Book Description

September 15, 2009
Get Out! is chockful of ideas to get families, classrooms, and groups outside learning about nature, experiencing the world in new ways, and taking a hands-on approach to the three r’s (reduce, reuse, recycle). Chapters on being a green consumer and green eater, as well as on choosing an issue and taking a stand, make for a well-rounded yet easy-to-use handbook for making a difference indoors and out. Open to any page to find something to do today. The payoff is huge: Not only is nature just plain awesome to be in, research shows that spending time outdoors can actually improve our physical and emotional health. Bonus: Kids who learn to love nature will naturally do more to conserve it. Eureka!

More About the Author

An award-winning teacher and writer, Judy Molland has keenly observed and actively participated in the world of education for over twenty-five years, both in the U.S. and in her native England. She holds a B.A. Honors degree from the University of Hull, U.K., and a Diploma in Education from the University of London. A chance meeting with an editor at Parents magazine in New York resulted in a freelance assignment on teaching tolerance to young children. To her delight, Judy discovered that she loved writing about education, and this led to her pursuing a combined career of teacher/writer. She has published numerous articles, and 2007 saw the publication of her first book, Straight Talk About Schools Today. An avid skier, backpacker, hiker and rock climber, Judy is excited to share her passion for the outdoors in her second book, Get Out! 150 Easy Ways for Kids and Grown-Ups to Get Into Nature and Build a Greener Future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Creative Outdoor Fun! October 16, 2009
Format:Paperback
Get Out! is contagious outdoor fun. For all of us parents who may have become a bit jaded and forgotten how delightful the outdoors can be, Judy Molland has written a book that shows us how much memorable fun we can have with our kids. In this creative book, the author gives us ideas like, "Turn a Walk into a Safari, Play Camouflage Tag, and Find Squirrel Highways" along with 147 more inspiring tips for getting outside and enjoying what nature has to offer us. You will be surprised at the delight your child will have when a tree they planted starts to grow or when they can proudly show off to a teacher what they have learned that their classmates have yet to find out. This is not a forced 'get your kid outside' book. It is clearly written from the author's genuine passion for being outside and her innate desire to share it with children. As a teacher, she seems to have that natural gift of being able to make learning fun. I learned a lot from this book and couldn't help but think of all the fun I can have outside with my kids, while learning how to make the world a better place when doing it.
