There are a million books on parenting but not many that address the uniqueness of the role of grandparents in the life of a child. This book does that but it also offers excellent reminders for effective communication with your adult child and almost parent. Dr. Susan brings insight, personal experience and an exceptional amount of research to the topic of becoming a grandma. She tackles the topic of financial security for your grandchild's future with enough information to get one started in considering would be right for each family. I am not sure most of us seriously take a hard look at that in the beginning. She made me realize that all of those wonderful little "things" I have purchased for grandchildren aren't quite as important as the time I spend with them and the memories I try to make. I would recommend this book for anyone who is going to become a first time gramma or adding another grandchild to the family.

Waiting patiently for your new miracle,is hard to do. But, through bonds that are strengthed by the preparation suggested by Dr. Susan, your changed world will "rock". This Guidebook has suttle and natural advice. Suggestions are reasonable and helpful. Dr. Susan addresses a wide range of emotions, money matters,and how to perserve your family traditions and legacy. She prepares the grandmother's heart, mind and home. This is a must read for new Grandmothers but also a good resource for anyone expecting the joy of a new grandchild.

I bought this book as a gift for my Mom being that I am expecting my first child this spring. She really enjoyed it and gave positive feedback.

Recently my husband and I found out we were going to be grandfather and step-grandmother for the first time! With that news came excitement, nervousness and anticipation. Dr. Susan's book provides sound advice for the questions we had about this upcoming event. She offers practical guidance and personal insight regarding changing relationships and the importance of family in our lives. Her love of being a grandmother shines throughout this book. I recommend this book to anyone about to become a grandmother!

What a great book for the 21st century grandmother. This is a useful tool for everything from "who will you be" to how to handle the most sensitive issues.

This creative Guidebook for Grandmothers is the perfect handbook to read during the waiting period for the new grandbaby! It kept me from spending my days worrying about the new baby and gave me plenty of positive things to think about during the stressful nine months! Get Ready to Be a Grandmother is a lifesaver! I loved this book and all of the musical references! I particularly liked the selection of Dr. Susan's lullaby's! I sent a copy to my mom so she too could have the joy of reading this neat book!

"Get Ready" inspires and empowers all grandmothers to unite families through better communication. Dr. Montjar really knows her stuff when it comes to intergenerational communication and grandmothering skills. The quotes from a Beatles song at the opening of each chapter are captivating and timeless. I was taken back to the time when I was a new parent so many years ago. This guidebook to grandmothering is a terrific book for new as well as "old" grandmothers!

Every new Grandmother should read this book! It has such great suggestions and practical ideas for any Grandmother (even if this is not her first grandchild). I loved the many ideas for toys, room decorations, music and how you need to adjust your home for a new baby. With this high-tech world we live in, Gramma Guru has perfect suggestions for you! I loved it and my daughter was thrilled I was reading it. Grandpa is going to read it next! Nana in South Dakota.

Dr. Monjar does a wonderful job of combining practical information on pregnancy and birth, with very human experiences--including her own! Her insight has helped me to not only be more aware of, and sensitive to my daughter's experience, but has also helped me to embrace every moment with respect, gratitude, and overwhelming anticipation!
