Teen Movie With A Twist,
By
This review is from: Get Over it (DVD)
The intro of the movie was pretty average - boy befriends girl... girl moves away... girl comes back and has a hot romance with boy in high school... girl dumps boy...Then the movie becomes interesting... as Berke (Ben Foster), leaves his ex-girlfriend's, Allison (Melissa Sagemiller), front lawn, the music of "Love Will Keep Us Together" plays and Vitamin C comes out of the garage with her band singing to the tune following Berke down the street. Pretty soon we see people joining in from a newly wed couple, to the UPS delivery woman, to two garbage men doing cartwheels, and more dancing to the tune of "Love Will Keep Us Together". It's really hilarious. To top it off, a marching band joins in and it can't get any funnier than that. From that moment on, I knew this movie was going to be a winner. It was funny all throughout the movie with Martin Short playing Dr. Desmond Forrest Oates, a flamboyant drama/music teacher, to two of Berke's best friends Dennis (Sisqo) and Felix (Colin Hanks), to Bentley "Striker" Lawrence (Shane West), a Backstreet Boys wan-na-be, who becomes Allison's new main squeeze, to his eccentric liberal parents. Then you have Kelly (Kirsten Dunst) helping Berke out in a Shakespeare play, "A Midsummer Night's Dream", in which she is also a part of, as a scheme to get Allison back. The movie evolves around the Shakespeare play and in it has funny moments and amusing musical numbers excluding "Dream Of Me" which I thought wasn't funny at all but a beautiful song sang by Kirsen Dunst. The movie also has cameo appearances by Carmen Electra and Coolio. The movie was great, but the end made it even more special. Just when I thought it was over, Sisqo does a special performance of "September", with Vitamin C, which made me want to buy this movie. I still can't get this song out of mind, not that I want to. It's that good. Too bad "September" is not in the soundtrack album. I think getting this movie just for the music alone is worth it, but the movie overall is a winner.

A Teen Comedy That's Actually Funny And Enjoyable.....,
I went to go see this movie the day it opened which also happened to be my birthday. I was hoping to see a fairly good movie, something hopefully better than such recent dissapointments as Loser, Boys And Girls or Dude, Where's My Car?. I was actually suprised to find myself not only liking this movie, but laughing as though it were an adult comedy. This movie is one of the few recent teen comedies that have actually had heart and humor... Ben Foster plays Berke, a guy who is very in love with this girl Allison. Things are going great until Allison realizes that she is no longer in love with Berke and decides to dump him.. So to win back her heart he decides to join the school's production of A Midsummer's Night Dream even though he doesn't know alot about Shakespeare. Not wanting to look like a fool, he turns to his best friend's little sister Kelly, played by Kirsten Dunst, who is very into Shakespeare for help. And before you know it Kelly falls in love with Berke and Berke is too blinded to notice because of Allison... This all seems very generic, but its very talented and charming cast livens things up and turns what could have been another teen dud into a very funny, romantic and heart warming story. Kirsten Dunst is just as perfectly suited in this role as she was in last summer's smash hit Bring It On. Ben Foster looks like he will be a very talented young actor and he is very believable in this movie as the average teenage guy who doesn't look like Freddie Prinze Jr. or Ryan Phillippe. The rest of the cast is perfect. Everyone including Colin Hanks, Sisqo, Mila Kunis, Vitamin C, Shane West, Kylie Bax and even a brief cameo from Carmen Electra help keep this movie fun and refreshing. But the reason to go see this movie is to watch Martin Short who is so funny you might want to take an extra pair of underpants! He plays the the director of the school play who is very into his work and very into criticizing his assistant and his cast. There have been better movies, but as far as teen movies go, especially the newer ones, this is one of the best. And for those of you who used to be John Hughes freaks, like myself, you'll find that this movie is like taking a nostalgic look at some of the great classics... And I think this is a classic too.

