A book that makes you believe in love and friendship,
By stefmlewis@mailexcite.com (Los Angeles, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Getting to the Good Part (Hardcover)
I sat down to read this book wholeheartedly hoping that I would laugh as much as I did with Scenes from A Sistah. I was not disaapointed. Reesy and Misty share the love, courage, and friendship that I share with my bestfriend. I cried, I laughed, I smiled and I was not disappointed as these two women embraced life with enthusiasm and gusto. Reesy is a woman that you love one minute and hate the other...Misty has found what every woman looks for - "Prince Charming!" I only hope that I can find a Dandre in my life and in the end, Reesy gets a lesson in life. This book is a must read for all of those who believe that there is no such thing as forgiving, friendship, and love!! I read this book in 4 hours!!! Lolita Files is an excellent writer. Her book is easy to read, it's funny, and holds your attention from the first page untill the last. I can hardly wait for her new book. I have recommended this book to all of my friends and bought it as a gift for a few.

One of the worst things about writing a sequel is the author MUST make it as good as if not better than the first one. Ms. Files passed the test. I was happy that Reesy was our potaganist this time around and we were allowed to get into this WILD girl's head. At times I felt she was acting like a 22 year old rather than a 32 year old, but I was impressed with her development throughout the book. Inside her tough as nails "hand in your face" sister-girl deameanor, she was a very emotional and sensitive person. I literally cried tears with her as she discovered a love lost. Ms. Files did an EXCELLENT descriptive job of putting Reesy in touch with her feelings. There's not a woman out there who can't relate to this type of love and pain. It was emotionally real. We saw a different side of Misty in this story as well. Her character wasn't quite as developed as Reesy's, but her maturity was evident. I loved the way Ms. Files ended the book on a closed note, not leaving the readers looking for more. EXCELLENT is all I can say.

CAN'T PUT IT DOWN,

This book was captivating. I laughed from the first couple of pages with Reesy at the audition for the play so hard my sides hurt. This book was very well written, you just would never know with the book, but the part I liked most was the love that was shared between Dandre and Reesy I felt the passion and was glad they found their way back to each other again. A damn good book.

OUTSTANDING/EXCITING/JUST PLAIN GOOD!,
This review is from: Getting to the Good Part (Hardcover)
This book was not difficult to read, nor was it boring. I like the way Lolita took the point of view from Misty and changed it to Reesy in NY! Reesy has a very exciting life and I would love to see this book in a movie. I think Reesy Snowden got just what she deserved. Be careful what want and ask for, because you just may get it in more ways than one. She was very fortunate that her story had a promising ending. I was rooting for her throughout the entire book, but I was happen when she learned her lesson in the end. Dandre should be commended for being a stand-up brother and for being her knight in shining armor. Way to go Lolita! When is the next book coming out and is it Reesy and Misty or someone else? Great book and I highly recommend it to others who want an exciting read and to be a part of someone elses life for a little while!

Lolita girl, please tell me you are working on the sequel to "Getting...."!!! I read this book immediately after "Scenes....". This book was da bomb!!! I am sorry I read it so fast. I didn't want to leave from Misty's and Reesy's lives. I am recommending this book to all of my friends. I could relate to both Misty' and Reesy's lives and the trials and tribulations that they both went through. Lolita reinforced for us that sometimes we can live happily ever after and can find our Knight in Shining Armor! I also want to thank Ms. Lolita for taking me back to NY and making me feel like I was home due to the fact that I live in Maryland now. This book made me laugh, cry, and pray for the type of relationship shared between Misty and Reesy. Through thick and thin, happy and sad times, these two sistahs stuck together and helped each other through some rough times. These two was an example of true friendship that all sistahs need to take heed to. These two are definitely what the title"BEST FRIENDS" stands for. I can't want for Ms. Lolita's next book. Hopefully she's working on it as I type. One last thing, this book also shows us a valuable lesson that the battle is not ours it's the Lord's. You see, Reesy's revenge tactics backfired and she was the one hurt while trying to get revenge. I am happy that it had a happy ending though. Ms. Lolita, may God continue to bless you and keep the good books coming.

You have to read this book!,
This review is from: Getting to the Good Part (Paperback)
This book brought tears to my eyes, and smiles to my lips. It was very moving and easy to relate to all the characters on one level or another. The characters were for the most part very down to earth and each one of them has reminded me of someone I know. I enjoyed it a lot more than the Scenes From a Sistah, but you have to read Scenes first in order to fully understand the people and their dilemmas. I felt that I had grown with the characters, and knowing where they came from gave me a better picture of where they were going.

Good Until the Last Drop,
This review is from: Getting to the Good Part (Hardcover)
I loved this book. It was my first time reading Ms. Files. Her characters are fresh, honest, raw, and funny as hell. I loved Reesy and Misty. They remind me of some of my dearest and closest friends (and some of our hilarious situations). I thought the writing was excellent, and realistic. I laughed with these women and cried with them as i went on their journeys through love, life and friendship. I read the book in 2 days! I definitely have been made a fan and look forward to more of Ms. Files books and characters> This book is good to the last drop and you want to savor the flavor over and over again.

I never got the to "good part",

I am a huge fan of "Scenes from a Sista" and waited anxiously for the follow-up book. I have chatted with Lolita Files personally on-line and she is a wonderful, warm person, so it pains me to say that I did not like this book. Reesy is shallow and self-absorbed, and even though I understand that she and Misty are girls to the end, I found it unbelievable that Misty would put up with Reesy attitude. Misty was a doormat throughout the whole book. I'm hoping the third time is the charm for Lolita's next book.

FUNNY, LAUGH OUT LOUD BUT IMPRACTIBLE ENDING,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Getting to the Good Part (Paperback)
I thought this book was absolutely hilarious. The characters actually reminded me of some "sistah" girlfriends that I have. In that respect, it was pretty realistic and authentic. From a practical standpoint however, I thought the ending was somewhat impractical. The basis of the relationship between Dandre and Neesy ( from her perspective at least) was one based on deception, manipulation and revenge. Based on her behavior with Helmut, there was no reason for Dandre to trust Reesy again. In real life, she would have been SOL! The most poignant line in the book was when Dandre says to Neesy " I'm saddened by the fact that I believed in something that was never really there. I hate to think that a part of me that was once very trusting and very much alive will never be that way again". I think the ending would have been better and more realistic if it had been consistent with the above statement.

Off the Hook,
By A Customer
This review is from: Getting to the Good Part (Paperback)
I read scenes from a sistah, and I am now in the middle of reading Getting to the good part. Off the Hook. I haven't even finish the book. This is among my top ten list. Lolita Files does an excellent job on developing both characters, Reesy and Misty. Reesy will get under your skin, and Misty, well you just have to shake your head at her at times. If you are looking for an exciting novel, that on the Edge, I would highly recommend this book. |
