This review is from: Get Ready: Definitive Performances 1965-1972 [DVD] - The Temptations (DVD)
Truly an extraordinary DVD package which includes the very essence of the Temptations!
Most of the performances were lip-synched, but just to see them perform on these classic clips, you can truly feel the magic either for the first time if you haven't seen them during their glory days or if you are a nostalgic fan revisiting the past! Groovy shows such as the Hollywood Palace, The Ed Sullivan Show (of which I have many video clips of the Tempts on VHS) and Murray the K features the Tempts doing what they are known around the world for...doing their precise movements, singing their tight harmonies AND looking good doing it! For me, the extras are what impress me, especially viewing the Tempts hard at work on SORRY IS A SORRY WORD, a taping for the CBS News segment, THE MOTOWN SOUND. Otis's interview throughout the DVD and during the bonus feature is also another highlight for me. He was there through it all and is still around to tell us about the magic of the Temptations! The acapella section on 15 of their biggest hits continues to awe and astound me! It is like they didn't need a rhythm section...the harmonies were that tight! Complete with never-before released photos and another excellent essay by Rob Bowman, this is a must have!

The acapellas are beautiful. I agree with one of the other reviewers 100% in the fact that the Tempts didn't need a rhythm section. There are 15 acapella tracks on this dvd. You'll hear Melvin Franklin, the bass in the background like never before.Without the background music and just the vocals, you'll hear Melvin sing his bum-bum's on Don't Look Back,I Wish It Would Rain,Ain't Too proud To Beg,CLoud Nine, {Runaway Child, Running Wild},My Girl, and at (the end of The Way You Do The Things You Do,but you'll have to listen carefully to hear it though).(Turn up your sub-woofer and/or bass level to hear Melvin Franklin more on the acapellas).
The harmonies are impeccable, the performances are just as good. The Temptations sound like a church group, they are like 5 deacons harmonizing together. At the acapella section of the DVD listen to the tight harmonies on the "aah's" from {Get Ready}, the "ooo's" from {You're My Everything}, the way they harmonize on "Oh Yeah", "Dear Lord" ,"I Will Surely Die" and "Her Love Is" and of course the "ooo's" from {Just My Imagination} is just remarkable. And the way they harmonize on {The Way You Do The Things You Do} especially at the end is just as remarkable. The other songs are great also. What's really special is how The Tempts give a doo-wop feel to songs like {Runaway Child, Running Wild} and {CLoud Nine}, by making great use of their bass Melvin Franklin. Bum~bum Otis Williams' interviews between every song is very interesting and very informative. He gives insight about each member of the group including Dennis. He discusses the recording sessions about their biggest hits. This DVD is a must have for every die-hard Temptation fan and for Temptation fans that aren't die-hard fans. ANd I definitely recommend this to any music fan who likes/loves old school, and is interested in watching incredible choreography, listening to great singing. The acapellas are the real treat, in my opinion. Like Otis said "The Harmony of The Classic 5 will never be matched." R.I.P. Paul Williams, Melvin Franklin, David Ruffin, Eddie Kendricks "Temptations Forever"

This review is from: Get Ready: Definitive Performances 1965-1972 [DVD] - The Temptations (DVD)
These guys are fantastic. They are without a doubt, the best motown group that ever was. They're fantastic performers as this shows and it's nice to see all the originals here. The songs are catchy and infectious and this dvd is thoroughly enjoyable. It's something that every Temptations fan must own because it's got some of their best footage on here. I love it and hope you all enjoy it as much as I do. It's also great to have this kind of footage on a dvd for the quality. I highly recommend this.
