Madonna's 3rd single off Confessions, Get Togther is an apt follow-up to Sorry. Reminiscent of Stardust's Music Sounds Better With You in production, the track is progressive electronic with a pumping bassline.
However, as with the recent Madonna remixes, the maxi-single is severely dismal. Stuart Price's production may be commanding on Confessions but his remixes of the three Madonna singles have been lacklustre so far compared to his stellar work for Goldfrapp, The Killers and Coldplay. The Danny Howells and Dick Trevor Kinky Fun Mix is really neither kinky nor orgamsic at all, relying on repetitive beats to produce a generic dancefloor club mix. Then come the slightly more interesting mixes from revered remixers Tiefschwarz and James Holden. However, the two remixes are a complete departure from the original tune. Tiefschwarz manages to infuse more futurism into the song, giving it a slight Kraftwerk edge. James Holden's remix held great promise at the beginning but gets tiresome after a whole 8 minutes of repeated electronic blooping (read: irritating). The I Love New York remix by Stuart Price finally recovers some lost ground with a rather rocked-up version of the original. And the original cover of the maxi-single is hideous if you do come to see it. The video has just premiered but it's just Madonna performing the song live superimposed against a futuristic animated background. If Warner Brothers (and Madonna) know what they are doing to the recent Madonna releases and promotional blitz, they'd have some inkling that they are doing everything wrong or not doing anything well at all. Such a wasted opprotunity for an excellent track.

Broad range of mixes...,

TRACKLIST:
1. GET TOGETHER (Album Version) 5.15 2. GET TOGETHER (Jacques Lu Cont Mix) 6.18 3. GET TOGETHER (Danny Howells & Dick Trevor KinkyFunk Mix) 9.13 4. GET TOGETHER (Tiefschwarz Remix) 7.34 5. GET TOGETHER (James Holden Remix) 8.00 6. I LOVE NEW YORK (Thin White Duke Mix) 7.43 The problem with most club mixes these days is that they rip the melody out of each piece of music and you need to be on some mind altering substance to "appreciate" them. Most of the mixes retain the original melodic structure of the song while expanding the arrangements. The biggest sonic departure is the Jacques lu Cont mix. It starts with a very crunchy and jangly guitar line and builds from there. It will remind those familiar with the full album of "I Love New York". In all honesty, I don't really consider the last two mixes to be mixes at all. They sound like completely different songs and there's very little of Madonna in them. I don't really understand why the record companies allow remixers to sorta forget that the song is about the artist. The version of "I Love New York" isn't too different from the album mix. It just pumps up the dance aspect of the song a couple notches and adds some filters and sweeps to the general mix. Very nicely done.

Not Worth the [...]Pricetag...,
This review is from: Get Together (Audio CD)
I am a reasonably big fan of Madonna. I bought 'Confessions' the day it dropped in November and went twice to see her on the tour in New York City, both of which were such amazing, absolutely incredible nights that I am absolutely thrilled she is in talks for an NBC special to bring the show to network television this fall.
Nevertheless, I cannot honestly recommend this CD single at all. Don't get me wrong, the 'Confessions' album is an awesome spectacle from start-to-finish, and the remixes for "Hung Up" and "Sorry" are just awesome. The Bill Hamel and Pet Shop Boys remixes of the former and Paul Oakenfold's remix of the latter are so awesome that they equal or even arguably surpass the fun of the originals. Thus it is all the more dissapointing that the remixes of "Get Together" are as terrible as they are. Even the "Jacques Lu Cont Mix," which is named for the French alter ego of producer Stuart Bryce, who actually produced the original 'Confessions' album, is nothing special, despite its rhythmic, quirky guitar work which sounds promising at first. Quickly something sounds wrong; this sounds like the kind of frothy, slightly above mid-tempo music that one can usually hear played in swanky, high-brow cocktail bars. That's right - lounge music. "Danny Howells & Dick Trevor KinkyFunk Mix" starts out to be more promising but quickly grows boring due to its meandering, lingering pace and only sparing use of vocals/lyrics. In fact, none of the remixes on the CD use Madonna's vocals enough at all. The remixes of "Hung Up" and "Sorry," however, did, and that was an important part of why they were so good. The "Tiefschwarz Remix" and "James Holden Remix" are even worse, since the former starts out with propulsive, frothy, initially promising dance beats but then never goes anywhere, while the latter is pure lounge music, complete with the sound of raindrops popping in and out. The I Love New York (Thin White Duke Mix) is also terrible. Also remixed by Stuart Bryce (Think White Duke is another one of his undercover monikers), this remix yet again does not feature enough Madonna and the beats simply take the song nowhere. Sure, you would probably dance to all of the songs on this CD if you were in a club and they came on. But for Madonna, they are terrible. And since they overall make minimal use of her vocals, it is doubly hard to find anything satisfying. Worst of all, the moment I heard "Get Together" I could not WAIT to hear remixes of it, and when I heard it would be a single I was so excited that I would. The original song, from beginning to end, spells "DANCE/POP CLASSIC." Imagine my dissapointment then when the remixes finally arrived in June and they were this terrible. With such an incredible song, one would think a remixer who knew what they were doing would not be able to mess it up, yet that is exactly what has happened. This CD is certainly not worth the $7.49 I paid on it. Let's hope Madonna goes back to Bill Hamel, Paul Oakenfold and Pet Shop Boys for the remixes of "Jump."

