Best birthday party ever,
By Paul Room "Rapping Parent" (Walnut Creek, CA) - See all my reviews

My wife and I recently had a birthday party for our 13 year old son. Among the gifts he received was a copy of "Get on Da Mic". At first we didn't know what to think and were concerned about the rap content being offensive etc. you can't be too careful these days. Once my wife and I checked it out the kids had a chance to play the game and the entire party spent the next three hours completely entertained and laughing hysterically. What a fantastic concept. I strongly recommend it to anyone who wants a more modern version of traditional Karaoke. Thank you for this great product.

A Rappin' Great Time - Party Game,
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Get On Da Mic with Microphone (Video Game)
Just had to pick this up when I saw the song list...it's got All the heavies, Dre, Tupac, Biggie, Snoop, Missy, on and on. The game did a decent job of scoring your performance, while it can't figure out which word you're saying (neither can Karaoke Rev.) it can tell if you're rapping in the right place. Apparently you can cheat by mumbling or rubbing the mike with your hand, but if that's your thing then maybe this game isn't for you. If you DO WANT TO RAP though, this game shines in Party Mode. There's nothing better than gettin your gangsta style on with your friends watching, and it's even better to laugh at your friends doing the same. We had a room full of people with all different ages, kids to young parents, and everyone knew at least one song....Great time.

KARAOKE LOVE FOR THE HIP HOP FANS,
By Media Guru "Peace & Love" (Daytona Beach, FL) - See all my reviews

GET ON DA MIC is the first pure rap karaoke game especially one that features unbelieveable music from some of today's hottest artists. You get hits like "Hypnotize (Notorious B.I.G.)", "Beautiful (Snoop Dogg)", "The Jump Off (Lil Kim & Mr. Cheeks)", "Hey Mama (Black Eyed Peas)", and "Jesus Walks" (Kanye West)" just to name a few. MTV host Sway is featured. The most positive aspects of the game: an excellent selection of hip hop songs; the fame dynamic gives you more reason to play; and there are lots of freestyle tracks (yes you can create your own rhymes)! Multiple highly unique levels of play take you through all aspects of a hip hop superstars career. You are able to do performances, get on mix tapes, get signed to record contracts and even go on tour. All the while you earn money than you can spend on everything; new outfits, jewelry and even a personal helicopter. There are multiple difficulty levels, interactive crowds and multiple customizable characters. THIS GAME WILL BE A HIT for karaoke fans as well as hip hop fans! THIS IS A MUST HAVE!

DISAPPOINTING,

This game is garbage. I can't believe I thought it would actually be good and I bought it, but that's just my own stupidity. Half the songs on here could be replaced by much better, classic rap songs. The game is terrible at judging the words you say and even if you're on beat or not. Maybe it's more fun and better to the average music listener, but you'd think in order to make a game like this, they would have gotten real rap experts' input. Another thing, WAY too easy. I beat it in 2 hours, and there's not much more you can do after you beat the game in career mode. LET DOWNNNNN

too many faults,
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Get On Da Mic with Microphone (Video Game)
Get On Da Mic is the hip-hop version of Karaoke Revolution, just with too many faults. When I first rented the game, I thought it would be an excellent game, fulfilling the dreams of upcoming rap stars. However, as I progressed, I learnt that the game is too short and there are not enough songs to choose from.
Don't get me wrong, I respect Eidos for finallly bringing out a game where you can rap to a beat but there are just too many faults to give this game a 4 star rating. Get On Da Mic judges your performance by how well you can fit your rapping to the recorded raps. However, all the songs on this game are rerecorded, meaning that some are slightly different from the original version. To top that up, you wouldn't even be able to perform either hooks or choruses in some songs, which sometimes is the best part of the song (X Gon Give it to Ya). Since some songs contain explicit lyrics, Eidos censored the explicit content and expect you to say it. If this is so, why blur it out in the first place? This game didn't have to get a "T" Rating. Another funny thing is that you don't actually have to say the words, you can just mumble jumble or do whatever and you'll still get the line right. The game is broken down into several modes- career, which is where your 8 Mile journey begins in front of a mirror to a world tour, exhibition, where you can pick any song and rap, practice, same as exhibition but no score meter and freestyle, where you can bust your own freestyle out to a beat. Multiplayer is the same but with 2 players and the game allows you to use an EyeToy, so instead of using the game's background, you can see yourself rap. The graphics are too great and there's no real point buying things like cars, jets, bikes, houses, stereos etc. as there's no use of it in the game. So basically, you're only earning money to buy clothes, that's about all. But not even the bling-bling is going to get you anywhere, it's not like your going to get your dream girl. Overall, Get On Da Mic is a bit of a disappointment, though it can be fun just to muck around. I feel much more could be done to this game like not using other rejected American Idol singers to sing the songs as they are absolute crap at it. Its a 3 star for getting the upcoming rap stars (or whoever thinks they're gonna be big) off the back seat Karaoke Revolution left them on.

The idea of rapping along with famous people appealed to me since I first heard of this game. Now that I've bought it I'm feeling buyer's remorse to the max. I like rap as much as the next guy, but after 2 and a half hours I have seen everything this game has to offer. The microphone can't actually understand the words you're saying, and you can actually get higher scores by mumbling than by actually learning the song. THIS DEFEATS THE ENTIRE PURPOSE OF THE GAME. The game also advertises that you can buy cars, a mansion, a helicopter and a yacht. These have no bearing on the gameplay, but are merely tiny still pictures that appear behind your character on the character select screen. There are 40 songs and here's the list:
Get Busy, Ante Up (Remix), Get By, Baby Got Back, Beware of the Boyz, Dude, Ma I Don't Love Her, The Jump Off, Posse On Broadway, Hey Mama, Tipsy, Get Ur Freak On, Rappers Delight, Wit Dre Day, Pass That Dutch, Humpty Dance, California Love Remix, Beautiful, The Next Episode, Work It, Gin and Juice, What Da Hook Gon Be, Through the Wire, X Gon Give It To Ya, Ruff Ryder Anthem, Still Ballin', Naggin, Dear Mama, Pump It Up, Push It,Express Yourself, Game Over, Nothing But A G Thang, Rubber Band Man, Crank It Up, Fix Up, Hypnotize, Jesus Walks, Whoa and Don't Believe the Hype (appropriate, because this game stinks!) Don't bother learning any of them since you can mumble your way through and still get a "Blazin'" rating. (...)
