally, my dawg BG is back on track with us. Thank God man. Nice beat by Fresh. Real smooth. I agree with alot of what the boys said. Especially what Juve said, "President Clinton don't give a _ what how a ni99a feel. Fa sho, tell em Juve. 10/10

9: I'm a Hot Boy (BG): Aw man, here we go. My Dawg BG rips it down. Mannie creates a nice funky beat, and BG just rips it. We got Juve on da hook. My dawg BGEEZY off da heezy fa sheezy. Its a shame he had to leave Cash Money. But his "Living Legend" CD is off the hook, so thats ok. 10/10

10: Get it How U Live: Here's another hot track. This is the title track and it delivers a good message. Make something happen, ya feel me. Watch what you do in life. You'll catch on to the message when you listen to it. 10/10

11: Skit. But this is pretty funny, so I'll give em props.

12: I'm Com'n: My dawg BGEEZy fa sheezy sets it off and then Lil Wayne gets his chance to rip it. I think Geezy and Bun ripped the best verses. Bun B is one of the best rappers in da game. No doubt about that. His flow is just off the chain. I like the horns on this song. The guitar was ill too. Once again Mannie Fresh did his thang. BG, Wayne and Bun rip the best verses if u ask me. 10/10.

13: Infared Dot: (Turk) This song is so ill. I don't believe Cash Money only put out one solo CD from Lil Turk. Its a shame how he got played like that, b/c da boy could flow back in da day. We got Juve on da hook, and Mannie Fresh delivers another hot beat. My favorite line is: In that 3, we got tools that'll bruise when we spit/ playin wit 50 so ain't no way we gonna miss/ 10/10. I gotta give Turk props on his punchlines too. He worked in alot of good punchlines in this song.

14: Blood Thicker: One of the best songs on the whole entire CD. My dawg BG isn't featured but thats iight. We got my girl Magnolia Shorty holdin it down fa rizeal and she delivers a nice verse. Fresh is killin dis CD with his production. Its a tossup between who rips the best verse. Everyone rips a good verse except for that ugly fool Baby who cheated my dawg BGezzy out of his money. Baby needs to stop rapping. He's wack. And the birdman thang ain't happening either. 10/10

15: Spit 'N Game: This is off Juve's Solja Rags, but its still a tight song. BG rips this one up period. Bullet Proof is on this track as well. For those of u that don't know who Bullet Proof is, he was once a member of the Hot Boys, but he got dropped. He sounds alot like Turk, but he's alot quicker on da mic.

Overall analysis: This CD is a classic and is a must for any true Cash Money fan. And when I say the word "True", I mean somebody who knows what Cash Money is talking about, instead of thinking all they talk about it Women, fast cars and money. They're more than that. Well, at least back in the day they were. But hey, I'm still down with Cash Money no matter what. Thats fa real too.

Overall grade: 20/20.

Holla.

5.0 out of 5 stars Getting It How U Live, June 15, 2007
This review is from: Get It How U Live !! [PA] [EXPLICIT LYRICS] (Audio CD)
There was a time when Cash Money had good albums from the artists on their roster and Hot Boys' Get It How U Live is one of them. Juvenile, Lil Wayne B.G. and Turk bring their unique styles of rapping to the table over Mannie Fresh(whose beats didnt sound as redundant then as they do now)production. This album has its vintage Hot Boys tracks like We On Fire, 50 Shots, Dirty World, Get It How U Live, Blood Thicker and Spit 'N Game. The Hot Boys also have their solo joints like Lil Wayne's Block Burner, Juvenile's Take It Off Your Shoulder, B.G,s I'm A Hot Boy and Turk's Infrared Dot. Also Bun B makes a guest appearance on I'm Com'n. Skip Material: B.G's I'm A Hot Boy and the On Tha Porch(part2)skit. Bottom Line: Hot Boys Get It How U Live is The Hot Boys best album before they got lazy and commercial. Unlike Guerrilla Warfare this album didnt have to grow on me. Standout Tracks: WE ON FIRE, 50 SHOTS SET'S IT OFF, BLOCK BURNER, NEIGHBORHOOD SUPERSTAR, DIRTY WORLD, GET IT HOW U LIVE, INFRARED DOT, BLOOD THCKER and SPIT 'N GAME
