5.0 out of 5 stars What I wish I had read before birthing!
Instead of wasting time on What to Expect and the Girlfriend's Guide, this is what women should be reading. We all put "no episiotomy" on our birth plans - now read exactly why and how to set yourself up for a birth without one.

I have read Ms. Bruce's works in other birth publications and this is a great guide. It is a quick read - but a must-read -...

1.0 out of 5 stars I didn't find it useful. Little information on preventing tearing
The book is somewhat out of date (written in 2001), since the medical evidence no longer supports episiotomy. Most of the book focuses on preventing episiotomy. I was looking for advice on how to prevent tearing, which is part of the title. There was little practical advice on preventing tearing. The advice is very general, and I didn't gain any additional knowledge from...

This short book would be a great primer for a first-time mom. Elizabeth Bruce touches on home, birth center & hospital birth & her down-to-earth style is refreshingly honest!

5.0 out of 5 stars Women must read !!, September 14, 2001
This review is from: Get Through Childbirth In One Piece!: How to Prevent Episiotomies and Tearing (Paperback)
Get Through Childbirth In One Piece is great reading material for any woman because it carries over into many areas of life other than just giving birth. Mrs. Bruce taught me so much valuable information in the childbirth class I took from her in Virginia. Her book reflects a great deal of research and she gives you all the wonderful experience with her four births. She tells you how to not be afraid to let your Doctor know your wishes and how to really plan your birth. A must book for any mother to be and any woman who dares to take control of her birth. Mrs. Shakely

I was not expecting a lot out of this book, but was I surprised! There is no mumbo-jumbo new age writing here. There are no flowery advice or beating around the bush (the book is about 100 pages). Some stories are heartbreaking--women are told to hurry up or worse, that they don't know what they're talking about. This book has made me more determined to go with a natural, episiotomy-free birth. Pain is a given, but I'm going to re-read it a few weeks before I deliver.

A friend suggested that I read a book by a childbirth expert and Get Through Childbirth In One Piece was the book I read. Elizabeth shares stories of other women who have their children at home. I want to thank Mrs. Bruce for writing this perfect book for women like me who want all the best up-to-date facts about childbirth. Rhonda Kent
