The book has some good points. And it does encourage self-analysis...which can get painful if you have gone through certain bad experiences.

However, it does get judgmental at times. Authors seem to imply there is something wrong with a person who has never been in a long term relationship. Or who has not engaged in sexual intercourse by a certain age. They also state that effeminacy = homosexuality, which is not always true; while not making a similar parallel for stereotypically masculine behavior in women (double standard, perhaps?).

Overall, it has some good points- but it will not do much for your self-esteem if you are not the typical person engaging in typical behaviors by certain ages.

The author sure knows what she is talking about! This book really helped me to take a long look at myself, take responsibility for my contributions to unsuccessful relationships, learn from those mistakes, and safely tuck them behind me. The questions that she provided in the book helped me to have a better understanding of what's been going on in my past, and have provided my with a fresh new approach to my future.

The author made excellent points about why someone might be having difficulty in relationships (although I find it hard to believe anyone is that clueless) but unfortunately she did not give any steps for overcoming those issues other than suggesting therapy. Anyone who bothers to pick up a book such as this one wants to see suggestions in the book (otherwise they would have already gone to a therapist!!!). Besides, therapy is not the answer for everyone.

Awful book. It really didn't offer any good advice, instead it wanted the reader to focus on all of his/her own flaws. Its not a good read for someone trying to learn how to boast their self-esteem, in fact it seemed to try to make the reader feel worse about themselves. I wish I hadn't purchased this book. It was a waste of time and money.

When I first picked up this book I was skeptical, seeing as I've read dozens of relationship books in the past that all basically said the same thing. I was pleasantly surprised with Patti's refreshing honesty and no-holds-bar approach. I enjoyed the tests and journal entries within the book; they really allowed me to take a clearer look at my past relationships and where I was steering wrong. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who's fed up with the run of the mill dating/relationship books and are looking for something that will REALLY help you. I used Patti's tips for dating and am happy to report that I've since been on a few successful dates and have greatly improved my self-esteem! I'm ready for more!

My daughter had just been in a bad relationship and I read this review. Perfect for her. So I bought it and sent it to her. It sounds like an awesome book for those in a bad relationship and just not sure of what you want in a guy/gal. So read this before you begin another relationship or not sure about the one your in.
