5.0 out of 5 stars Keep up the good work, UMe and Reelin'!
Truly an extraordinary DVD package which includes the very essence of the Temptations!

Most of the performances were lip-synched, but just to see them perform on these classic clips, you can truly feel the magic either for the first time if you haven't seen them during their glory days or if you are a nostalgic fan revisiting the past! Groovy shows such as...

3.0 out of 5 stars Temptations - Get Ready
Otis Williams' narrative of the DVD is great. Lots of background info. However, I watched the actual performances with mixed feelings. Some were good, others were not as good. Camera angles are way off the mark on some, as explained in the booklet. I remember the Tempts being much more polished and precise than shown in this DVD. Most performances are taken from TV...

Groovy shows such as the Hollywood Palace, The Ed Sullivan Show (of which I have many video clips of the Tempts on VHS) and Murray the K features the Tempts doing what they are known around the world for...doing their precise movements, singing their tight harmonies AND looking good doing it!

For me, the extras are what impress me, especially viewing the Tempts hard at work on SORRY IS A SORRY WORD, a taping for the CBS News segment, THE MOTOWN SOUND.

Otis's interview throughout the DVD and during the bonus feature is also another highlight for me. He was there through it all and is still around to tell us about the magic of the Temptations!

The acapella section on 15 of their biggest hits continues to awe and astound me! It is like they didn't need a rhythm section...the harmonies were that tight!

Complete with never-before released photos and another excellent essay by Rob Bowman, this is a must have!

5.0 out of 5 stars {THE TEMPTATIONS ARE THE GREATEST} INCREDIBLE {SO GET READY}, September 13, 2006

This review is from: Get Ready: Definitive Performances 1965-1972 [DVD] - The Temptations (DVD)
The acapellas are beautiful. I agree with one of the other reviewers 100% in the fact that the Tempts didn't need a rhythm section. There are 15 acapella tracks on this dvd. You'll hear Melvin Franklin, the bass in the background like never before.Without the background music and just the vocals, you'll hear Melvin sing his bum-bum's on Don't Look Back,I Wish It Would Rain,Ain't Too proud To Beg,CLoud Nine, {Runaway Child, Running Wild},My Girl, and at (the end of The Way You Do The Things You Do,but you'll have to listen carefully to hear it though).(Turn up your sub-woofer and/or bass level to hear Melvin Franklin more on the acapellas).

The harmonies are impeccable, the performances are just as good. The Temptations sound like a church group, they are like 5 deacons harmonizing together.

At the acapella section of the DVD listen to the tight harmonies on the "aah's" from {Get Ready}, the "ooo's" from {You're My Everything}, the way they harmonize on "Oh Yeah", "Dear Lord" ,"I Will Surely Die" and "Her Love Is" and of course the "ooo's" from {Just My Imagination} is just remarkable. And the way they harmonize on {The Way You Do The Things You Do} especially at the end is just as remarkable. The other songs are great also. What's really special is how The Tempts give a doo-wop feel to songs like {Runaway Child, Running Wild} and {CLoud Nine}, by making great use of their bass Melvin Franklin. Bum~bum

Otis Williams' interviews between every song is very interesting and very informative. He gives insight about each member of the group including Dennis. He discusses the recording sessions about their biggest hits.

This DVD is a must have for every die-hard Temptation fan and for Temptation fans that aren't die-hard fans. ANd I definitely recommend this to any music fan who likes/loves old school, and is interested in watching incredible choreography, listening to great singing. The acapellas are the real treat, in my opinion. Like Otis said "The Harmony of The Classic 5 will never be matched."

R.I.P. Paul Williams, Melvin Franklin, David Ruffin, Eddie Kendricks

5.0 out of 5 stars The best Motown group :->, September 9, 2006

These guys are fantastic. They are without a doubt, the best motown group that ever was. They're fantastic performers as this shows and it's nice to see all the originals here. The songs are catchy and infectious and this dvd is thoroughly enjoyable. It's something that every Temptations fan must own because it's got some of their best footage on here. I love it and hope you all enjoy it as much as I do. It's also great to have this kind of footage on a dvd for the quality. I highly recommend this.

I enjoyed watching this collection..but it would've been nice to see Paul Williams' performance of "For once in my life" from the 1968 TCB special from NBC. Better yet, it's long overdue for this special to be released on dvd.

I purchased this DVD a few weeks ago. I highly recommend this DVD. Along with great performances, it has bonus tracks that are a cappella(without music), where you can hear those beautiful voices, with that great harmony, we've come to love. Definitely worth five stars. If I could give it ten stars, I would. Do yourself a favor. If you are a true Temptations' fan, get this DVD.This DVD is so full of great performances it'll make your head spin. All I can say is Wow!!! Now if only they could find some of the performances of the Temptations' Re-Union Tour and put those on DVD. That would be the greatest . Again, all I can say is Wow!!!

Well done and well overdue.A great addition especially for the price. To recapture, who many regard as the greatest singing group in rock and roll history, and particularly the classic five lineup is breathtaking. The distinctive, cutting edge, and silky smooth David Ruffin, the high falsetto and teddy bear cute (By Otis own admission from a fan's comment) Eddie Kendricks, the 3rd lead singer and dance master Paul Williams, the resounding low bass of Melvin Franklin, who sang lead on a few songs, and of course, the glue that kept it all together,Otis Williams with his background vocals. Add the edgy voice of Dennis Edwards as Ruffin's replacement with their "statement songs", and this is the ultimate music DVD.It was a great touch to add Otis (the only one there from the beginning in the 1950's to the present), commentary on each track and in general. This sets this DVD apart from other Temps music DVDs. The aucopella tracks are also great. But it is always the showmanship as a group that set them apart from the rest of the motown groups. I have been listening and watching rock and roll since early Elvis, and have followed this group since "The Way You Do the Things You Do" in 1964. I have yet to see a group equal to this group in pure talent. Two great (David and Eddie) and 3 good (Paul, Melvin, later Dennis) lead singers, all 5 tall and lean(atleast 6 feet tall). They set the standard in coreography, and their peerless harmonies as you can hear on the aucopella tracks. My favorite dvd clip is the 1965 "Way You do the Things You Do" performance. Their routine is raw and untamed, right before in 1966 Cholly Atkins came to motown and refined their moves, in my opinion, Paul's "Don't look back", David's "I Wish It would Rain",their routine on "Get Ready" are spectacular.I SURE HOPE THEY PUT OUT A 2ND AND 3RD DVD ILLUMINATING THIS GROUP, we may never see their likes again!!!
