Great history of a 100+ year old family company,
By A Customer
This review is from: The A. Gettelman Brewing Company: one-hundred and seven years of a family brewery in Milwaukee (Paperback)
This book, featuring photos and facsimiles of documents, documents not only the Gettelman Brewing Co., but the brewing industry as a whole, especially in and around Milwaukee. Ms. Gettelman expertly weaves the text with the pictures and weaves the socio-cultural context throughout the history of her family's brewery. Anyone fascinated with brewing history will want to read this book!

This review is from: The A. Gettelman Brewing Company: One-hundred and seven years of a family brewery in Milwaukee (Hardcover)
A great coffee table book about the history of the A. Gettelman Brewery in Milwaukee. Although, not well remembered now, Gettelman was one of the major regional players in the early part of the 20th century. Cobbled together using interviews, memoirs, private photos and newspaper clippings, this book gives a great overview on the brewery and the brewing industry in Milwaukee during it's prime. Good read for anyone interested in the history of American breweries or Milwaukee history.

I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my mother. Her father was a Gettelman but not a close relative of the brewers. She was amazed such a book existed. The book itself is well put together and is an excellent history of the company and the people who put it together.
My only complaint is that it is out of print and thus expensive. A great candidate for print on demand re-printing. |
