Love Conquers All,
By Janet West Sellars "Author, Quiet As It's Kept" (Newport News, VA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gets No Love (Paperback)
One of the things that struck me about Gets No Love is its portrayal of strong black love. The title, notwithstanding, love is demonstrated throughout this fast-paced pageturner at varying degrees. All too often we hear about black men walking all over their women. Rarely does one find a story written about a black man who, in spite of past mistakes, recognizes the value of having love in his life, at any cost. Eric demonstrates with intense realism, the true meaning of friendship in his portrayal of the relationship between Lance and AK; men who love each other like brothers. Lance is also a man's man, who will do what must be done to be with the love of his life, Valerie. Seems like such a simple concept, yet Eric weaves a tale that brings the past head-on with the present, sometimes violently so. Gets No Love is not without action, humor, drama, and eroticism, all the things we've come to love and expect from the talented Mr. Pete. However, it is quite refreshing to see through all of that and get to the heart of the matter: love can conquer all and Eric gets a lot of love for this one. A fabulous read!

Eric Pete keeps it movin' and entertaining with this steamy tale of sex, friendship and romance and the complicated ways they can intersect. You can't escape the past,
By Nothing BUT Page Turners "Book Club" (East Orange, New Jersey) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gets No Love (Paperback)
I agree with the Spotlight reviewer. The first sentence, "The smell of gunpowder burned my nostrils while I tried to stop the bleeding." lets you know something's about to get ugly. The first sentence of Gets No Love had me glued to the pages until page 288.
Lance and Akhet found themselves in all kinds of trouble growing up in New Orleans. As they matured, they both consciously tried to outgrow their "bad boy" image. Lance is a computer tech and Akhet is a hip hop rapper. Though life seems to have turned out well for Lance and Akhet, the past is still lurking with a dreadful secret that hunts Akhet's continuously. Akhet's is soon fed up and on day takes matters into his own hand. Lance is dealing with his own problems of feeling the void in his life from losing his ex-fiancé, Valerie, and goes through loops and hurdles to win her back. Gets No Love is a well-written tale filled with action, more action, drama, sex, lust, lies, and most importantly, love. Eric Pete shows that it isn't easy to do right even when you know you should, even when you know it can better your life. Rolanda, Nothing BUT Page Turners Book Club

Emotional Rollercoaster of a read...,
By
This review is from: Gets No Love (Paperback)
Quite the emotional rollercoaster of a read. The characters are so well fleshed out that you feel as if you know them. Despite their imperfections, you keep hoping for the best for them. The fact that the characters are from all walks of life keeps the story from having that myopic 'youth-only' view that so many so-called hip-hop stories seem to have. I look forward to reading more from this young author.

Can I Get Some Love?,
By
This review is from: Gets No Love (Paperback)
Eric Pete's newest edition to the contemporary fiction scene, Gets No Love, is a classic example of reaping what you sow. In my opinion, his best work to date, this book packs substance in the form of redemption.
Lance, a former bad boy turned current computer technician, who was stood up at the altar by the love of his life, goes about his daily life trying his best to stay out of the game but methodically gets sucked back in, all in the name of friendship. Lance's plan to win Val back is thwarted by several obstacles but is intriguing to read. Akhet is an up and coming rap star and best friend to Lance. He has a secret, or so he thought, that prevents him from being all that he could be. As I was reading I often thought, "can these brothers get a break". While appealing to the hip-hop generation, this latest installment by Pete can appeal to others because each character has a role to play and Pete demonstrates the ability to keep each role separate yet unique with their raw and gritty street vernacular to the proper grammar structure. His descriptions of New Orleans are vivid and the characters style of dress is on point with their personality. From the blue-collar worker to the street thugs to the record mogul to Mom and Dad to the sweet and invincible girl Lance wants to marry, Pete exhibits a flair for storytelling. Reviewed by Dawn R. I read this in one sitting!,
By Ki (Houston, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gets No Love (Paperback)
I had moved out of the contemporary fiction stage of my life but picked the book up on the advice of a friend. It was fabulous! I was engrossed from beginning to end. The characters are real and have believable dialogue and interaction. Each has their own story that you want to know more about. But the way Eric weaves their lives all together without getting things all messy is ingenious. The story gives us mystery, love gained and lost, committed friendships between males, females and the opposite sexes, drama, romance, intimacy, humor, culture, joy and pain...let me stop here!! Just know that this book may be pulling me back in to the genre of contemporary fiction and I have Eric Pete to thank for that!!

When Love Isn't Enough,
By
This review is from: Gets No Love (Paperback)
New Orleans, Louisiana is the backdrop for Eric E. Pete's latest work of fiction, Gets No Love. Lance is owner of a thriving computer business. As far as he's concerned, the only thing missing in his life is his ex-fiancé, Valerie, who called off their wedding the night before because of something Lance did with her best friend. But was Lance really to blame or is Valerie harboring a secret of her own?
Lance is on a quest to win her back. Being the true friend that he is, Lance is caught up in a tangled web of lies with his best friend Akhet a.k.a. AK, an ex-thug turned local rap star. AK is trying to motivate Lance to carry on as he isn't that fond of Valerie anyway and hopes that his childhood friend can get over her. Lance evolved from his bad boy persona to become a respectable business owner and is very supportive of Akhet's career. But the deadly secret he and Lance share haunts Akhet. With unsettled issues from their past, the friends will have to learn that before you can start on the future, you have to put the past to rest. Will this lesson prove too much for either of them? Filled with action, drama, sex, lies and lust and above all, plenty of love, Gets No Love, will capture the readers and keep them turning the pages until the very end. There are lessons to be learned too, and they are that trust and honesty will take you far, and there's nothing better than a true friend who will be there in good times as well as the bad.
