As a kindergarten teacher who is expected to have her students do independent literacy centers, this book is great! Good ideas, with very few materials to buy. Self checking, and leveled, too!

This book has many good 'independant reading center' games for children that are learning to read. The pictures are clear and easy to copy and color. I reviewed this book with our reading specialist this spring, and I went home that night and bought it.

The book offers hundreds of small group literacy activities that are based on where children are and where you want to take them. They realize that not all students are cookie cutter and address how to allow them all to grow by meeting them at their current level. I really enjoyed the book and am in the process of creating the activities to start using with small groups. The only down side is that you have to create all activities (cutting, coloring, laminating, etc), it would have been much easier to include full color activities.

Being a Learning Support Teacher. My role sees me having to provide intervention to students who are struggling. This year as a school we have decided to work with each of the infants grades as a whole so that all children have the opportunity to take part in activities that build phonemic awareness. Three days a week for 20 each session each class takes part in a school devised program. This book and its clearly set out activities formed the basis of what was covered in kinder and early year 1. It was easy to use, sequential and fun and could be used for children who had absolutely no knowledge at all right through to the more capable student. I hunted around for quite a while to find a book that would work and this is one of them.
