Another great album from a band destined for greatness!!,

If you liked The Donnas before, you'll like them even more now. If you don't know who The Donnas are, after this album, you will. With better, beefier production than it's predecessor "American Teenage Rock And Roll Machine", this album just flat out rocks, musically. And the lyrics, well...the lyrics make you smile, because it's the way you probably felt when you were a teenager, but were too embarassed to admit it. This album (which includes a great cover of the Motley Crue classic "Too Fast For Love") is typical Donnas. Drop The Ramones, "Dressed To Kill"-era KISS, and a touch of The Runaways in a blender, and top it off with the punk-pop sensibilities of "Dream Police"-era Cheap Trick, and you'll come pretty close to the rock'n'roll party that is The Donnas. Don't miss out on this one, because I think it may be the start of something big!!!

Donnas - 'Get Skintight' (Lookout),
By
This review is from: Get Skintight (Audio CD)
Review no.59. Truly outstanding, WAY above average full-throttled all girl rock 'n roll. Every cut here kicks total *ss, but just a few I thought I'd mention are "You Don't Wanna Call", the rocking "Doin' Donuts", "Searching Through The Streets" and "I Didn't Like You Anyway". Fans of the Runaways, early Go-Go's, Ramones and maybe Blondie will be wetting their under garments over this one. Buy two copies of this CD in case you wear the first one out. Highly recommended.

The Donnas... Get a Good Review from Leery,
By Racer Django (Auburn, ME) - See all my reviews

In recent years, it is common for a strapping young lad, like myself, to proclaim that they were keenly fond of a certain band "before they became famous". When said strapping young lad utters those words, it is often followed by the dreaded "but then they sold out". This is not true for the Donnas. I became aware of these four bratty vixens either in 2000 or 2001. The album was "...Get Skintight", and the location was my car. My friend popped in a borrowed CD of the album, and we listened to it until dawn was cracking. I will admit, at first I didn't think that there was anything special about the album. The second time I listened to it, I said, "Wow, this is actually catchy." The third time I listened to it, I said, "I could totally worship this." And I did. From that day forward, I put my eardrums on a strict diet of the Donnas, 24/7. Shortly after, the Donnas were adorning their angsty (but still purrrty) faces on most every music magazine imaginable. Yes, it is true, I did like the Donnas before mainstream success, but I did not burden my listening pleasures with the epithet of "selling out". In fact, if any band should be successful, why, I couldn't imagine any other band to do it better than that skintight quad everyone's talking about.

Party Action,

This band is all about suburban rebellion . Do not look closer for deeper meaning. There is none. It is traditionally male rock music lead by a bunch of girls. They sing about getting dissed by guys, dissing guys, partying, getting stoned, casual sex, causing trouble and most importantly having fun. Their songs are short, catchy, and fast. They have clever lyrics like in "Zero" ("You're a zero on my rockometer/If you wanna get hot/go turn on a heater.") and at times humorous ("I wanna take you home with me/wine and dine you with cable TV) "Skin Tight", ("Tonight, I'm drinking for two/that's all I learned in school") "Doin' Donuts". My favorite track is "You Don't Wanna Call." I love the lyrics for that song and the attitude in singer Donna A's voice. She wants this guy to call her but when she realizes he's not going to, she shrugs it off while only pretending that it does not matter. The band does a great cover of Motley Crue's "Too Fast for Love," where they nail every one of their riffs. They are an all girl band. It's too bad that there are not that many bands that rock hard enough let alone all girl ones that can cover "Too Fast for Love" `B-O-R-ING'? Definitely not! Play this record loud and tell everyone `get outta my room'. Hopefully their new release "The Donnas Turn 21" will be just as good as this one.

hey all,The Donnas kick butt! Equal part Ramones/Joan Jett/and yes, some cock rock solos for good measure. Forget the whole women in rock media hype, The Donnas deliver the goods...and then some! Donna A's "12 year old in heat" voice puts guys on the defensive, and Donna R.'s potent guitar riffs will hold your attention while you pogo in yer room! I'm tired of women gettin' backlash for penning in your face lyrics that deal with sexuality. Too often, their labeled "hoes" etc. but do The Donnas care?! Nope. Today's rock world is sadly filled with over serious, pompous ego maniacs and the worst part is they aren't even close to rockin'! The Donnas shatter all pretentions of bein' some "chick band" dedicated to a "girls can play too" mission, the songs speak for themselves. "Get Skintight" has attitude to spare, Donna R. puts you to shame on guitar, so swallow yer pride and shake yer booty to "Get Skintight"!

The Donnas' cd "Skintight" is not B-O-R-I-N-G at all. The perfect fun cd with great vocals and a kickin' punk rock sound. The four Donnas could captivate anyone with their teenage spirits of having fun, guys, and partying.

I like girl bands, and I like the Ramones a lot. The Donnas are pretty obviously borrowing the Ramones' recipe for rock - which is, I must say, a very simple one. Don't expect deep insight in this record, but it is fun.

HEATHERS revisited,
By A Customer
This review is from: Get Skintight (Audio CD)
The Donnas are the Rock 'n Roll version of Heathers. A little bit bad and tad pink, and a whole lot cool and, like, isn't that what it's all about? The songs are crisp, tight and fast as all hell - these girls inject post-high school angst, defiant suburban rebellion and jaded punk rock hijinx into catchy two minute ditties. Songs like the Donna's ode to mind altering contraband ("Hooking it up") and their brazen approach to casual sex ("Searching the Streets") blister with pink girlishness. A few numbers seem to chug along and are a bit hindered by Donna A's indifferent vocals, but there are no selections on this album as anthemic as "Checkin it out" or "Rock and Roll Machine," and "Hyperactive." With previous albums' Ramones inflections toned down in favor of Joan Jettish rock, The Donnas are able to convey with a few licks what a majority of whiny rock singers struggle a whole album to express: unfiltered, ranting punk from the depths of middle class America.

Pure rock n' roll bliss,
By A Customer
This review is from: Get Skintight (Audio CD)
This CD is like a refresher course in what rock n' roll is all about. Although often considered a punk band, I think the Donnas are much better described as simply a rock band, and this music is, to me, rock in its purest form. The songs are short, fast, and exciting, with great and very clever lyrics about partying and having fun. Isn't that what rock is about? The world could use more bands like this. Highly recommended!
