5.0 out of 5 stars Finally -- the deliverance you've prayed your whole life for!, January 8, 2007
Until I read this book, even though I'm a Christian, there were many strongholds in my life -- some, long-established areas of bondage -- that I was convinced were inescapable. I decided there were just some things I'd never be able to accomplish, faith or no faith. I felt defeated in a variety of areas.

Beth Moore has provided the way out using Scripture. This is not HER formula; this is God's formula. Every aspect of the deliverance process has its corresponding reference in Old and New Testament Scripture. Beth just does us the favor of putting it all together for us.

How did she know how to do it?

She's been there. This book is written by a woman who has been in the pit -- repeated times -- and has found, through Christ, LASTING deliverance.

If I had unlimited money, this would be the ONE book I would buy for every person I care about. It may well be THE most useful Christian book I have ever read and ever will read (outside the Bible itself). If you let Him, Jesus will deliver you and transform your life through this book.

God bless you!
Holly

5.0 out of 5 stars GET LIFTED OUT & STAY OUT!!!, January 6, 2007

HOPE, DELIVERANCE & COMPLETE FREEDOM!, January 4, 2007
Reviewer: Tammy@heartsofprayer.com "Author/Ministry Leader" (Myrtle Beach, SC) - See all my reviews

Wow, it doesn't get much better than this! I think this is my favorite book that she has ever written! I couldn't put this down. Living in the fallen world we do- I would dare say this is a must read for every Christian!
She tells it like it is with no beating around the bush!
This book is filled with excellent Scripture references throughout, but is based on Psalm 40 (NIV):
I waited patiently for the Lord
He turned to me and heard my cry
He lifted me out of the slimy pit
He set my feet on a rock
He put a new song in my mouth.

PLEASE NOTICE WE WAIT-
HE TURNS, HE HEARS, HE LIFTS, HE SETS, HE PUTS!
For those who have been waiting patiently, and impatiently to climb out of your pit-WAIT NO LONGER! Or maybe the problem is we try every other human way, and keep sliding back in!
So, now Your inspiration to do it God's Way is here! You will feel the very Hand of God using Beth to lower that rope that you've been waiting for, to lift you out of the muck and mire.
Allow the Holy Spirit to enlighten the eyes of your heart as you read this and you will begin to experience deliverance! This is God's will for every child of God-SALVATION & DELIVERANCE!
She explains in detail:
1-life in the pit (sometimes we know we're there, other times we have been there so long we're at home there!)
2-when you're thrown into the pit (sometimes it really is someone elses fault you're there?? but not that you stay!)
3-when you slip in the pit (ooops!)
4-when you jump into the pit (yes, we've all done it against our better senses and pretended we didn't hear the Holy Spirit screaming!)
THEN THE GREAT NEWS:
5-getting out of your pit (no matter how you got there-there is AN EXIT SIGN!)
6-the three steps out of your pit!(here, God said-how many times have I told you? but sometimes it just takes a bit of advise from another blonde whose been there to remind you!)
7-waiting on God for Deliverance (I saw you cringe! maybe I'll use another word-redeeming the time, does that sound better than wait? Actually I've found that waiting on God is a priveledge and time of building the faith that He finds more desirable for us than Gold!)
8-make up your mind (you can't mess with a woman who has FINALLY MADE UP HER MIND-not even the devil!)
9-singing a new song--a the melody of the LORD's songs of deliverance, no sweeter tune, other than the praises we can sing because of them!
10-our pitless future!!! (NO, WE DON'T HAVE TO GO BACK!) When Christ sets us FREE>>WE ARE FREE INDEED!
TIME TO MAKE "MY SPACE" GOD'S SPACE!
As LONG AS YOU PUT YOUR HOPE IN GOD, not a program, but in God-which is where Beth always points-you're on Your WAY to FREEDOM!
AND Don't forget the Scripture prayers in the back-probably one of, if not the most important part of the book! (don't cheat though)-you need to believe to receive; and Beth's inspiring stories, personal testimony and encouragement throught out the book will give the Holy Spirit plenty to work with to build your FAITH so you will stick with using the Scripture prayers and your personal discovery guide in the back of the book!

Beth Moore's "Breaking Free" was a catalyst God used in my life to rid me of life-long depression. I'd thought it was my thorn for life. "Get Out of that Pit" further solidifies her magnificent Bible teaching. I highly recommend all Beth's work!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book for true freedom!, January 21, 2007
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Another great book by Beth Moore. In this book Beth takes you on an introspective journey and gives straight talk to bring you from despair to deliverance. She pulls no punches and candy coats nothing. You will face your own sin, see the need for repentance, and be required to forgive those who've wronged you, but by doing this you can break the cycle from hopelessness, co-dependant relationships, and other destructive living. The book is well written and easy to read. There are review questions in the back of the book that could be used on your own or for a group study. These questions force you to dig deeper into your own life and thought pattern and lead you ulitmately to God, true freedom, and how much He loves us no matter our past. He wants us to live in deliverance - He wants the best for us. Beth shows Biblical proof because we often either don't believe it or think we don't deserve God's best.
I might have given this book 5 stars, but I gave it 4 because I was hoping it would deal more specifically with depression. It does not address depression in and of itself, but it does point to factors in our life that maybe aren't the direct cause of depression, but that contribute to the depth and duration. Through this book I have realized that depression has spiritual components as well as physical. Get yourself right with God. Your depression may not go away, but you can have peace even in the midst of it. I love how Beth uses Psalm 40 as the basis of the book. It is most excellent as are many of the psalms in seeing that God's people can be in despair, but they still "hope in God" and that is the key. Don't ever give up hope in God.

