If you are a fan of the Motown sound, this is a must buy! Human Nature manages to update these great songs without making them unrecognizable. As proof that they have handled these Motown gems with respect, Smokey Robinson even backs them with their Las Vegas show at the Imperial Palace, and sings along with them on one track from Get Ready. Mary Wilson of the Supremes is also featured on a few tracks, and boy does she still have it. In fact, I do believe Mary can sing Ms. Ross under the table, and this is evidenced by her strong vocal performances on this cd.

4.0 out of 5 stars Las Vegas show substitution!, January 17, 2011

Had tickets to see Human Nature live in Las Vegas, but the concert was canceled due to illness of one of the performers. Won't get back to Vegas until sometime next year, so I decided to purchase one of their CDs. Glad I did. Now I'm really anxious to see them live.

I had never heard of these guys until I read an interview with Mary Wilson of the Supremes in a recent issue of "Goldmine" magazine. They had already released two Motown tribute albums in 2005 and 2006. I found both recordings enjoyable, even if they conjured images of Vegas and "American Idol." But "Get Ready" really cooks with the addition of the vintage Motown guest stars. Smokey Robinson would have been 67 when bringing his timeless talent and ageless charm to the title track and "Tears of a Clown." Mary Wilson, then 63, sounds -almost- as powerful as Tina Turner's 1966 version of "River Deep Mountain High." She definitely rocks harder than the post-Ross Supremes & Four Tops chart hit from 40 years ago (!). No wonder Miss Ross resists reuniting: Mary Wilson never lost her pipes, her curves, her grit or her class. She's also in fine form on "It Takes Two." (Somebody please invite Kim Weston to participate in these Motown reunion events--she still sounded great last time I heard her!)
I've never been a fan of boy bands, but these guys won me over. Picture "Jersey Boys" being a regular recording and performing group. Now that everyone's jumped on the Motown bandwagon, maybe it's time to rediscover and introduce a new generation to the Memphis sound?
