This review is from: Get Smart, Again! (DVD)
This should be the standard for which all made for TV reunion movies should follow! "Get Smart, Again" aired on ABC in the early 90's to very high ratings with good reason, It's good! Would you believe, Great! Yes, Great!
CONTROL is back in business to fight the evil forces of KAOS!
The old gang is back Agent 86 (Don Adams), Agent 99 (Barbara Feldon), Hymie (Dick Gautier) to stop the sinister Sigfried (Bernie Kopell) Besides most of the original cast returning many of the series original creative team has returned. Leonard B. Stern, Mark Curtiss & Rod Ash wrote the script and Gary Nelson directed. The movie preserves all of the flavor of the comedy of the Get Smart series yet makes it contempoary enough for today's audiences something the makers of the dreadful 1980 feature film "The Nude Bomb" also starring Don Adams did not do!
The reason my rating is not 5 stars is because of the DVD itself!
The picture quality is very poor. The color is washed out, there is no sharpness or brightness every scene looks as if it were filmed through gauze! The DVD package says "Digitally Mastered" but mastered from what, a VHS tape? Don't let the poor quality of the DVD discourage you. The excellent quality of the movie, the script and all the performances are worth the price! A must have for all "Get Smart" fans! Until we get the complete orginal series on DVD or even a better print of "Get Smart, Again" this will have to do!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fans of the show will love this movie, February 1, 2005
This review is from: Get Smart Again (DVD)
It's 1989, and the United States government finds itself being blackmailed by that evil organization KAOS. There's only one man that can foil the machinations of KAOS, and that is decommissioned agent 86, Maxwell Smart (played by Don Adams). Once Smart has rounded up all of the old CONTROL agents, he and his wacky crew are in pursuit of KAOS and their old nemesis Conrad Siegfried (Bernie Kopell). But, KAOS has a new and unknown "Mr. Big." Who is he, and what does he want? It is up to Max to get to the bottom of this tangled web!

Well, I must say, it was very nice to see this movie, with so many of the old Get Smart regulars! There's Max, Agent 99 (Barbara Feldon), Siegfried, Hymie (Richard Gautier), Larrabee (Robert Karvelas), Shtarker (King Moody), Agent 13 (the agent who's always hiding in things - David Ketchum), and even Max's car. As for the movie itself, I recognized a lot of the old jokes, but the show itself recycled them all so many times that it was just like old times.

My family and I enjoyed watching this movie, and I loved seeing the old CONTROL crew (minus the Chief, Edward Platt, who passed away in 1974). So, if you were a fan of the old 1965-70 American television show, "Get Smart," then you will love this move. My family and I highly recommend it to you.

5.0 out of 5 stars very good reunion film!, November 9, 1999
By A Customer
This is absolutely the best "reunion" movie for a TV comedy I have ever seen. It features most of the original cast, and was written by the original writers. It really works as a sequel (something the 1980 film The Nude Bomb failed at) and is genuinely funny. Anyone who is considering making one of these reunions should wtch this one as a blue print of how to do it right. Later followed by 7 all new Get Smart episodes (aired on FOX in 1995)which were just OK. I would like to see these on video also. See also "the Nude Bomb"

3.0 out of 5 stars Barbara Feldon returns to help Don Adams in "Get Smart,Again!", May 27, 2009
This review is from: Get Smart Again (DVD)
The original "Get Smart" tv series was broadcast on NBC 1965-69 and CBS 1969-70. Starring Don Adams as "Maxwell Smart" (Agent 86) and Barbara Feldon as "Agent 99".Get Smart - Season 1 (The Original TV Series)
10 years later, Don Adams returned as "Maxwell Smart" in the motion picture, The Nude Bomb (1980). Other original cast memebers returned, but without Barbara Feldon and the late Edward Platt.
In 1989, Don Adams and Barbara Feldon reteamed for the new tv-movie, "Get Smart, Again!".
Also returning, David Ketchum as "Agent 13", Dick Gautier as "Hymie", Robert Karvelas as "Larrabee", Bernie Kopell as "Siegfried" and King Moody as "Shtarker".
C.O.N.T.R.O.L suspects their is a double agent in their organization. Someone else is working for KOAS. The only man capable of investigating on this case is ex-Agent 86, Maxwell Smart, but would he be wearing his phone shoe after all these years? The United States Intelligence Agency gives it a try.
Maxwell is at a funeral when his phone rings, er ah, I mean his shoe rings.
Smart is re-activated by the USIA to, once again, stop KAOS from destroying the world, but he only has 7 days to do it. Maxwell Smart enlists the help of his former collegues.

