Golf's Hidden Secret,
By John Flynn (Belgrade MN, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Get Yourself in Golf Shape :Year-Round Drills to Build a Strong Flexible Swing (Paperback)
I've read a lot of instructional books (Hogan, Flick, Leadbetter, etc.). They all make it clear what you need to do to strike the ball well, but it doesen't matter if you know what to do mentally if your body can't get you there. Cindy's book is fantastic. I've been using it for about a month, and I've never hit the ball so well. The best thing about her approach is that once you start getting your muscles in "golf shape" you don't have to think when you're over the ball. The training program provides you with all of that much talked about (but seldom acheived) correct muscle memory. Here's how I know this is the real deal. Every other instruction technique I've ever used worked fine until I got to my driver, but after follwing Reid's program I've felt comfortable (and getting much better results) with the driver. Her system works. I also like it because, unlike other golf exercise programs I've tried, Cindy doesn't just give you one routine and expect you to do the same thing day after day. It's an 11 day program with something different every day. You won't be in "golf shape" in 11 days, but you simply start a new cycle over again once you've completed the 11 day program. In addition, the fact that she ties the program to individual positions is a great motivator. You can work on the "one piece takeway" without leaving the cofines of your home, and the best thing about it is that by doing the exercises you know you're working out the correct muscles to accomplsh the task (instead of going to the driving range, repeating the same bad swing, and developing incorrect muscle memmory). If you want to improve your game get "Golf Shape" today.

Great help for beginners,
By Sharon (Joliet, IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Get Yourself in Golf Shape :Year-Round Drills to Build a Strong Flexible Swing (Paperback)
I am a beginner "older" golfer and didn't feel in very good shape for golfing. The muscles used for the golf swing are very different than what we usually use. This book was excellent for showing me stretches to get my body in shape. What I especially like about it is that it also gives really good golf tips as well as staying in shape tips. I highly recommend it for anyone just starting out golfing or experienced golfers as well.

As an ACE-certified personal trainer who has no knowledge of golf with a client interested in improving their golf game, this book was very helpful to me. It not only showed me what steps a golfer needs to make for set-up, swing, etc., it also showed me exercises to specifically help in each step. The book shows how to perform these sports-specific exercises and tells me why my client needs to do them.

Golf Specific Workout Circuit,
By rodboomboom (Dearborn, Michigan United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER)
This review is from: Get Yourself in Golf Shape :Year-Round Drills to Build a Strong Flexible Swing (Paperback)
We've learned that our bodies after awhile get used to same exercises and so diminishing returns creep in. This golf specific trainer has developed a circuit oriented training schedule specifically targeted for golf muscles and conditioning them.
One needs to invest in some equipment or have it available at workout facility, i.e. physioball, medicine ball, resistance bands, soccer ball, dumbbells, etc. The investment for these is not large, but is necessary to do most of these. Also, some of the exercises look to an appartus found in gym settings where pully resistance machines are available. The cycle of eleven days has some rest in it, and room for golf and cardiovascular work which is nice. The rotation has increasing rep schedules and stepped up exercises on many of the stretches. There is also a great pre-round stretch routine, as well as some recommened range drills. Good photo illustrations and instructions add greatly to the usability. For most all golfers this is great workout routine, and results will follow after your first eleven day cycle, and multiply after continuous recycling.

This is an excellent book with easy to understand descriptions and explanations reinforced with photographs. There's an 11 day program that I've been following, hoping it would help my golf game. Wow! I was only on day 3 of the program and seeing improvements in my drives - they're longer and straighter. My husband repeatedly said "Wow" and said I was starting to out-drive him! I told him that maybe he should start doing the 11 day program also. There's excellent drills and stretches that should be incorporated into a daily routine. I highly recommend this book for getting into "golf shape".

This review is from: Get Yourself in Golf Shape: Exercise Drills to Build a Strong Swing in the Off-Season and Through the Year (Paperback)
This book came highly recommended by a friend who has re-kindled a passion for golf. Too many well meaning "experts" have laid the foundation of confusion, with other obligations reducing the available time to get comfortable with a consistent swing. Get Yourself In Golf Shape is helping stabilize my approach, re-teach my body to play more consistently and enjoy the inadequate time I have to play a game I love. I'm saving myself money and avoiding frustration by not seeking the counsel of a "pro" which requires more time, practice and patience; commodities I have in short supply.

This review is from: Get Yourself in Golf Shape :Year-Round Drills to Build a Strong Flexible Swing (Paperback)
I am an older, beginning golfer and this was exactly what I was looking for. As the other positive reviews indicate, the book is organized around parts of the swing and there is a great mix of strength and flexibility exercises. Each section explains how the exercises will help improve the swing. An added bonus is Reid's discussion of the swing. I found some of her discussions of the nature of the swing and how to achieve a proper swing to be some of the best explanations I have read. I was initially intimidated by the idea of an 11 day program, but each day has a reasonable mix of exercises that one could get through without making a major time commitment at the gym; most of the stretching exercises and some of the strength exercises can be done in normal settings without equipment.

This item arrived quickly and in good condition. The exercises in this book would improve play for more golfers than most if not all 'how to' books on the market. Great book!