5.0 out of 5 stars one of the best books I have ever read, January 12, 2007
By
Lana Frazier (Rocky Mountains) - See all my reviews
I read 5-10 books a week, every week. This is one of the best books I have ever read. Moore is captivating from page 1, she speaks clearly and honestly, there is no 'huh? what does that mean' in this book at all. She clearly takes us through scripture, enabling us to get ourselves out of situations, whether we put ourselves there or another did. No one will be dissapointed in this book, truly it is a great one that I believe God led her to write!

5.0 out of 5 stars It is possible to get out of them with God's help, June 5, 2007
By
FaithfulReader.com (New York, New York) - See all my reviews
Beloved Bible teacher Beth Moore is back with her new book and message, GET OUT OF THAT PIT. In her straight-from-the-heart and hip style, she explains that while most of us will find ourselves living in a pit at some point in our lives, it is possible to get out with God's help.

Describing herself as a "former pit-dweller," Moore takes full ownership of the topic. She believes that a variety of circumstances can lead to life in a pit. Sometimes you can be thrown in a pit without doing anything to invite it or deserve it. Recounting the story of Joseph with his brothers from Genesis 37, she offers Biblical precedent for the unexpected pits of life. Crime, drunk driving, disease, mental illness and rejection are just a few of the unwelcome devices that can lead to pit life.

But we can also find ourselves slipping into a pit. We may not mean to end up in the pit, but we're there anyway. The pit wasn't planned, but we certainly played a role in landing there because of our choices or sin. We wish there was someone else to blame, but at the end of the day it isn't anybody else's fault.

The third way we become pit dwellers is by jumping --- yes, actually diving into the pit. You can take a pit plunge. Unlike slipping into a pit before you know what's happening, you actually do know and decide to go in anyway even if it turns out to be darker or deeper than you expected.

Moore argues that all of us end up in pits in our life because we're thrown in, slip in or jump in. And the Biblical way out is to cry out, confess and consent. In other words, we are meant to cry out to God through prayer, confess our sins and consent to God's design for our lives. To help readers in the redemptive process of cry out, confess and consent, Moore provides a week's worth of daily scripture prayers that include these three aspects. In addition, readers will be pleased to find a discovery guide loaded with personal reflection and application questions.

One unique facet of this book is that Moore doesn't just draw stories from her own life and those of friends and fans; she also pulls stories from the life of her husband, Keith. He describes in the Foreword how at the age of two-and-a-half years old, he and his four-year-old brother were caught in an explosion and trapped inside a burning garage. While their father was able to save Keith, he literally watched his brother burn to death, reminding us that trauma, loss and death do not discriminate.

Overall, the message of GET OUT OF THAT PIT is clear and simple. We all find ourselves in various pits of life, but it is possible to get out of them with God's help. We can make the changes in our lives through His strength and wisdom, which lead to lasting change. And it's never too late to begin the process of change. This book will be a welcome resource to fans of Beth Moore, and it may find some crossover appeal to those who enjoy the straightforward approach of Dr. Phil.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved It, January 18, 2007

I devoured Beth Moore's most recent book and then bought several to give away to friends. I'm meeting weekly with nearly 40 women who are discussing it chapter by chapter. We're preparing for her nation-wide LIVE simulcast February 24 when she'll spend several hours on the message of this book. I'd recommend this highly for anyone who's ever felt "stuck". Beth speaks from personal experience in a style that assures the reader that she's been there/done that. It's a vital message for women and men.

5.0 out of 5 stars All women should read this book!!!, January 19, 2007
By
Because women are relational, and can easily fall...or be pushed...into a pit of hopelessness, I think every woman should pick up a copy of this book to see that God does not want us in a pit, and will readily help us out if we so desire. He knows that we can not be effective, creative, powerful witnesses for Him down in a dark, lonely pit.

If you're struggling to survive in your own pit, pick up a copy of this book and discover from God's Word how you can escape the damp, darkness of your slimy pit and thrive in the fresh air and glow of God's love!

I had the priviledge to sit in a church with many other women when Beth Moore did a huge video simulcast of this particular book.

Her energy and passion for her subject and for her fellow Christians was contaigous. She shows us through references to God's word that we aren't made to sit in a pit!

We are made to live productive and joyful lives.

This book/audio is life-changing. I know it changed mine. God truly has a mouthpiece for his messages with Beth Moore.

I recommend this audio very highly.
