Biography

As a DJ, Andy Carthy aka Mr. Scruff plays across the board, flitting between soul, funk, hip hop, jazz, reggae, latin, african, ska, disco, house, funk, breaks, soundtracks and loads more. As a producer he makes music that draws on these influences, with a large dose of cheek and good humour. His cartoon drawings illustrate gig flyers, record sleeves and CD covers, and usually accompany him at ... Read more in Amazon's Mr. Scruff Store

Excellent jazz/dance tune: blends styles and crosses genres while maintaining the cool of lounge jazz and 'hip' verve of a fashionable club or `in the know' venue. Mr. Scruff is the "Moby" of modern jazz (in the most complimentary way).

The single is excellent, but I might suggest purchasing the full "Keep it Unreal" album that spawned it.

I first heard this song in the new Volvo T70 commercial and was lucky enough to figure out who was behind it. Awesome funky tune.

Right here on Amazon.com, if you look up Moondog, you are cross-referred to Mr. Scruff. And vice versa. Which is interesting because:
When I first heard the melody in use in 2002 for Lincoln Town Car TV commercials, I recognized the melody (at least I think I did) as "Bird's Lament," a Moondog melody originally reocrded by him in the late '60s for Columbia, now on the CD Moondog, also on Columbia, and rerecorded by him on Atlantic a few years ago as "sax pax for a sax."
Moondog was blind, died a few years ago. The Mr. Scruff single CD does not credit Moondog (Louis Hardin) for the tune so is it a coincidence as with George Harrison and "My Sweet Lord"/"He's so Fine"? It seems to credit someone named Carthy. So I dunno. I'd love to hear more about this. Maybe it's a puzzle meant to be solved.

Keep it on... I heard it one beautiful evening, eating in a restaurant on the Seine in West Paris. The waitress holding a giant birthday cake made of sweets, bumped around the enormous rooms. On the mezzanine above the restaurant, the DJ was spinning the birthday tune which got the whole room buzzing, the single spot light waltzing through the room kept the heads turning.... "Keep it on" the tune that's got Paris by the Scruff of its neck rocked the audience... GO and GET IT is my simple advice....

"Jazz with a funky beat and get rythem." This only begins to describe this phenomenal song. With a style all his own, he is so good and different from everything you've heard that he isn't very well known.... YET. This is no excuse for this Dj gensis' skills of making the greatest Acid Jazz in the world. This song is obviously the greatest Acid Jazz song out there and I believe every one in the world should get a chance to hear it. This song should be praised for generations for its excelence and will undoubtinly become priceless within a few years!
