About the Author

Walt Silva has over 30 years of broadly based real time engineering experience. During this time he has developed over 1,000 machines as engineer or team leader and designed over 1,000 individual products such as thermal and snap action switches and lighting modules. While at Davidson Research Laboratory he designed the first nine-degree of freedom underwater body simulator. He is the author of 11 books and nearly 50 technical articles and is well known throughout the world as a CAD training expert. He founded and bootstrapped four very successful companies ranging from precision fabrication and construction to writing CAD technical publications. As an active proponent, speaker, instructor and consultant on CAD techniques, CAD standards, and concurrent engineering tools, he has helped to revolutionize the product development process. Mr. Silva has a BSME degree from Stevens Institute of Technology and a wide range of graduate courses in technology, management and business.

Peter H. Smith was President, Chairman and Co-Founder of CADKEY, Inc. (mechanical software CAD Company). In 1981 he helped produce the first commercial based 3D graphics tablet. He played a key role in the creation and marketing of CADKEY, which won (3) PC Magazine Editors Choice Awards. To date CADKEY has sold over 300,000 systems including more than 1200 seats at Boeing Aircraft. Mr. Smith was a finalist in INC Magazine/Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award. While at CADKEY, he also spearheaded the development of educational programs throughout the world. At Pratt & Whitney Aircraft he worked and published in the areas of video image processing, inspection systems, transonic flow, heat transfer, numerical methods, acoustics and robotics. He introduced image processing and pattern recognition to United Aircraft where he established an Image Processing Lab. Smith was director of Strategic Planning at the National Center for Manufacturing Science from 1994 to 1995. Smith received his BS in Physics from Bucknell University, MS in Physics from Trinity College and an MS in Applied Math from RPI.
