I am convinced that the best way to make money in commodities or options is to rehash info and write another book and then get people to buy your book. You certainly won't learn anything in this book to trade on.

No Useful Information Anywhere in this book,

This review is from: Getting Started in Commodities (Paperback)
This is the first negative review I've done for a book but It had to be done. I know absolutely nothing about commodities and this book still did not teach me anything new. The book doesn't cover the influences of supply and demand, doesn't list all the commodities and what influence them. Most of the book is a primer on Technical Analysis.

Winning Investment,
This review is from: Getting Started in Commodities (Paperback)
Phenomenal book loaded with useful information for the novice or aspiring commodities trader. I'm outright confused by the negative reviews of this book claiming there is no useful information. The book is geared toward the individual looking to get "started" in commodities, as is clearly stated in the title. Negative reviewers... what are you searching for? This book serves as a solid foundation for the individual seeking to familiarize themselves with the complex world of commodities trading. It goes above and beyond that of just being a primer. This book is a great intro to the essentials, including a synopsis on the various markets and exchanges; in depth explanations on technical & fundamental analysis techniques; risk management; money management; & psychology. I commend and thank George Fontanills for obviously putting such time and effort into this book. Loaded with great info and resources to point the reader in the right direction, Getting Started in Commodities is a solid investment that I will continue to study, build upon, & refer to often.

Some of this, some of that, and you have a book,
This review is from: Getting Started in Commodities (Paperback)
Get it from the library, flip though it and move on. This book might be good for the absolute beginner, but that is it. The book lists exchanges that trade various commodities (you can find this by a search), then touches upon fundamental analysis, and technical analysis (indicators, chart patterns...) the same stuff people wrote about hundreds of times. If the book focused on contract size, tick movement, where to get data, some useful trading ideas then maybe it would be worth it.Now for a book on commodities/futures why does the author go into buying stocks that are tied to commodities? He has an entire chapter "Commodity Trading in the Stock Market" where he lists stocks that are related to futures. For Example: You want to trade oil futures? Buy Exxon (wow what a concept) you want to trade metals then... you get the idea. This was just ridiculous. This is not a getting started book. It is a "kitchen sink" book that has too much in it, and some stuff is rotting and needs to be thrown in the trash. The only good things, some reminders. 1. Use MACD as a filter. When the histogram is up, trade to the long side. Of course this does not work all the time. 2. When RSI is over 50 trade long only, under 50 trade short only. This again is same-old knowledge but a good reminder. Again, this does not work all the time. 3. List of close end funds that focus on various futures. Here they are.
