Do or Die - Get That Paper,
This review is from: Get That Paper (Audio CD)
Do Or Die (A.K., N.A.R.D., Belo) seventh album is "Get That Paper" (2006). The Chicago group provides a short twelve track release which is started off by the bouncy forgettable "24-36-24", the measurements of a woman the trio rhymes about. Halfhearted cuts like "Get Yo Gunz" and "Grown Folks Biz", the Do Or Die trio drop lackluster lyrics and don't come off convincing. The albums first semi-standout for me is "Hey Ma!", which features UGK's Bun B, backed by some smooth production, the trio talk to the ladies. I can't really give the group much credit though for this one as its a direct takeoff of Cam'ron & Juelz Santana's "Hey Ma". "Holla" is a tasteless and simply lame track. One of the better tracks is "On My Own", a track where Do or Die talk about street life and loyalty. My favorite track on this one is the upbeat "Some Paper", the trio rhyme well over this laidback joint about overcoming obstacles, staying on the grind and making it in the game. The next couple tracks are okay, "Something Like A Playa" has the group recollecting on years past, while Bun B makes another appearance on the closer "I Wanna Be". "Get That Paper" won't be remembered as one of Do Or Die better works; to me they seem uninspired at times and lack originality. On their last joint they got talented Chi-Town artists like Kayne West and Twista to help out, I think they should do that for their next album.

Do or Die Fan4life,

I have always been a good fan to Do or Die. They have never received the recognition they deserved from their small singles "po pimp" "still po pimpin" "higher" and they have also made other great hits like "3am" "thats my car" "keep it real" "money flow",,, being from the chi, do or die has been awesome in the underground world. They should have put some of this work on "get that paper". It isnt the length that made this cd not up to par, because "picture this" was shorter, it was the lack of johnny p, twista, traxster's beats...they should definitely collab with psycho drama, snypaz, crucial conflict on their cd's rather than keeping that work underground
