Book Description

January 31, 2005
This is a constructive and down-to-earth guide to all the milestones you face in your twenties - first job, debt, considering pensions, redundancy, buying a place or renting, moving in together - and how to deal with them. Get It Together is structured in four parts - Work, Money, Housing and Relationships - and examines the problems they raise as well as providing lists of resources, helpful advice, and answers to the some of the questions most affecting people in their twenties - and beyond: How do you negotiate pay in your first job? Do you have to have a pension or should you just sell a kidney to buy a flat? How much debt is too much? and is it possible to be terminally single? After surviving his own quarterlife crisis, and interviewing hundreds of others in the same situation, Damian Barr has written a practical, reassuring and funny guide to sorting yourself out in your wilderness years.

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny, funny, funny, August 6, 2005

The is a painstakingly practical book from a gifted, highly amusing writer. Although I am exactly twice the age of the intended readers, I found it splendid and have recommended it to twentysomethings adrift in this understudied stage of life.

5.0 out of 5 stars funny, endearing, and a good kick-in-the-pants, July 25, 2005
By
This review is from: Get It Together (Paperback)
Damian Barr is a very engaging writer -- self-deprecating, smart, hilarious, and wiser than his quarter-life years. For anyone who's ever thrown a self-help book at the wall and yelled, "Who made YOU mayor?" this book is a breath of fresh air. Not that this is self-helpy, though... it's part memoir, part advice, part story-telling, and always entertaining. Get it together and get this book (or rather, vice versa).

Barr gets it, and we're better for it. "Get It Together" explained it all, and helped me make sense of it. A great book for everyone you know hitting their quarterlife.
