5.0 out of 5 stars My personal financial bible!, June 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Get Rich Slow (Paperback)
I have been reading this book for guidance in my financial planning, much like one reads a bible over and over for staying on track in life. It has been a great source for avoiding the pitfalls of finance that have been eating us all alive. I often find myself going back to certain chapters when I need to fine tune my planning and when I have gone through an 'expansion' phase and need to keep from getting into a 'recession' phase. I hope there will be a millenium version to cover new trends as the one covering Roth IRA's did.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is fantastic guide to financial security., November 5, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Get Rich Slow (Paperback)
This book is written in an easy to read format. She does a great job of presenting the material and she includes a little humor every once in a while to freshen things up. Once I started the book I could not put it down. I read the entire book in 3 evenings. I reread the book every year or two.

This book should be mandatory reading for every high school and/or college student. It is as important as their other texts.

I just ordered 2 more of her books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple & straightforward explanations of financial subjects, April 24, 2004
This review is from: Get Rich Slow: Build a Firm Financial Foundation... a Dollar at a Time (Paperback)
I would strongly recommend this book to people of all ages and situations. Ms. McAleese uses clear, easily understood writing with good no-nonsense advice and examples. And her basic aim is quite straightforward - don't make choices about situations involving money without knowing fully how you (and the other guy) stand to benefit. It will show you how to see when a great situation is really only great for the other guy. And thus, you get rich by not giving your money away.

My wife and I have used our copy to guide us through many choices - budgeting, saving, insurance, retirement planning, homebuying - with great success. It has saved us when times were tough and has enabled us to do the things we want without sinking into debt. For a regular middle-class couple, we feel very well off just because we understand our own finances well.

In fact, I regularly give this book as a gift to friends (and their graduation-age kids) as a way to help them avoid some of the mistakes I made before I got this book. I know that sounds cheesy, but it's quite true.
