A Bright Future,
By
This review is from: Get Up (Audio CD)
This girl has a bright future ahead of her. If you enjoy the works of other artists such as Erykah Badu or Sade, Amel Larrieux is definitely someone you should keep an eye out for. This is urban contemporary music at it's finest. The only thing that prevented me from giving this cd 5 stars is its inclusion of only 2 tracks. Perhaps Epic will eventually release a maxi-single with a few remixes or a non-album track. At this time however, there are no other options. Anyhow, be sure to check-out her debut solo album coming out in January 2000. I just hope that she gets the recognition and praise she deserves.

Great single,

Promising, and long awaited, comeback from the former half of 1995's now disbanded Groove Theory. "Get Up" is ladened with modern funk and urban enlightenment. Be sure to check for her album "Infinite Possibilities."

Amel... What can I say?,
By Brian (SF Bay Area, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Get Up (Audio CD)
I've been waiting for Amel's solo joint since I first heard "Tell Me" back about 5 years ago in my junior year in college. Since then, her voice has carried me through the day and eased me to sleep on countless occasions. Her voice maneuvers so effortlessly that her talent often goes without notice. While so many other female vocalists often attempt to overpower the mic and display vocal range, Amel is more concerned with embracing it and making the listener feel the words through enticing harmonies and ill improvisations. I hope now that Amel has come of her own and is now dropping her solo project, heads will realize that she is just about the best out there in terms of vocal seduction as well as just straight up blessing the listener with lovely, head-nodding, thought provoking joints. Much love, Amel.

The Voice We've All Been Waiting To Hear....Again,
By Heather (austin, texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Get Up (Audio CD)
That voice, that look, did I mention that voice? If you've heard this song then you know what I'm talking about, right? The lead singer of 'Groove Theory' is doing her solo thang and, well...it's about time! Originally released on 550 Music back in October of 99, no word as-of-yet on when the full length album will be out. With labelmates like Ginuwine, Jon B, Celine Dion, Des'Ree and Vonda Sheppard (that weird-voiced lady from Ally McBeal)....I'd have to say that Miss Amel is the best thing to happen to 550 Music yet! This one will definetly be playing on repeat at my house for New Year's Eve.

Truth,
By derrick (Atlanta) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Get Up (Audio CD)
"Get up" is surely indicative of what Amel's talent evoked in the past for listeners of songs of hers like "alright," "you will rise," and "keep trying." The song cleverly cuts close to what real people go through. Her flavor is purely inspirational and reminiscent of quality sound that is easily loved because of its truth. There is not one active artist on the charts who compliments the adjective "smooth" so powerfully. All faithful listeners of Amel's have waited patiently through soundtracks and other works just to get a taste of a vibe that is greatly appreciated. Can't wait for the album!

Her voice is very distinctive. I have always admired her style in singing when she was with the group "Groove Theory". I love "Get Up", it gives me the chance to interpret it in any way that I choose. I will be so excited when her Cd is relesed.

Amil's musical style is original and full of new wave smooth tones & jazzy beats that reminds me of acid jazz on the smooth tip.

I've only seen the video and I must have it. SMOOTH! The groove made me close my eyes, smile, and start to move with the beat. I was sold right then and there.
