Get Well Soon- Starvations,
By Ric Raciné (London) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Get Well Soon (Audio CD)
This is one of the best Punk Albms your likely to hear, pure quality from start to finish. A must have album for anyone with a soul: visceral and emotionally expressive vocals swimming through heavily textured tunes that carry you away like a night of excess-sing along to jar the memories and enjoy reliving every sweat dreanched moment.

best Gun Club cover band ever,

i saw these dudes rock out at SXSW 2003 on the GSL showcase. they own. the Gun Club and Pogues are obvious points of reference. The Starvations basically sound like the long lost early 80's LA roots rock punk band that you never heard of. X, The Blasters, The Flesh Eaters, Gun Club, The Zippers, and Los Lobos would all be proud that their legacy lives on in this band.

This a great rock band from LA whose sound is a fantastic collage of the Pogues, Gun Club, and 16 Horsepower: The drunken dispair and bravado of the Pogues, the intensity and rawness of the Gun Club, with the haunting tortured vocals reminicisent of Eugene Edwards from 16 Horsepower. The accordian is awesome. Get this album and see them live if they come to your area. The Starvations deliver.

one of the better albums released this year,

where to start. THANK YOU FOR THIS ALBUM! ok, now that's out of the way, the starvations are bluesey, ragged, outlaw, emotional, tingely rock n roll phenomena that burrows its way into your soul. gabe's vocals are pain stricken and their music has lots of slide guitar in it, so you could say their music has a country influence to it. i like this album more than "a blackout...". for those of you who are looking for something out of the ordinary and you don't mind a little country, this is for you. this may be an extension to "one long night," but better. there is a greater variety in the songs and the addition of vanessa to the band is essential. now they are complete. not since the pogues has the accordian sounded so sweet.
