5.0 out of 5 stars SPRING BREAK FILM FESTIVAL VERSION February 19, 2007
I am William Olsen, the writer, producer, director of GETTING IT ON, and I'd like to say that VCI did an excellent job of re-releasing Getting It On in their Spring Break Film Festival line. I am very pleased with the transfer and all of the extras. Enjoy!

2.0 out of 5 stars A bit of a disappointment May 6, 2007
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I actually got this mixed up with another similar title from the 80's.anyhow as far as this movie goes I wasn't blown away by it.I'ma sucker for low budget+lowbrow entertainment but this film while in theory was a good idea the execution leaves alot to be desired. It's just not funny enough as comedy nor interesting enough to pass as a drama. The main characters or carricutures as a more appropiate term are generic and really give you no good reason to root for them.the techie nerd who's a poor little rich kid isn't as well developed as say Philly was in Private Lesson's or the luckless in love Gary in The Last American Virgin.I did enjoy the suburban New York setting as oppossed to NYC and the 80's music, dress and technology was fun to see again on screen. The happy ending though cliche was satisfying too.Overall it's an okay movie but there are tons better from the era,

5.0 out of 5 stars Filmed when at my school when I went there. July 14, 2013
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
This really is a cheesy movie, the only reason I wanted it is because it was made at the high school when I went there.

I want to state up front that the three-star rating I've given this NEW re-release of the 1983 teen-sex comedy is based on how well I liked the 93-minute film. If you know the film and it is your type of comedy you will probably love this new release because of the bonus materials. As Write/Producer/Director William Olsen states in a "review" he posted a few years ago - there are unauthorized versions being released, not what he provided to VCI. Bob Blair - owner of VCI - always tries to remaster or restore their releases and add bonuses when he can. That's the case here.

I noticed that- as I write thin (4/21/13) Amazon does not have the 2013 release listed but Amazon usually groups ALL reviews of a title together- even with different release dates. So make sure you are buying the 2013 version.

The film came out at the time of the teen sex comedies like "Porky's" and "Getting it On" is no different. There are sex jokes and a few scenes of topless women. But the clothes (and the old VCRs that are involved in the plot) are definitely reminders of the 80s. The acting - by folks you never hear from again - is wooden and the budget low. If I remember correctly, it was about $200,000. (in 1983). I learned this by listening to the 10 minute bonus "photo featurette with Commentary" where Olsen talks about how he funded the project - and gives advice to other budding filmmakers. There's also a full length commentary from Olson (I didn't listen to that) as well as a 5 minute section with the New York auditions for the 4 actors who got the roles. (How often do you get to see auditions?). It did prove to me that the actors were as wooden in the auditions as in the film, despite Olsen's direction. (I guess it was another case of "you get what you pay for".
