From the Author

Once you have used my book and worked through the 25 steps, I hope that you will be well on your way to getting and living the life you love. If so, then I will have achieved my purpose in writing it, as my mission is to make a difference in the world and to improve the life of everyone with whom I come into contact.

I believe in the power of contribution, connection and celebration and my vision is to build a better world bit by bit, and to help others build their own lives, step by step.

My personal vision for the world is that one day generations of children to come will ask their parents if something called "war" ever existed. They will wonder if people really did destroy each other in cold blood, and how humans ever let that happen in the first place.

They will also ask if children really died due to a lack of food.

I believe that it is such a vision that we must ultimately strive for as today we have a world challenged by growing world population, increasing warfare and mounting environmental problems.

You may call me naive, but to live with such hope is for me the only way forward, since "an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind". It was Gandhi who said this and in the world today, I believe that his words, wisdom and inspiration are needed more than ever.

As a child, I remember listening to a speech by a famous politician on radio, he was saying that in another decade, world poverty would be history and no child will ever go to sleep on an empty stomach.

Those words excited me then, made me all tingly and lit me up, and continue to inspire me now. We lived in Kenya at the time and just the thought of all African children no longer starving was very empowering.

Even then I was aware of the vast disparity in wealth and well-being between the African people, the Asians and the Europeans, the latter two owning most of the businesses.

Yet thirty years since I heard that speech, world poverty is more endemic than ever and at least 20,000 children die every day of starvation.

In my work I engage with a lot of children from all types of cultural and social backgrounds. I often wonder just what sort of legacy we are building for them.

Children's apparent innocence about the world out there can be heart breaking as well as endearing. But it is this very innocence that gives me hope and inspires me that we can indeed build a better world for them.

It is our responsibility and we owe it to future generations. We can choose how we will live our lives from here on. We can indeed make this a better world for all of us and the generations to come if we really put our minds and hearts to it.

So as you work through this book, I invite each of you to aspire to get the life you love and one that will also make a huge difference to others. Commit to making the world a better place in whatever way feels right for you - small or big. And then of course do it.

As Gandhi also said, be the change that you want the world to be. Bring peace and love into the world in every way you can but begin with yourself.

In July 2005, around the time of the Live8 concerts, there were posters of Nelson Mandela plastered all around London promoting the "Make Poverty History" campaign. The slogan on these posters implored a generation to claim its greatness - and I feel that the time has indeed come for us to claim our greatness.

And one day, a generation of children to come will indeed ask their parents if war and starvation ever even existed.

Please know that by working through this book, by getting the life you love and ultimately living it, you will have helped me greatly in reaching out for my vision of the world. Thank you.

To end, here are my final thoughts:-

Remember that your life counts - and make it count. You are unique.

There is no one like you on this planet. Never has been and never will be.

Do not sell your self short. Do not sell the world short.

This is your life - love it, live it. One life, one chance - grab it.

Get the life you love - and live it.

I have read many self-help books and listened to many CD's on how to improve one's life and they have all helped a little but never taking me to my desired goal. I have spent a lifetime looking for a plan or program that would change my life. Finally I have found one that is easy to follow and can be implemented by anyone in their busy life. Arvind's book outlines in great detail the steps that one must take to create the life you desire. The steps are clear and easy to incorporate into one's lifestyle. There is one drawback, "You must do the work", you are the only one that can change your life. When you read Arvind's book "Get the Life you Love and Live It", you actually feel as if Arvind is coaching you and guiding you along to live the life that you desire. Arvind will give you the courage to pursue your dreams.

I did not expect to find too much new stuff in this book; I read and work on my own personal development every day. I own a popular personal development blog at Prolific Living, and I make it my business to be the best person I can be. So reading "Get the Life You Love (and Live it)" seemed fun and yet, I was surprised, not only at the honestly of the author, Arvind Devalia, but also at the additional perspectives he adds. Thank you Arvind for opening my eyes and making me feel more humble about where I am on my path. Thank you especially for the chapters on cleaning the clutter from your life - I choose this to be more the clutter from my mind, my house is spotless ; - and also appreciate the abundance and keeping my cool when things go wrong. It was just a really good read and pulled me together and helped me smooth my own rough edges. I highly recommend it.

I'm a retired consultant and coach. In my work, I helped people set goals and work through the process of reaching them. If you want to make changes in your life and are wondering where to start, this book can help. It guides the reader through the steps of a self-coaching process and provides a workbook for doing the exercises recommended. All steps of the coaching process (such as clarifying your values and setting goals) are covered. If you invest the time and energy to do the recommended exercises, the result will be greater clarity and a stronger sense of purpose.

"Get the Life You Love and Live It" is sweet and practical. I find it very comforting to read and do the exercises. I was feeling down a few days ago and decided to sit for an hour and do some writing and picked the book off my bed side table and did a few chapters. My favorite phrase from the book? An attitude of gratitude! Gotta love it! Thank you Arvind.
