Biography

Sea Wolf is a band led by Alex Brown Church, an indie folk musician based in Los Angeles, California. Church attended film school at NYU and was a founding member of a group called Irving in 1998. Many of the songs he wrote as a member of Irving didn't fit the group's style and so Church began performing as Sea Wolf with a rotating ensemble of backing musicians, playing locally in Los ... Editorial Reviews

Sea Wolf is the vehicle for Alex Church's songs. Born in the small gold rush town of Columbia, CA, his musical memories were shaped by ad hoc bluegrass outfits playing for tourists on sidewalks of his hometown, coupled with Beatles and Willie Nelson records on his mom's turntable. The sound he sought and achieved on this record is a combination of delicate, arching melodies and foggy, elegiac narratives. Over the spare instrumentation, his voice can be weary or buoyant, but it's always capable of leaving an indelible impression. "Lushly orchestrated indie rock" - LA Times.

Alex Church, the lead singer and founder of Sea Wolf, was a founding member of my favorite band, Irving. His songwriting skills are amazing, and this EP, Get to the River Before It Runs Too Low, showcases his ability to write beautiful and engaging songs perfectly. My personal favorite is You're a Wolf, but every song he writes finds a way to burrow into my subconscious. While I lament the fact that he is no longer with Irving, I rejoice in the beauty that is Sea Wolf and am so thankful he is still bringing new songs into the world. I can't wait for the full album that will be released this year! In the meanwhile, I'm so excited to see Sea Wolf play live - they blew me away when I saw them play the noise pop festival.

This CD was good, and I defnitely want to hear more from them. It did sound a bit too much like old Bright Eyes at times. I think this is a good band to watch for in the future.

What a great debut! The lyrics are simply fantastic, and this EP is a really amazing mix of songs of different tempo. The first song, You're a Wolf, made it onto their subsequent album, Leaves in the River, later in 2007. I ended up buying both this EP and Leaves in the River because their music was so good. The EP ends with I Don't Know if I'll Be Back This Time, possibly the best song on the EP, although I think that The Garden That You Planted is really good, too.

I got this as a gift a while ago, I'd never heard of Sea Wolf at the time. I've probably listened to this cd 100 times over the past couple of years. Yeah, it is short- only 5 songs, but it is great. I have a couple other cd's by them (because I liked this one so much), I think this is the best. It is a very cohesive album as opposed to a collection of songs. If you have the least bit of interest in Sea Wolf, buy/borrow/steal this. You won't be disappointed.

A beautiful and melancholy EP. Fits perfectly alongside their "Leaves In the River" album.