For every person who's ever been dumped and couldn't let go,
By
This review is from: Get Over it (DVD)
Berke (Ben Foster) has the perfect relationship with his high school sweetheart girlfriend Allison (Melissa Sagemiller) until one day she up and decides that she wants out and kicks him to the curb.Berke just can't let go of her despite the pleading of his two best friends Felix (Colin Hanks) and Dennis (Sisqo). To complicate matters even further, Allison falls for a popular boy band singer (think NSYNC), who just happens to go to their high school. Ordinary Berke just doesn't have a chance against the British accented pop sensation, but it doesn't stop him from trying anyway -- usually with some hilarious and I-feel-your-pain embarrassing moments. With the help from Felix's younger sister, Kelly (Kirstin Dunst), Berke hatches a plan to win back the love of his life by going head-to-head with Allison's new love in the school play. Kelly ends up falling for Berke, who is too concerned with Allison to even take notice. And so the story goes and you'll just have to watch it to see how it turns out. Colin Hanks is hilarious with his wise cracks and over-protectiveness of his sister -- especially with lines like "Hey man! Hands off the sister!" Unlike "Crazy/Beautiful" Kirstin Dunst, we get to see the cute and charming Kirstin Dunst we saw in "Bring It On". I'm not a Sisqo fan, but he does a great job in this movie and might turn out to be an okay actor. All in all, I liked this movie alot. It is definitely a movie I could watch over and over again.

A nice surprise...,
"Get Over It" is about a high school student who is dumped by his girlfriend who he has known and loved for the majority of his life. He is distruagt and in a last ditch effort to get her back is to join in on the high school play of "A Mid Summers Nights Dream". He soon comes to find out that she is no longer his love. The film is a very nice film, with great acting, a funny and toughing plot and a great cast. Ben Foster, who plays Burke shined in this movie and I belive that this is a big jump start in his career. If he were to go in to a drama-horror, say like a Psychoesqe film, it would suit him so very well. Kirsten Dunst who played Kelly, is getting better and better with each nex film, she was good in "Drop Dead Georgous", but she is even better in this. Sisqo was surprising in his role, he showed he could really act and "earned" his show-boating that you see through out the movie. My favorite character, was played by Martin Short. I was SO surprised to see him in this sort of film. It is not what you would expect from a actor of his standing, but he chose the right teen film in this. I would really, suggest you not pass this up, it is worth the price and with beautiful sets for the play and great music at the beginning and end, it is a sure fire hit that everyone can enjoy.Have a good one. Kirsten Dunst sings fantastically!,

This review is from: Get Over it (DVD)
I just watched the DVD and the songs Kirsten Dunst sings are breathtaking. I wish they would have made a longer version of "The Girl Inside" (which she sings at the audition) and put it on the Soundtrack. I listen to the Bonus Section of the DVD over and over... And the other song "Dream of me" is beyond words and truly worth buying the Soundtrack-CD. I wonder who this gifted composer is. She/He and Kirsten Dunst should make a whole CD!

A FUNNY FILM ABOUT FINDING THE RIGHT GIRL,
By
This review is from: Get Over it (DVD)
After being dumped by his longtime girlfriend, Berke (Ben Foster) turns to his friends for support, but their advice is to GET OVER IT. Instead of taking their advice, Berke goes all out to win back his sweetheart, and with the help of his best friend's sister, Kelly (Kirsten Dunst), he just may do it...or maybe not?Deciding the best way to win back Allison would be to audition for the school production of A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, Berke lands a major role, pitting him against Allison's new beau, a wannbe boy band member. What ensues is an all out war to win the heart of Allison, but as opening night approaches, Berke wonders if this is really what he wants or does his heart may belong to another? 'Get Over It' is a funny film, that keeps the laughs coming without getting silly, and features some fine performances by all it's actors, with most of the laughs being supplied by Martin Short in the role of the play's eccentric producer. The only flaw in the film is the time spent on the play, if the play was used as a backround, instead of a main setting, the movie would have been great. Nick Gonnella