Nice Song, But Bad Remixes,
This review is from: Get Together (Audio CD)
Since becoming British, Madonna has not been the same artist and while I consider Confessions an album that clearly shows she is running out of ideas, "Get Together" has always been one of my favorite Madonna tracks. However, the remixes are awful. What happened? Madonna's remixes used to take her songs to a new level, but her recent remixes are flat. I really had high hopes for this song because the song is so interesting. Oh well, you can't be number one forever.

NICE SONG, AWFUL REMIXES...,

WELL, THINK OF THIS: SOMEONE SAID MADONNA: "HEY, CHOOSE THE WORST REMIXES YOU'VE EVER HEARD..." AND SO, THIS SINGLE WAS RELEASED...IT'S AMAZING HOW MADONNA COULD MAKE THIS...REALLY THESE VERSIONS ARE TERRIBLE, BAD, UGLY...EXCEPT THE "DANNY HOWELLS & DICK TREVOR REMIX. IT'S THE ONLY ONE DECENT TRACK ON THIS CD, IT'S DANCEABLE, AND CLUB FRIENDLY. BUT DON'T GO TO THE "JAMES HOLDEN MIX" IT'S REALLY BAD. ALL THE SONG LONG AN ANNOYING BUMPING SOUND PLAYS TIME AFTER TIME. WHERE ARE THE VICTOR CALDERONE, SASHA'S, JUNIOR VAZQUEZ', THUNDERPUSS'COOL REMIXES? WELL MAYBE MADONNA IS SO BELIEVED TO BE THE BEST , THAT SHE'S PUTTING LESS EFFORT ALBUM AFTER ALBUM...

How to ruin a perfect song in few easy steps...,
By Simon (Quebec, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Get Together (Audio CD)
I bought at least 40 of her cd-singles over the years, but she's starting to lose me. Get Together is my favorite song on COADF and I was really looking forward to this release, but she seems to be losing her touch at picking up her remixers. The remixes proposed here are not doing any justice to the wonderful song that is GT. Extended versions, or less experimental club remixes, would have done the job perfectly. Unfortunately, she seems to have a taste for lazy egocentric djs on drugs... who incorporate some of her lyrics to their usual boring, undanceable stuff, and call this a remix. Thank God, there ARE better remixes of GT to be downloaded out there (still, when unofficial white label remixes are better than the commercial releases, there's a problem...) The JLC remix (track 2), with its repetitive guitar strings, is irritating and unfit. The Tiefshwarz take (track 4) is a pathetic excuse for a remix; the bassline is listenable, but don't expect any melodic structure. The James Holden remix (5) is a joke, a really bad one. The Danny Howell remix (track 3) is the only decent remix, but still. Nothing compared to the killer club anthems she delivered in recent years (for Don't Tell Me, Music, Hollywood, etc.) The Sorry single was way better than this, with at least three powerful remixes that gave the song a fairly refreshing spin. Even the GT video is aweful, the worst of her career (footage of her singing live with meaningless animated graphics...). We're entitled to expect more from Madonna because we KNOW she can do way better than this. Maybe next time.

Real dissapointing...such Terrible Remixes!,

Get Together is a real good song, but when I heard those remixes on it, and I bought this US Import - I thought ohh my god, absolutely terrible, some of the worst remixes especially the James Holden Remix is the worst, but the others on this Single couldn't convince me at all either! - Why didn't Madonna worked with the same people again as on the real good Remixes on the former Sorry Single, or gave it to some real good DJ's like Peter Rauhofer for example - A real mystery, only Madonna knows - Though the quite good I LOVE NEW YORK Dub makes up for a bit there, but its sadly not enough. What a shame for such a good song from Confessions, only hope there be either a part 2 to it or new Remixes to download, as I heard already parts of these on the Net, which are way better, than these so boring bad remixes...Lets hope, but for this single as many mention, I see only 2 Stars, where I normaly give 5...What a shame!

I'd Rather Stay Alone...,

Get Together, a dramatic choice as third single, made a hugh beat up tone and one of the best songs on the album but not as good as Hung Up or Jump. Get Together goes from soft dance trip to a very vocal track. Madonna is good at the song but hey, the song isn't a very single prototype. The remixes are ok but still average compared to previous singles. Hung Up remixes are classic and Sorry's were more dance tracks but this goes on formula and Madonna's songs are very good to explore with. The single is not bad but could have been better.

Coming off of the AMAZING "Sorry" remixes, this set of remixes from "Confessions on a Dance Floor" was sort of a letdown. I listened to the maxi-CD once and that was enough- nothing too inspired here...

Madonna and these Remixers should have never gotten together!,

This review is from: Get Together (Audio CD)
I must admit that white label remixers have done better work on such a great album's tracks than these "top notch" remixers. Consider those white label remixes by Cleopatra and Hitmixers and these official dubs fall flat. I have even heard a high energy mashup of "Get Together" and Stardust's "Music Sounds Better With You" making the release of this maxi-single unecessary. It's true: Danni Howell's remix of "Get Together" is the only worthwhile version on such a good single. The rest are plain uninteresting. It's a cd single obsolete for club disc jockeys. Nevertheless, I'm glad that the remixes for "Sorry" and "Hung Up" did not have the same fate. Consider this single experimental and forgive the record company, but it's not quite needed if you are not a Madonna completist.
