Finished it but didn't really feel it...,
By
This review is from: Get Money Chicks (Paperback)
... I was going to say that "I really didn't like it" but that wouldn't be entirely true. This did seem like a "beware or this could be you" type story. The 3 women in this book were a little over-the-top for me with thier antics and gold diggin' but I guess that was supposed to be part of the draw for this book.
Anna J. is a very good writer but I didn't feel her on this one. It jumped around a little too much and that, for me, really slows the story down. It did pick up at the end and I can see a sequel on the way. Don't think I'll read it though. She did put a teaser of her next book at the end and I think I will be getting that one. From the few pages that were there it seems that Anna is doing what she does best... sex and drama, drama and sex. This book should not be the first book for people just reading Anna for the first time. Start out with 'My Woman, His Wife' and you'll see why I have reservations about this one.

Dolla Bills, Y'all,
By Allison Hobbs, Author of A Bona Fide Gold Digger (Philadelphia, PA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Get Money Chicks (Paperback)
In this fast-paced urban adventure, Karen, Mina, and Shanna are strictly about getting money--from drug dealers or any man whom they can lure into the bedroom. All this immoral behavior is done so they can go on shopping sprees and buy fly gear at the local malls. The girls are supposed to be the best of friends yet they are so devious, they have no problem lying, cheating, and creeping with each other's men. All for the love of making fast money.
The girls get in over their head when Mina starts making drug runs and Shanna decides to pay back her dealer boyfriend for cheating on her. But as the song goes, she ain't have to get him back like that. Big trouble ensues. After several murders, friendships are tested and each young woman has to face up to the choices she's made. Toward the end of the book, Shanna finds herself in a hell of a predicament--she's in bed with a sinister drug dealer and his vicious pit bull. The scene was both scary and hilarious. I was rolling with laughter. I couldn't help it. Anna J. can be funny as hell when she wants to be. I love Ms. Anna J's writing style. This is a different genre for her and she nailed it. The street jargon she used, is straight southwest Philly. I knew Get Money Chicks was gonna be hittin' for somethin', but I wasn't expecting to get emotionally caught up in the game! Another big winner, for Anna J.

It's all about the money,
By Love me some books "Jounay" (New Orleans, LA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Get Money Chicks (Paperback)
In the book we are introduced to three girls and they are all best friends. First there is Shana, who is strictly about the dollar, then we meet Mina, who after a bad experience decides this is not the life for her, finally, there is Karen, whose family is well off and has no need to do the things she does. All of these women come from different backgrounds and they all have one thing in common, the love of money.
People say money is the root to evil and that is definitely true with these friends. Anna J gave us something totally different from her previous books and it did not disappoint. My only regret is Anna J said she will not be doing a sequel and that is disappointing. I would recommend this book to any young woman who thinks that have a baller is the way to go. Run to the nearest bookstore and purchase this book, you will not be disappointed.

"Get Money Chicks" was a good read. Karen, Mina and Shanna are 3 young women out to make some serious cash. Only problem is, they don't wanna earn it the traditional way. They are sleeping, and even drugging and robbing men to get cash to support there expensive over the top spending habits.
There is also a lot of scandoulous sex, murders, brothers ballin' out of control and secrets in the pages of this book. See if these three ladies love of cash will be there downfall, or will they make it out of the projects?

Karen, Mina, and Shanna are self proclaimed get money chicks living large in the Philly projects, but things are never really what they seem with these three. For one, these best friends seem more like secret enemies several times throughout this novel. They talk trash behind each other's backs, lie habitually, and sleep with each other's men. I thought they would completely turn their back on one another at any given moment. I honestly don't see why they became and remain friends when Mina and Shanna didn't like Karen from the beginning. It isn't like they need each other to get money so I wonder why they tolerate each other.
Karen comes from a very wealthy family and there is never a clear indication as to why she chooses to live this dirty dangerous life. She is the stand out of the group not entirely due to her being Caucasian but because she has a surprisingly curvy body and exudes class that the other two lack. Not only does she move herself into the projects from her posh neighborhood, she also sleeps with wealthy men for a quick buck, and secretly helps run a growing drug cartel. Her dying father declares in his will that all of his businesses will be left solely to her and not her racist mother if only she obtains a business degree which she isn't far from receiving. This alone leaves the reader confused and not able to understand why she is out there needlessly getting her hands dirty while putting her reputation, health, future, and freedom on the line when money was not, is not, and will never be an issue for her. Mina is undoubtedly the sexiest of the bunch but definitely not the smartest. Early on in the novel she faces a tragic life shattering scenario that leaves her shaken when she finds out that the blunt she laced with embalming fluid caused someone's death. After that it seems she wants to change the life she is living and get on the straight and narrow but that doesn't last for long. She obviously doesn't learn much from her mistakes because she is back to her old tricks in no time flat. Addicted to money, she foolishly agrees to be a drug mule regardless of the possible consequences. I had high hopes for Mina since she is the only one with a legitimate job, a 9 to 5 at that, but she continually disappointed me. Shanna is the dumbest but the only one who doesn't lie to her best friends. She is sleeping with just as many random men as her counterparts but Chilae is the main man sponsoring her lifestyle. When he pisses her off she ignorantly plans to sleep with his arch enemy for revenge. Her friends warn her against it but she naively dives head first into her plans and into trouble. Her actions open up a can of worms that she was in no way ready for and her before she knows it her choices come back on her and others in shocking methods she would have never expected. This novel was interesting but I feel it had a very weak plot. Nothing seemed cohesive and the story lines went in circles and didn't add up in many instances. Towards the end the climax finally emerged and quickly disappeared. Very disappointing to say the least. It was also highly confusing when there was a secret yet somehow the other characters slyly knew about it somehow. Occurrences like so were not always clearly explained to the reader. I also don't understand why Chilae had his own chapters when the main focus of this book was supposed to be about the get money chicks. Lastly, not only was the conclusion of this novel very open ended but there are questions from throughout the book that never got answered, and circumstances that never got followed up on. Again, disappointing.

A Ok Read,
By Lesa Jones E.J "~~Lesa!~~" (Milwaukee, WI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Get Money Chicks (Paperback)
A ok read here.
It was a little slow in the middle but, then it started moving along at the end mainy the last 6 chapters or so of it. Shanna, Mina and Karen is women that are all to get money anyway they can. They start off by sleeping with me but, mainly getting them so high that they men go to sleep and they take they money. Well Mina was getting greedy with her money and it cause Shanna and Karen not to trust her. Shanna was involved with this drug-dealer name Chilae. But, then Karen and Mina also sleeping with him as well. Mina started transporting drugs for Chilae. But, soon you find out taht Chilae isn't the head leader of this drug business that he got going on. Shanna started dealing with this other drug dealer name Jarrell that is enemies with Chilae. She was supposed to get information about Jarrell for Chilae but, Shanna didn't want no part of that. The ended was blown away. Anna J did somewhat ok with this book. It was a lot of repeating of conversary and that I didn't like. I would like to read more about Jarrell I think he would make a great character in a book by himself. But, a ok read by Anna J

This book started off fast paced and very good,But as the story went on it started dragging and didnt hold my attention like I thought it would..I agree with some of the other reviewers about the 3 main female characters..They were just plain dumb..And Karen came from money and was loaded..So I didnt even see her point in the positions she played.Overall this was a decent read but wasnt a shocker!!