GREAT LITTLE KNOWN FILM,
By
This review is from: Get Over it (DVD)
Like most everyone else on this site, I was surprised by how good this movie is. It may look like all the other teen films at the moment, but with the sound turned up on the tv--one begins to truly relate to most of the cast. Kirsten Dunst is at her best since Interview with the Vampire, and that song she sings towards the end made me fall in love with her presence. I thought the main guy (sorry no name) was great as well. From the commentary, the filmmakers state that the main actor normally hates these types of movies, but that led him to act real in this teeny bopper world. I could not agree more. Martin Short was very funny as well, but I think the true appeal with this film is depite a few teeny bopper jokes that could easily have been supplemented into a dozen films of this nature--its heart and emotion rings true and this is why I feel years from now, people will be citing this as one of the great films that went away too quickly. Rack this up on your shelf next to Overnight Delivery.

One of My Favorite Movies,
By A Customer
This review is from: Get Over it (DVD)
This has been one of my favorite movies forever! I love the storyline, and it never ceases to make me stop laughing. I seriously watch this movie every time I need something to watch and don't feel like any movie in particular, which is often a few times a week. I love the play scene at the end. Martin Short is hilarious as Forrest Oates, and Ben Foster and Kirsten Dunst do a great job. Melissa Sagemiller does a great job as Allison, and Shane West plays a hilarious Striker. And Colin Hanks is hilarious as Felix. The movie is feel-good throughout, and although it's highly predictable, it's a great movie to watch when you really want to have hope. And the music in the play at the end is so hilarious that it will keep you rolling on the floor! This is a great movie, and I highly recommend it!

Another great Kirsten Dunst Movie,

I must admit, i am a bit biased to this film. I love kirsten Dunst will all my heart, but i still try to be fair. This movie is a million times better then the largely unfunny Bring It On. Martin Short is the key to this movie. this man is one of the best comic actors ever (see Clifford!!!) Time and time again, he raises this movie above being one of the rest. Kisrten, as usual, does an amazing job with a more limited role. Colin Hanks shows some acting chops, while shane west seemed to enjoy hamming it up for his 1 dimensional role. Ben Foster was probably thie biggest dissapointment of the movie, he never seemed to really get into his role, and he looks bored throughout. The best part of this movie is his parents, they make being over the top "cool" parents seem actually believable, and the movie even seems to mock this. good stuff, see this over bring it on

Just For Fun!,

I first saw this film on cable and had no idea what it was. I don't recall ever even seeing a comercial for this film while it was in the theaters. I immediately went to CDNow.com to find out the title! Once I found it here and for sale I immediately bought it (this after having seen it once and only about 2/3's of it). Kirsten Dunst (Crazy Beautiful) once again turns in a great performance, but I hope she doesn't limit her movies to "teen movies" which seems to be her trend at the moment. She truly is a talented actress in-the-making as Interview With The Vampire and Drop Dead Gorgeous demonstrate. This is not a film of the "Vampire" callibar, but is just plain fun and silly-funny. The supporting cast is also excellant... all of which are "up-and-comers" (Among others: Sisco, Carmen Electra and Colin Hanks all in hilarious off-beat roles). I especially liked the parrallel to Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream. This is one of the view roles for Martin Short(as a loser high school drama teacher) that I found tolerable and actually VERY funny and effective. There is some very quirly humor here... like the boy band send up and the openning credits scene using the Captain and Tenille song- that always makes me giggle! One of the best parts of the movie is actually the "music video" closing credits bit where Sisco and Vitamin C re-do an Earth Wind & Fire song. I was hoping the DVD would have this as a separate extra, but alas, no. Overall this is merely a fun, funny send up of much of the current "teen scene" that can have even oldies like me giggling the whole way through. I value a movie on its "re-watchability" and this one is limitless in that! |
