original recording remastered ?...but with release date 10/25/90 ?,
By
This review is from: Get Nervous (Audio CD)
Why does this listing of Get Nervous say original recording remastered when the release date still says October 25, 1990 ? There must be a misprint here - either the title should not say remastered or the album specs should be updated for the correct release date, etc.. I just purchased In the Heat of the Night, Crimes of Passion and Precious Time (finally as individually remastered albums) and the release date was April of 2006 for each of them; therefore, I would believe that if Get Nervous is TRULY REMASTERED then the release date should say April of 2006. Does anyone know anything about this ?

Lyrical and Vocal Excellence,

This is another great rock'n one from Pat's 80's archive. Although the radio friendly Shadows of the Night and Little Too Late satisfy the pop seeking audience, the highlights here are the ones which were never released as singles and just happen to be written by Pat and her hubby Neil Geraldo.
On this album, which followed Crimes of Passion and Precious Time, she continued to belt out hits about the trauma, heartache and passion of looking for and falling in and out of love. Pat's vocal range and integrity remain at its best throughout this project. "Fight It Out" has some awesome lyrics which Pat belts out in the most passionate and articulate way. Her operatic background peeks out on this somewhat angry ballad as she hits some of her higher notes while Neil shows off his excellence on guitar. Pat's articulate, passionate and highly energetic vocals continue on "The Victim", I'll Do It" and "I Want Out" and "Tell It to her". The angry love theme also continues throughout the lyrics of these great songs. Those looking for Pat's mellower sounds of peace, tranquility and contentment will have to look later in her catalog. Expect to rock with this one!

A Pat's devoted fan,

I am a Pat Benatar's long time fan and since I first listen to this record in 1982 it became one of my favorites. I just have bought the CD and I felt like I was back in my teens. Pat's voice is so powerful and heartfelt which makes you really feel her music. In Get Nervous Pat Benatar shows a great maturity, her voice sounds better than ever and all the tracks are excellent! "Shadows of the Night", "Looking for a Stranger", "Fight it out" (Terrific!"!), "I'll Do It" and "I Want out" just to name some, are AWESOME tracks. If you are eager to listen to a great female rock singer, this is the chance!

As far as I can tell 'Get Nervous' has never been issued in a remastered format. Certainly the one listed here IS NOT A REMASTERED VERSION. GET WITH IT AMAZON. How about a little truth in advertising?????? It is a great album but this is the original 1984 release.

Is there such a thing as a bad Benatar CD? Of course not, and this is one of her best recordings overall. Love it! But it is not remastered as the Amazon ad states which is why I give 4 stars instead of 5. C'mon Amazon, it is easy to tell from the product if it is remastered or not, all of the Benatar CDs that are remastered state so clearly on the CD case. It is not hard to get that one right. But anyway, still an excellent disc.
Since there is only this version of Get Nervous, you might as well add it to your collection if you do not have it already until hopefully a remastered version does come out. That is what I am doing. As a remastered version comes out of any, I am replacing the originals - unless the remaster is not as good. You need to watch that because some of the re-issued ones are not so great (double CD in One versions - not so great remastering on some songs and some songs are variant version on these). Get Nervous - a gotta have in your Benatar library - a great CD from the best female rocker of all time in my opinion.

No reason to get nervous about those shadows of the night,

In 1982 Pat Benatar released "Get Nervous," ending the first chapter in her career (right before she really hit the big time). This might be the weakest of those first four albums but it is still pretty good. Note that Neil Geraldo is co-writing half the songs on her album and is about to hit his own stride when it comes to writing for his wife's voice. Ironically, the best single from this album, "Shadows of the Night," is written by somebody else, but that just makes it the exception that proves the rule.
The other thing you will notice is that the production values have improved greatly from their debut effort. This is also one of the few albums where the hit single actually ends up being the best track as well. "Shadows of the Night" made it to #13 on the Billboard chart and won Benatar the Grammy for Best Female Rock Performance. The other singles released from this one were "Little Too Late" (#20) and "Looking for a Stranger" (#39). But I point to "Anxiety (Get Nervous)" as proof that Geraldo was really learning how to write for Benatar's voice. For the rest of that decade Benatar would be one of the dominant female rock vocalists. What became key here was Benatar's insistence of actually singing songs with melodies rather than just screaming rock 'n' roll that ultimately cost her part of her fan base but ended up producing what I think are her best songs. Still, with the likes of "Silent Partner" there is still plenty of rockin' going on at this point, and you can add the lyrical imagery of songs such as "Fight It Out" and "The Victim" into the mix as well. Even if "Looking for a Stranger" is relatively low key, there is still plenty of intensity here. Plus, the cover photo is good for a laugh.

A VERY 80's sounding CD,
By
This review is from: Get Nervous (Audio CD)
This was an overlooked CD considering that the previous effort "Precious Time" went to #1 and was not even close to being as good as this. "The victim" is Spider Geraldo at his best with a great guitar riff, Little to late is as well a crafted pop song as you can get (Ms Simpson and Ms Spears etc etc, wish they could sing this as good as Pat). Shadows of the night is a resounding mixture of synth, drums, guitar and soaring vocals. Looking for a stranger and the awesome Get Nervous are "new wavy" sounding that they excelled at on their first release. Very good CD.

"I need more than your bedside manner",

"Get Nervous" is Pat Benatar at her best. While her first two albums always get more attention from critics and fans, this album is often overlooked for its quality and timelessness. This album was made after she got married to her long time guitarist Neil. And it shows the energy they picked up from each other after making a personal commitment to each other. They made this album more for themselves instead for the public. I think every track is exceptional, and it is hard to pick my five favorites off of "Get Nervous". But I will hit it with my best shot. Sorry, I know bad joke. My five favorites off of "Get Nervous are as follows: 1)"I'll Do It". This song starts with a bang and doesn't let up. The combination of drums with bass and keyboards is incredible, and Pat's singing is at her best. A song way before it's time. 2)"Fight It Out". An intense song lyrically and musically. The song starts with a pretty piano piece and a wicked guitar lick and builds to one of the prettiest and most powerful choruses' I have heard. This song also shows Pats great vocal control. She hits so many ranges so effortlessly, you lose count. 3)"Tell It To Her". A song about confronting a lover with knowledge of secret affairs, with lyrics and music that expertly play up the hurt feelings of betrayal being conveyed by Pat. 4)"I Want Out". Another song to express revenge on a lover who hurt once too often. I love it. 5)"Shadows of the Night". The big hit off the album still sounds as good as it did when it came out. Pat has always amazed me at her expert songwriting. While the music rocks all around her, she is singing about intense issues like child abuse and spousal abuse and adultry. And also her husband Neil knew that Pat's strength was her voice and decided not to smother it with music. They not only made a great marriage for themselves they also made a great marriage with talent in this album for their fans.

Pat was on a roll with this, her 4th album. Brilliant album cover aside, this CD lets you know just how brilliant Pat was & how she catered for AOR audiences in the early 80s better than most. Containing the Grammy smash Shadows of The Night, it alone makes the album worthwhile. Other gems are The Victim which races along like a racehorse, Little Too Late which is very pop sounding & Silent Partner which demonstrates the tender side of Benatar's voice - much moreso than the aggressive ballad Fight It Out - the only real weakness on the album. The album is consistent in sound & quality of song-writing. What is guaranteed was continued attention to Pat form her audiences & more grammy nominations. She's a legend & she rocks. Play it loud!!!
