Getting Out & Staying Out: A Black Man's Guide to Success After Prison Great advice for black men both in prison and coming out of prison. Really, it contains good advice for all black men period. IF black men who have been incarcerated got out and followed the advice in this book, we would have hundreds of empty prisons in no time because they wouldn't go back like 75% of them presently do.

This is probably the best book for black men who are being released from prison to read. It is tailored to their specific situations and needs and gives excellent advice on how to navigate through the pitfalls and circumstances that they may face after serving time in jail or prison. A true must have for formerly incarcerated black men who want to never go to prison again.

"Getting Our & Staying Out" by Demico Boothe is a refreshing guide to prisoner reentry. The tag line of "4 Simple Suggestions in 4 Short Chapters That Will Help Formerly Incarcerated African-American Men Re-Enter Society" really does tell it all.

The 70-page book is divided into the following four chapters:

Doing Time: You've Got to Be There; Make the Best of It!
I'm Out! Now What??
Be an Entrepreneur; It's the Only Way!
Find a Good Woman and Settle Down. Isn't It About Time?

While I'm not a fan of short books, this book is certainly worth its $10 price tag on Amazon. The text, penned by a former ex-prisoner who has made a successful life for himself post-release, is refreshingly simple, succinct, and accurate. Heck, it's even inspirational. If you know someone who's either about to be released from prison or who was recently released, buy them this book. It's short enough to read in a day or two and it holds some very powerful suggestions and ideas to help former prisoners reinvent themselves and become successful in the world outside of prison.

I sent this book to a friend, and I also downloaded it in Kindle so that I can read along. I wish that I could send this book to every inmate who's getting ready for their release date or parole date. Very useful practical information. The author keeps it real while providing step by step tools to be successful on the outside. Great read!

I bought this book for Samory Monds. He is the reviewer. Lana Mitchell
Getting Out & Staying Out: A Black Man's Guide to Success After prison, is a good book (guide) for anyone who is in prison or who has just gotten out of prison. All of the points that Mr. Boothe makes are valid, and I think will help you to reach the goal of staying out. He, Demico Boothe, speaks about planning and having discipline, which are the only ways a man coming out of prison, Black or White, will stay out. I like that he gears the book towards Blackmen, who really need a guide on how to beat the odds. I plan, after my release, and during my current prison sentence, to implement his guide, to help me meet my goals and become a better person.

The title can be misleading as you would think only those affected by the penal system can benefit from this book; quite the contrary. Mr. Boothe presents a practical and "common sense" guide, in a concise and cogent fashion, to ex-prisoners by the way of "Getting Out & Staying Out"; which can be read in less than 2 hours. The basic premise for success, as he demonstrates very well, is as the old saying goes, "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail". He demonstrates through his own experiences the key aspect to success, "preparation meeting opportunity".

Within this guide, Mr. Boothe's fully recognizes that Black men are their own saviors when it comes to ceasing the activity of Black on Black crime. He stresses the importance of self-ownership and accountability of one's actions, responsibility and duty to one's family and community, creating an entrepreneurial mindset and surrounding oneself with positive influences as necessary tools in shifting the paradigm to one of necessary positive change.

This book is an asset to all in that it is a reminder that diligence, determination, and dedication are necessary factors to building favorable outcomes. His story is one of inspiration. It shows that God can use what men consider, the very least of us, and make them a teacher of nations!!!

I chose this book for help with a school project. It fit the bill. The information was helpful for my need but is also helpful for someone who needs to stay out of jail. Actually, this book would be helpful for anyone who needs direction on being consistent with life. I congratulate Mr. Boothe for his efforts in helping others with his testimony.

The book was short and to the point. Well Said !!!

The information is accurate and hopefully more valuable coming from someone who has experienced what he is writing about.
