Jill Scott is a great new artist that has talents beyond that of most singers. Jill Scott sings about real life stories that actually have serious meaning, and I have never really liked that in an artist because I like simple fun songs, but I think Jill Scott is really unique. Jill Scott not only talented in singing but she also is a great writer, and wrote her songs. Jill Scott may seam like the type of artist that wouldn't release remixes, but the ones she realeased are fabulous.Track Listing: 1.) Gettin' In The Way - Original Version (3:56) = This is the hot original version, I like this song because it has so much meaning to it. 2.) Gettin' In The Way - (MJ Cole Remix) (6:03) = This remix is just not long enough, if you are thinking this version is like that of the causual original than think again. This remix is somewhat of a dance remix with R&B flares, you can not hate on this remix, this remix is by far my favorite. 3.) Gettin' In The Way - (Live) (4:16) = This live version is just as good as that of the original recorded version. The beat is changed a lot from the original version but still sound great. The beat is more jazzy like, but I think that is great for different crouds. 4.) Gettin' In The Way - (Video) (3:28) = This is the great video were you get to see Jill tell this girl off because that girl wants her man. The video comes in different formats, so it should be compatable with most computers. Jill Scott's music is so great that I think she deserved to win a grammy, but she didn't but there is always next year. Check this out, it comes with the video, a remix, a live version, it comes with the works, you can't lose out.

Jill Scott has quickly become one of my favorate artist. Her songs are unlike most of the main streem artist. Her lyrics seems to be spiritually, emotionally and mentally centered. A quality that seems to be lacking in the music industry today. We are forced to listen to songs that lack personal respect and respect for our fellow man each time we turn on the radio these days. As her song "you're getting in my way" lyrics attemps to defuse issues between women regarding their place in a man's life, to me in some ways negate what's now typical songs about women taking other women's men and the negitivity those types of songs evoke. I am looking forward to more of Jill scott's work.

Hitting airwaves in the summer of 2000, Gettin' in the Way introduced songstress/spoken word artist Jill Scott to the music scene. Over a smooth jazzy backdrop, Jilly lets her man's ex-girlfriend know that she's out of line for her antics and it has to stop. "Sister girl, I know you don't understand/But you gon' have to understand he's my man now/What you had is gone/Our thing is sweet/Our thing is stronger than any lie you can tell on me ... He let you go a long time ago/Now it's time to turn him loose." She has to up the ante since the chick's not getting the message. "Sugar honey girl, fly, fly away/I been a lady up til' now/Don't know how much more I can take/Queens shouldn't swing if you know what I mean/But I'm 'bout to take my earrings off/Get me some Vaseline!" That and the threat of "I'm gon' take you out in the middle of the street and whoop yo tail/For all it's worth/5.99 or something like that!" should do the trick.
The best thing about the song is that it takes the tired "I'ma beat you down cuz he's my man!" stereotype on its head and takes it in a more refreshing direction. Jill's not looking for a fight, but she's certainly not about to be disrespected. The MJ Cole remix adds in a dance beat that livens up the original's cool tempo with great success. Be sure to check out the video. Shot in Jill's North Philly neighborhood, the diva receives a curt call from her guy's ex and marches right over to her place to tell her off. Everyone from the fellas playing dominoes on the corner to the women hanging out on their porches get a front row viewing of the smackdown Jilly's nemesis gets. Love it!

Purchased this CD based on tracks heard on the radio. This CD is so much more. She introduces herself by making herself familiar to you. She takes you through issues and nuances often experienced by many. You can feel her emotion, in love and in rejection. Even in rejection, she rebounds in a way in which she retains respect for and to herself. She is forgiving and not self-destructing. Truly a beautiful CD!
