“In Get Off the Bench, Sid Fuchs pulls back the curtain on his secrets for building and sustaining a network that makes a difference.  This is the definitive book on the subject for anyone who wants to learn how to play from a master of the game.”     - Scott Eblin, author, The Next Level: What Insiders Know About Executive Success

“Sid gets it. He brings practical and valuable how to methods for creating and maintaining meaningful relationships. A sensible and concise must-read.”                             - JD Kathuria, founder and CEO of WashintonExec

“Sid’s charismatic style puts people at ease. In a clear, concise and personable manner, Sid describes why relationships are so important to each of us and how we can develop them without feeling like we have to work at it.”                               -- Stephen Mann, Managing Partner, Rock Creek Partners, LLC

I do not understand all the rave reviews for this book. It is a blatant self-promotion tool that doesn't offer a shred of practical management advice. The reader gets fantastic advice such as "Golf is good," "Networking is good," "What's important to you at the lower levels is not not important to me," followed by story after story of his amazing accomplishments. Mr Fuchs needs to reread rule #16 in his appendix B: "Self-promotion embarrasses those who do it. If you are a true success, people will know. You don't have to tell them." Ironic, isn't it?

Sid breaks the art/science of networking into precise steps outlining the technical components to what is largely regarded as an art. He brings science to a critical component of business success.

I enjoyed reading "Get off the Bench." It has useful, practical information that is related to personal experiences. While on reviewer believes the book is self promotion, I like that Mr Fuchs uses real life examples to further explain his topics. My favorite chapter was on mentoring. And in following the advice in the book, I have passed it on to colleagues and students.

Get off the Bench is required reading for all professionals and business people. It reminded me of my strengths, and provided me new relationship building techniques to use. I purchased a copy for my son, a freshman college student. In a young person's world dominated by impersonal tweeting and texting, Mr. Fuchs' advice will help him learn tried and true gems of relationship building. This book will not only help you at work, but also help you build and maintain relationships in life.
