This review is from: Getting My Think On (Paperback)
As a long time reader of Sondra Harris' Blog, Golfwidow's Ministry of Sillywalks, I was familiar with most of this material. Still, I wanted to read it again all in one place. I wasn't disappointed and there were some surprises, things I had somehow missed before. Old episodes came back to life and I have the best time revisiting them still again with other Golfwidow fans. It's like discussing old Seinfeld episodes. Sondra's takes on so many subjects from pop culture to beer to husbands who can't shop are a never ending sillywalk. I love most, though, her loving exasperation with her own family members. She exposes each of their foibles hilariously but in a way that you know won't offend them. She is also her own best target. Maybe that's how she gets away with it. This is a book that people should keep handy for when you really need to smile, laugh or guffaw. There are chapters that will fulfill each of those needs. There are a few that could bring a tear, too, if you are so inclined. Sondra is a voice you'll want to read again and again so let's encourage her.

Falling Off of My Chair Laughter,
By Michael Manning (Cincinnati, OH USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Getting My Think On (Paperback)
There is so much about Sondra Harris' book that brings joy and what I call "falling out of my chair onto the floor" laughter that is sorely needed in this world. With that kooky introduction, I must tell tell you that "Getting My Think On" should be required reading for the United Nations, Washington bureaucrats, people who are genuinely convinced that they have no personality -- or worse -- no sense of humor. I believe that they will discover both after reading this book. It is a delightful house party replete with Sondra's irrepressible dose of "brain confetti," laughter, and love. Add to that one of the most gifted writers in years, and you have all the ingredients for a kinder and more humorous take on "the human condition." I loved it and so will you.

This book is funnier than a penguin walking along minding his own business and then another penguin goes and puts out its foot and trips him up, and then he falls into the icy Antarctic waters. Yeah.
