As a new business owner, the thought of marketing or asking for referrals is intimidating. I purhcased this book in hope of learning tips and tricks to market my business without feeling like a used car salesman. That is exactly what I got! I've applied just a few of the techniques taught in the book and I have had my business double in a month and four new clients...

The topic of Get Noticed...Get Referrals is networking. With that as its focus, if failed to deliver. It doesn't stay on the topic of networking but touches on many aspects of being in business. Since it doesn't stay on topic, it doesn't dive deep into anything that it covers.

The topic of Get Noticed...Get Referrals is networking. With that as its focus, if failed to deliver. It doesn't stay on the topic of networking but touches on many aspects of being in business. Since it doesn't stay on topic, it doesn't dive deep into anything that it covers.

After reading the first chapter, I became frustrated. Each paragraph seemed like notes for the book. Instead of expanding on the topic sentence, the supporting sentences were more like other topic sentences. There was no meat to the paragraphs.

I skimmed the rest of the book to see if there was anything of substance and didn't find anything. That's when I noticed that it didn't stay on the topic of networking, but veered off into other aspects of running a business, also without any depth.

Instead of this book, I recommend getting Endless Referrals, Third Edition by Bob Burg. He stays on the topic of networking and dives deep into the subject. This is a much better read than Get Noticed...Get Referrals.

Here is a synopsis of what this books says, "Blah, blah, blah".

I am angered that I paid money for this book. After reading 75% of it I realized that it was never going to give any real advice. I should have realized that it was going to be a non-starter back at the beginning when every person she quoted in her book was someone who is in the business of telling other people how to run their businesses rather than someone who was actually out there running a business.

Another frustrating aspect of the book is that what little advice it does have is geared for business-to-business relationships (don't get your hopes up, it's not useable advice) and it does not translate to a business where you are dealing directly with the consumer.

I think Ms. Lublin must have knocked this out in a weekend. I certainly would never do business with her after reading this book because she has already treated me poorly by offering "a proven program to win more clients, connections and referrals" and not delivering on that promise. The only "program" you could point to in the book is the Power Referral Program, and it is not even her program, not to mention that it fills up a wholtwo e pages of the book, so again, don't get your hopes up.

Basically, this is me NOT referring you to Jill Lublin.

This book is likely going to be helpful to someone who just does not know great service skills. Even better for someone with commonly poor follow through skills and a lack of personal accountability.
All-in-all, fairly basic. Most people (sales people) should already be doing this. Most of it is common sense, however, these things are not often applied to daily life--and they should be.

I have always been the person that stands/sits in the back and watches everyone else. Especially when in comes to business and business opportunities. Jill Lublin has encouraged me to start taking the steps needed to "Get Noticed...Get Referrals". Thankfully this was a very quick and easy read. I am the daughter of a fabulous mother who has successfully run a self-made business, raised a family, and followed her dream of teaching young people. From the example my mother has set and Jill Lublin's words, I have been inspired and been given the confidence that I need to "build on my passions".

5.0 out of 5 stars A Holistic and Well Balanced Approach to Self-Marketing, December 18, 2009
Three weeks ago, I purchased "get noticed...get referrals" by Jill Lublin. Today, the book is underlined, dog-earred and its margins scrawled with notes. Although not a professional public relations practioner, as an investigative attorney, I have learned a thing or two during the past couple of decades about publicity and self promotion.
Although Ms. Lublin's book confirmed much of what I already had learned during those twenty or so years (which I wish that I could have learned previously, less expensively and as interestingly), it taught me, in a fascinating and extremely readable context, more than I ever expected to learn while browsing through the business book section.
Moreover, I am extremely impressed by Ms. Lublin's holistic and well balanced approach to networking, publicity, public relations and business in general and, above all, to living one's life as an ethical, creative and well rounded businessperson or professional.
I have always believed that one should have a passion for their work and for life generally, and Jill Lublin in "get noticed...get referrals" drives that point home, time and time again. My thanks to her for writing this book!

Ms. Lublin, in "get noticed...get referrals", describes and explains the steps and provides worksheets to personalize each step that is essential to uncork each individuals `genie in the bottle'. Once the `genie' is unleashed ...lookout world!!! Good stuff happens and the magic is in demand.

Reading Get Noticed...Get Referrals by Jill Lublin is like sitting down with a cup of coffee and picking her brain. Her conversational style of writing combined with her suggestions of specific activities makes the often-daunting prospect of networking seem more a matter of practicality than a talent that some people just naturally have. In today's society, many of us feel pressured to accomplish more and in doing so we often neglect the art of building relationships with others. Lublin uses simple outlines and lists to help even the most time-pressured devise strategies for making connections and deepening relationships. Her ideas are practical not only for networking professionals but for anyone who wants to do a better job of connecting with people.

This book is more then just a book! It is a complete HOW TO boost your business using PR, in a way that is fun and easy to follow. Jill Lublin is an expert at PR and she shows you how to do it right if you want to Get noticed!
