I have read several books by Judith Sachs and find this one the best so far!! "Healing Power of Sex" changed my life and saved my marriage. this book provides no new information. It's riding on the heels of other books detailing the complex nature of female sexuality and response. Do yourself a favor and save your money. You'd learn more reading the cover stories of NY Times Magazine and Newsweek that dealt with all this material a year or two ago.

4.0 out of 5 stars Revitalizes an old relationship, July 27, 2002

"Getting the Sex" is a great book that you can pick, find what you're looking for, and put down. The author's give a comprehensive understanding of the woman's psyche, but its also a great resource for men to get a better understanding of their partner. Put it on your bedside table - it can lead to a richer dialogue between partners and ultimately a closer relationship.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helpful. Clear. Classy., April 10, 2002

I must have reached some wild Auntie Mame stage: I have now read a book about sex that I thought was so good I bought a copy for my nineteen-year-old daughter. This book was a wonderful read: for me at fifty-two (and suffering from two misconceptions: 1. I already knew everything; and 2. It's time to prepare to enjoy sexuality less, not more), and for young women. I wish I could have read it thirty years ago. I'm glad I've read it now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly readable, informative and useful, February 20, 2002

This book conveys hope, understanding and specific ways to increase pleasure. The inclusion of experiences of women at all life stages made the book readable and accessible. As a woman going through menopause, the most helpful chapters for me were a discussion of women in midlife, cosmetic surgery ("will it make you sexier?") and "how to spark desire." The chapters on cybersex and new medications to enhance sex were also very informative and interesting.

5.0 out of 5 stars First-rate, January 4, 2004

This review is from: Getting the Sex You Want: A Woman's Guide to Becoming Proud, Passionate and Pleased in Bed (Hardcover)
This is a really good book. The writing is entertaining and clear. The information is comprehensive and thorough. It's a pleasure to read, but it's a serious and subtantial book (unlike a lot of the competition). There is no other book on the market quite like it.

An especially good feature is the way the book addresses issues and problems specific to women in many different situations and ages of life. The discussion of up-to-date treatments for sexual problems is well-informed, and offers a balanced appraisal of their effectiveness.

Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars On My Way to Becoming Proud, Passionate, and Pleased In Bed!, February 9, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Getting the Sex You Want: A Woman's Guide to Becoming Proud, Passionate and Pleased in Bed (Hardcover)
I grew up with inaccurate and uncomfortable views and thoughts about sex. I can relate to what Sandra Leiblum and Judith Sachs are talking about in the first part of the book. The second part is the part that helps you to move on.

This is the most up to date book I have ever seen on this subject because it covers web stuff (a nice, anonymous outlet for us girls shy about sex) and the latest medical options. It deals with real examples from sex therapy and it doesn't cost $150 an hour! This book has helped me to move forward sexually, and that's a pretty tall order! Leiblum and Sachs have written an informative book that is bound to help many women. This is THE definitive book to have!

5.0 out of 5 stars A book for any woman or anyone who loves one, March 14, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Getting the Sex You Want: A Woman's Guide to Becoming Proud, Passionate and Pleased in Bed (Hardcover)
I truly believe that any woman who reads this book will find herself in it and learn a great deal about herself as a sexual being. Leiblum and Sachs bring to light the various influences effecting the way women view themselves sexually throughout their lives and how they can overcome the negatives in order to have the fullfiling sexual lives they desire. Especially wonderful is the refreshingly direct way in which women's sexual fantasies as well as sexual problems are approached by these authors.

Also, for men who are interested in learning more about women in general or how they influence the women in their lives, whether it be their wives or daughters, this book is a great resource. As Leiblum and Sachs point out in chapter 3, "It's not so much that men and women don't communicate effectively, it's rather that they are working with different tools on the same material and coming up with different outcomes." If your a guy looking for an easy to read manual, this is a great place to start.
