5.0 out of 5 stars Can't keep a good man down...., May 17, 2008

The first time I heard Amos Garrett was way back in high school listening to 8 tracks like his Bearsville mates Foghat, Todd Rundgren and of course Paul Butterfield and Maria's debut and thinking how hip am I that I "get" Amos and you know what I still think that now that I am 53....Joe Henry is the only cat that I've dug since that rivets me in my seat like that hanging on every twist and turn of the song...I have other favorite artists like Ronnie Lane, The Replacements, Steely Dan, Jeff Beck, Rory Gallagher, Delbert McClinton, Dr.Feelgood, Bonnie and Maria but Amos is just special and I for one am eternally grateful that he is still around. The chance of seeing him live is slim to none here in New Jersey so Dave Perry signing off with a smile listening to Amos and his darn guitar!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great match of artist and material, August 1, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I noticed the prior review said nothing about the disc, so I hope this helps . . .

Amos Garrett sings in a laid-back world-weary voice - perfect for the material of Percy Mayfield. Also, Amos' guitar is extremely tasteful - always playing the right note and with twists and turns that no one else really hits. Overall, he is a potent package and this material sounds like it was written by Percy specifically for this session. The band is right on, and everything comes together. This is not rock, and there will be guitar fans who will write that Amos isn't doing anything - but real blues fans know better. Amos is a treasure and, in my opinion, his albums have not been this fully realized. This is my favorite!

If anyone knows Amos, suggest that he do a Charles Brown tribute next!

To wrap up: a great match of singer to song, approriate guitar tone and licks, a sympathetic band, and great production add up to a winner. Fans of Percy, Charles Brown, Floyd Dixon, Nat Cole's Trio will love this.
