5.0 out of 5 stars Very Informative and Fun to Read!, April 5, 2000
By
This review is from: Getting Commitment at Work: A Guide for Managers and Employees (Paperback)
I loved this book. I just happened to find this book while browsing other related books, and I am really glad I picked it up. There are 3 sections in this book, each with about 3 chapters, dealing with different career scenarios. The first section deals with the hiring process - how to get commitment from the first handshake. The second section talks about getting what you need daily on the job. The third section talks about company changes - mergers, new acquisitions, etc - and how to stay "on top" through all the changes. Since commitment is a two-way street between a manager and an employee, this book is relevant and useful for everyone! I especially liked the 3 "stories" (scenarios) described in the 3 different sections of the book. You get to see the 2 sides of every interaction, from the manager's point of view and from the employee's point of view. This book opened my eyes to how miscommunications can easily occur. Even better, the book had excellent strategies for preventing these miscommunications and creating win-win situations for everyone. I have already applied some of what I've learned, and the strategies really do work!

5.0 out of 5 stars Putting Commitment Into a Unique Context, October 24, 2000

This review is from: Getting Commitment at Work: A Guide for Managers and Employees (Paperback)
"Getting Commitment at Work" typifies the creativity Mike Thomas shows in dealing with organizational issues. By writing it in the format of a play, Mike enables the reader to see the issues from the side of the employer as well as the employee. Since many of us are both, it has double impact.
