2.0 out of 5 stars Bloody boring
For a book about a band who wear their excesses on their nostrils, there's very few lurid tales. We get superficial, one-dimensional analysis of their Irish-Mancunian roots, and the story of their childhoods and family backgrounds . We get directionless, frequently irrelevent details. Such as full transcripts of Noel-Liam arguments about nothing. Little morning glory,...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Boys: From the dole to Oasis, May 18, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Getting High: The Adventures of Oasis (Paperback)
Hewitt uses his amazing accounts with the boys on the road and puts them into an remarkable story filled with the twists and turns of the band we all love. This story about Oasis goes from Peggy Gallagher's childhood days, to Noel and Liam growing up in Manchester, to the dismissial of former drummer Tony McCarroll, and every exciting night where Oasis is playing once again, to a capacity crowd. Hewitt sometimes goes a little to in depth about the history of the lands and Peggy's childhood, but it does help to understand things a little better, especially if you live in the states. You will be shocked at the great detail and insight Hewitt has into the lives of Oasis. One of the best parts is when Liam is eating breakfast in a hotel and already that morning there are 500 people standing outside the window watching him eat breakfast. Liam closes the curtains and the fans go crazy. This is one of the first times he realizes how big Oasis really is. It is a great book so buy it and read it now!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great biography of a great band, June 28, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Getting High: The Adventures of Oasis (Paperback)
I really enjoyed this book. It was terrific to read how Noel and Liam Gallagher triumphed over a tough childhood to become successful musicians. Not only does this book tell the Oasis story in full, but it includes some terrific photographs. Being a HUGE Oasis fan, I must say that this book describes just about anything you want to know about the band, their music, and their lives. I would recommend this book to any Oasis fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oasis Forever, August 18, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Getting High: The Adventures of Oasis (Paperback)
When I first heard about the book I went straight to the bookstores to find it. After I got a copy I was attached to the book about their lifestyles and kind of things they do fun. The fights between Noel and Liam were exciting as the band's get drunk all night until the next dawn. It shows what the band Oasis is about and what happen in their past. Tells through the Gallagher Bros. sadistic lives to their success in the careers with help of friends, family and band members. Follows through band members such as Guigsy, Bonehead, and Alan White lives including producer, manager, and friends such as Johnny Hopkins, Mark Coyley, and Paul Weller as well. This book tells what Oasis is about. Their die-hard habits of partying, drinking, smoking, and shooting up drugs also included in this book. After reading the book, you want to go back for more and makes you want Live Forever. Highly recommended for Oasis fans

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Choice, November 29, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Getting High: The Adventures of Oasis (Paperback)
I would like to express how pleased I was after I bought this book for this time on Amazon.com.

I went after a good friend's advice, a friend that reads a lot and had previously bought other second handed books from Amazon.com. And he was right!

My book got here in Brazil, that's right, in Brazil, in perfect conditions and in good timing!

Other than that, sometimes we can't get titles in its original language down here, and this was the case again. Also, final price with shipping included was cheaper than most books purchased at stores around here.

The book's conditions were perfect, it actually looked as if I'd just bought it at a store, brand new!

I truly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Oasis Biography, April 8, 2007
This review is from: Getting High: The Adventures of Oasis (Paperback)
I can't believe some of these reviews for this book. I've read a lot of books about Oasis and this is by far the best I've come across. I absolutely love Paolo Hewitt's style; it is not boring, cliche, etc. like some others have described it. If you only read one book about this band this is definitely the one to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Book on The Best Band of the 1990s, April 6, 2000
By
This review is from: Getting High: The Adventures of Oasis (Paperback)
This is far and away the finest book written on the best band of the 1990s, Oasis. Hewitt avoids the tabloid-style writing that most publications on the band make use of, and praises the band without sounding like a 14-year-old writing a fan letter. It's a fabulous glimpse into the history and day-to-day lives of Oasis, the Gallagher brothers in particular. The only real downside is that now that the book is a couple years old, it kind of leaves you hanging and wanting more! (The book ends before the band has even recorded "Be Here Now".)

5.0 out of 5 stars The actual best book on the best band in the world right now, October 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Getting High: The Adventures of Oasis (Paperback)
Well, what can I say ? This books tells it all, it's a real pleasure to read the "adventures" of Oasis, it seems like it's a novel...Oasis IS the best band since the Beatles, and this book will tell you why, it's entertaining, never boring, informative, funny...It has it all, brilliant... From their difficult childhood to Top of The Pops, this is the exact story of Oasis, I've never read a book that fast, once you begin reading, you can't stop... If you don't have it yet, go and buy it...
