I am a late-in-life bass player learning to "get around the bass" and have found this book to encompass the perfect combination of theory, technique and fun that I was hoping to find.

Josh has applied his very special energy and talent to creating a "one-size fits all" tutorial that will be valued by beginners as well as experienced musicians.

Well-produced, this large book is ring-binder in format which enables one to place it easily on a music stand or table. Beautifully composed, it is packed with advice, technique, and musical exercises.

This is the one to have in your guitar case!

This is a terrific, practical, personable guide--reminds me of manuals that have become minor classics: the Compleat Idiots Guide to VW Maintenance, the Curtis Creek Manifesto on a Fly Fishing, the Natural Way to Draw by Nicolaides. This should be a hidden classic of bass guitar literature.

"Getting Around The Bass" is easily the clearest, most easily comprehendible bass book I've ever read. Not only is it exhaustive in its approach to and instruction of the bass, but it is. Written by a highly knowledgeable veteran of the bass, this book avoid the pitfalls of many of its predecessors; it is easy to follow, but is also packed full of knowledge. It incorporates music theory, but does so in an applicable, innovative way.

This book is a perfect accompaniment to Needleman's lessons, but it is easy enough to follow that one wouldn't have difficulty learning from it on their own.

With just a cursory glance, one can easily tell that "Getting Around The Bass" is far more intuitive than any other instructional bass book to date.

This book is very useful for bassists of all ages and levels. If you're a beginner, you'll benefit from the gradual process in which you learn practical theory, scales as well as general exercises. More advanced players can benefit from reviewing the material in the book and it also provides a nicely laid out teaching ciriculum for bass instructors. Also, isn't it nice to finally have a bass guitar book that isn't too short or skip over important details? If you want to know bass, get this book.

I was lucky enough to get a copy before it sold out. This is a great book! Finally I have something that lays out all the basics and advanced techniques in an easy to read and easy to follow manner. So much better than the other big name bass books I bought that were light on meat and heavy on fluff. This is a must have for any bass player who wants to get better, regardless of their skill level! Well done Josh!!
