Book Description

November 2, 2007
Masturbation is like tuning a radio—you don’t know what frequencies you’ll enjoy until you play with the knobs. Masturbation has a complicated stigma attached to it; everybody is doing it, but not everybody talks about it. Some were told that touching oneself would cause cute kittens to die, some were told masturbation led blindness. Getting Off: A Woman's Guide to Masturbation is here to debunk those masturbation myths, and reinforce the truth.

Masturbation is a totally natural and normal way for women to connect with and find pleasure in their bodies.

Fun, informative, and illustrated, Getting Off provides women with a wealth of masturbation knowledge—its history, the mechanics of it, the joys of sexy toys—plus clear, concise tips on getting off.

More About the Author

In addition to being a sex writer, author, blogger, video host, producer and director, Jamye Waxman, M.Ed., is a well-known and sought after educator and lecturer in the field of human sexuality and relationships. Jamye utilizes her Masters in Sex Education from Widener University and her recent SFSI certification to demystify female pleasure, arm the public with accurate information, and empower people with the ability to pursue fun and freedom in their sex lives.

Waxman's career as a sex educator began as at world-famous sex toy shop Babeland in New York, and since she has gone on to be internationally recognized for her contributions to the sex and media community. In 2005, Wired.Com dubbed her "the nexxxt generation of sex educator," and she has gone on since to live up to that title.

Jamye is the CGO of gasm.org, a website devoted to female sexual pleasure, health and orgasms. She has created her own adult education and erotic films in addition to her collaborations as a producer and co-writer with adult film pioneer Candida Royalle. Her three-part video series, Personal Touch, was put out by Adam and Eve Pictures in 2007, and her latest educational film, 101 Positions for Lovers (Sensual Couples) has received praise from Fleshbot and author of The Guide to Getting It On, Paul Joannides, Psy.D. In addition to posting her own "reality" videos on her Youtube channel. Waxman's sex advice videos appear on Cherry TV's Fresh Advice, Sex Health Guru and FortheGirls.

Jamye has also served as the sex advice columnist for various publications including LA Weekly (After Dark website), Playgirl Magazine ("Sex.Ed.") and Steppin' Out Magazine ("Hot Wax"). She regularly acts as a consultant, and has been interviewed and quoted in both printed and online publications such as Cosmopolitan, Glamour, Women's Health, Men's Health, Zink, AVN, Forbes, Xbiz, RealitySandwich, Jane, Zug, Heeb, Time Out New York, The NY Daily News, and YourTango. Her writing can also be found at her own blog, Jamye Waxman: Sex Matters.

She is the author of several books, including the award-winning book Getting Off: A Woman's Guide to Masturbation (Seal Press) and Women Loving Women: Appreciating and Exploring the Beauty of Erotic Female Encounters. She also contributed to the book Naked Ambition: Women Who Are Changing Pornography. JamYe recently collaborated with Emily Morse (of Miss Advised) to create Hot Sex: Over 200 Things You Can Try Tonight, and the two are currently working on an e-book that will offer essential sex tips to straight men. She is also in the process of researching and writing her next book on the proverbial female biological clock, The Wake Up Call.

Back in the day, Jamye was a radio producer for the likes of Joan Rivers, Alan Colmes, Joey Reynolds, Bob Berkowitz and Chaunce Hayden. She is a former TV Producer on Naked NY (Metro TV). As an active participant in her community, she is President of Feminists for Free Expression and a SFSI board member. When she's not writing or playing on camera, she loves traveling to host sex education workshops geared toward Generations X and Y.

These days she spends a good deal of time living the sexy NorCal life in San Francisco and preparing to obtain her MFT at Santa Clara University.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jayme Waxman does a huge service to her gender! March 13, 2008
Format:Paperback
Everyone will learn something from this book. It's packed with interesting and useful information (from very basic to sophisticated) and contains a huge list of resources if you want to know more (or, want to buy some of the great gadgets Jayme writes about). In addition, Jayme peppers the book with quotes from real women so you can know what the rest of us are thinking without having to ask.

If you're a woman, Jayme will teach you what you need to know about your sexual biology and how it can make you happy (or happier). If you're a man, you will understand womens' bodies (and minds) in a way that will make you a better lover.

Jayme writing is smart and fun. You'll feel like you're talking to one of your girlfriends at a slumber party. Most importantly, she tells it like it is without apology. Sex is fun! Get this book and let Jayme show you how to make it even better!

3.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre book April 7, 2008
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book may have been better when I was 18, but at 54, no new info provided. It was pretty well written and had good graphics to teach the proper name/location for things. If you're young and just studying this information, it would be a good book. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother buying it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good For Beginners September 3, 2012
Format:Paperback
This was given to me as a present.

I am a woman who is already in touch with her body, so unfortunately there was nothing really interesting or new in this book for me. It's good to know there is somebody publishing this information, though, for less knowledgeable women.

That being said, anyone who is getting over some sort of mental block or who just hasn't tried exploring, young or old, would benefit from this book. It touches (hehe) every subject possible to make you look at your body and your self differently.

If a guy were to be so brave to buy this book, I would give him a high five. There are a lot of little 'secrets' in here to help men get more intimate and be more attentive to their women.