Also in the cast: Harold Gould and Roger Price (who both appeared in an episode on the original tv series), John de Lancie, Kenneth Mars, Steve Levitt, Lou Felder, Fritz Feld.

Running time: 93 min.

This DVD has no extras. No audio commentary.

In 1995, Don Adams and Barbara Feldon reteamed again for the new FOX tv series, Get Smart: The Complete Series. Only 7 episodes were broadcast.

Don Adams and Barbara Feldon reunited on the 1 TV Land Awards in 2003.

Don Adams passed away September 25, 2005 of pulmonery infection.

Remake of "Get Smart":

Get Smart (Single-Disc Fullscreen Edition) (2008) starring Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway.

The Get Smart Again movie is good, but the original TV series are much better. In my opinion, Get Smart is among the best and the funniest tv series ever released. I am looking forward to see them on DVD. I hope, soon!

4.0 out of 5 stars Have the producers ever failed us.........lately, September 26, 2005

They must release the TV episodes on DVD. I grew up watching this show..many times! The show hasn't grown up. That is, it hasn't aged. We watch it now and, even though we know what's coming, we still laugh at the jokes. There are so many one-liners, so many scenes, so many characters that are classics. Maybe it should be curriculum material in all schools.
I hate to say it but, with the death of Don Adams at 82 (I can only picture him as eternally 42 years old) hopefully the inconsiderate owners of the show will be encouraged to release the series. Every cloud has a silver lining and this would be a fitting tribute to Don.
I hope I wasn't out of line with the crack about inconsiderate!

3.0 out of 5 stars Get Get Smart on DVD!!!, January 19, 2004

Dwayne Berry (Evansville, IN United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Get Smart, Again! (DVD)
Although this movie doesn't hold a candle to the original series, it's nice to see all the old characters again. Now...what we really need is for the Get Smart series to be released on DVD. It would be so cool to be able to go back and watch all of the old episodes. There's tons of special things that they could do with the discs, like when you click on a selection, one of the doors could open in the hall and/or Max hangs up the phone and crosses his arms in the phone booth and drops through the trap door. They could have a bonus disc with each season...maybe one that shows the gadgets of Get Smart, one that shows all of the Control or KAOS agents, one that talks about the guest stars or the spoofs, etc. Even if they don't put any extra stuff on them, I'll buy it. If you would be willing to buy the Get Smart series on DVD, leave a review for this movie or The Nude Bomb and say so. Maybe someone who matters will notice how many people love that series and someday they might release it. I mean if Gilligan's Island and Lost In Space can come out on DVD... The only big problem I could see for it coming out on DVD is that it spent time on 2 different networks, but that didn't stop it from syndication or from marketing collectibles. Anyways, we want our Max and 99!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars I MUST HAVE "GET SMART" THE ORIGINAL TV SERIES!, May 3, 2005
By
K. Raine (Orange County, CA) - See all my reviews
In my search to find it on DVD, I went to a store I was told about and the kid at the store had to guess what "Get Smart" was! TV? What is wrong with today's youth! Hey, there was a guy in line about my age that also remarked how great the show was.

I have seen every episode of "Get Smart" along with my family. "Get Smart" is part of our culture! We LOVE this show! We quote this tv show all the time and it gives us great pleasure to do so. I mean, how many times does "Camp Gitchie Goomie Noonie Wa Wa" with Siegfried's accent come into your conversation?! Or, to Max's dog that only understood German, "Nimmt die Bomb!" "If Kubecek is here, Tamara will go into the dance of the 7 veils, if he's at the 1st table, she'll take off 1 veil, if she's at the 2nd table, she'll take off 2 veils, and so on and so on." Max, "What if he's at table 7?" "Then the cops come in and close the place down!"

C'mon, we got to get this on DVD! How many times can I vote? There are too many great one liners from this tv show. I hope there are others that are ready to join the cult following or revival for this great tv show!

3.0 out of 5 stars How can Get Smart the series not be on DVD???, April 14, 2004
This review is from: Get Smart, Again! (DVD)
The dvd movie is fine but lacks the original humour and flair and tight comedy of the original series.
This series would have to be one of the funniest shows ever produced.
Whatever company puts out this series on dvd will make an absolute fortune. Please, please somebody get the wheels moving and get this great series onto DVD as soon as possible. The movies do not do justice to what the series was like ,is and always will be Comedy "GOLD" !!
Someone should release the "cone of silence" and tell us when this legendary series will be available on dvd.
