A Phat Summer CD for 2K1,
By David P. Leonard (Gurnee, IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Get a Taste (Audio CD)
If you're like me, then you have such a wide range of music tastes that you spend half the time in the car changing CD's and avoiding accidents and the other half burning compilation CD's at home to get the just right mix of awesome music on one CD. Well no more, my friend. I just picked this CD up yesterday on the recommendation of one song and let me tell you, this disc has it all. It is the end-all be-all of great summer music of 2K1. It seems sometimes that Sprung Monkey is as schizophrenic as I am in music tastes, because with one song ("Party Like a Rock Star") they have a great Sugar Ray/Sublime feel, while on others ("Unexpected") they get an Offspring groove going perfectly. And how could you miss the other spectacular songs on here like "What's That You Say" (a superb punk ballad) or "Whatcha Gonna Do" (with it's melodic tripped out guitars). I have already got my tickets to see them (luckily) in Milwaukee this next week and I can't wait!If you love the music stylings of Tony Hawk's ProSkater soundtracks, this disc will make you wanna grab your board, your bladez, your parachute, your hangglider or at least a beer and hang with your buds. A great CD!!!!

What's happened guys?!,

I thought for a while about whether to give this CD a 2 or a 3. I gave it a 3 because it is a fairly decent CD, it's just totally different to what I was expecting and hoping for. If you like catchy, melodic alternative songs then go ahead any buy it. But if you, like me, loved 'Mr Funny Face' and think you'll be getting more of the same, then you might also be disappointed. The best thing about'Mr Funny Face' was its complete originality and its technical complexity- those drums! wow! But that's all gone on 'Get a Taste'- and every song has one of those catchy hooking choruses, and after about 9 songs this gets a bit wearing. There are a few good tracks worth mentioning- 'Friends' reminds me a bit of 'Mr Funny Face', 'Whatcha Gonna Do' is a track with good old Sprung Monkey dark undercurrents and 'American Made' has a lot of the old energy. Apart from that not many of the others stick out. What happened, Sprung? You've gone too mainstream!!!

Very rad album,
This review is from: Get a Taste (Audio CD)
I'm not usually a sprung Monkey fan but when I heard What's That You Say and Party Like A Rockstar I figured what the heck and a got a few of their MP3s. I bought this album as an impulse when I saw it in a store because it was only 9 bucks. It was well worth it, this is now one of my favorite Cds, it's been in the #1 spot in my 5 disc CD player for weeks, a rare thing for me. I don't have to skip a track, all are awesome. This is the perfect summer album. So stop watsing your time reading this review and go buy it! Go, shoo!
