5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a fresh, new sound!
Like a cross between Beck and G.Love, these guys have a fresh soulful groove with a an original sound that is all their own. I especially liked "Chocolate" and " Does My Color Scare You". I'm picky about my music, but I HIGHLY recommend this CD.

3.0 out of 5 stars funky grooves
I bought this album after seeing these guys, who hail from Norway, opening for DMB in '98. They put on an energetic, quirky performance which this album captures nicely. Full of funky rhythms and upbeat tunes, it's lots of fun to listen to and carries the distinguishing quality of being a bit out of the ordinary in the delivery of both its lyrical message and its music...

They're like the Average White Band of the 90s. Soulful grooves, hip lyrics, cool melodies. Awesome album!

I love the Getaway People's debut album. Their style caught my eye when they opened for Barenaked Ladies this November, and I have been hooked ever since. Their music is brimming with funk and soul and listening to their CD just puts me in such a great mood. You have to try them!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars You can't go wrong., July 24, 2000

Don't worry about that frustrated feeling you get when you've just blown money on bad music. There's not a bad cut on this disc. It's socially conscious, easy to listen to, and above all, fun.

Every cut on this record is good enough for repeated listens. "Chocolate", "Mr. E", and "Get a Handle On It" are particularly good. Getaway People is worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars It rarely leaves the player, April 2, 1999

This is such a good album. I picked it up from a listening booth and I NEVER buy stuff from these. Why are these guys not better known? They have a refreshing, truly imaginative style and produce a modern funky sound with lots of reggae influence. Its cool. Thoughtful lyrics too. They have a message and its a million miles from "I'm going to shoot your ass". You'd never guess that these guys are as white as snow. Hell, they are Norwegian!

You just gotta listen to a couple of tracks - really.

Enjoy Matthew

This CD is absolutely excellent. There's not a bad track on it. It's pretty funky and a good one to sing along to (if you're alone!), dance to or chill to. For some reason I find I can't listen to it more than twice in a row though.

I picked this one up out of the cut out bins for a buck. Pretty good white boy Hip-Hop, if that's your thing. Similar in style in tone to The Stereo MCs. Sometimes compared to Beck, but they really are closer to Everlast (at least in his currant incarnation). The songs are groovy and laid back, with fairly good politically correct lyrics, especially `Does My Colour Scare You', `Get A Handle On It' and `Mr. E'. I gave my copy away. B-

Yo, this is Riot, comin' off of tha Duke City, and i'd like to be respected as the jaded, seen tha Show, got the album clickin' in my ears. got their autograph, waited for tha new album, danka goin' off to show the world why the Get. people jam so hard. the radio sellouts can kick it 'cause these boys don't need tha MTV to make them darlin', they just rock out an' gain followin' everywhere. Buy the C.D., hit the pit at their shows an' give em props for showing you that not all rock is dead, 'cause somewhere in europe, it's still beatin crazy, sicked out by tha group from Norway.
