5.0 out of 5 stars Concise "big picture" book
This book is perfect for getting the big picture view of forex trading. It's perfectly titled "Getting Started in Currency Trading". The chapters are concisely written with clear examples that are not cluttered up with useless stories. This book made it easy for me to plan the steps necessary to start trading.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not helpful at all
This book is not helpful for a new trader who wants to get started in the currency market. It does not have any technical indicators explained, nor it has the positive attitude to get you started. I would not recommend this book to anyone anless they are interested in the history of forex, or the explanaition of the trading plantform used by forex brokers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Concise "big picture" book, August 10, 2005
This book is perfect for getting the big picture view of forex trading. It's perfectly titled "Getting Started in Currency Trading". The chapters are concisely written with clear examples that are not cluttered up with useless stories. This book made it easy for me to plan the steps necessary to start trading.
What this book WILL NOT do for you:
1. Give you a step by step methodology for trading

What this book WILL do for you:
1. Make you aware of the main points to keep in mind with trading currencies.
2. Tell you exactly where to look for more information
3. Will not overwhelm you with tons of nuances and indicators
4. Give you a thorough understanding of money management
5. Allow you to make a detailed checklist of what needs to be in place before you put in your first trade.

Hope this helps.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Bang for the Buck, May 22, 2006

This book is perhaps the best introduction for the novice currency trader. Each chapter in the book is short, very straightforward, easily digestible, and full of information. I also like the cautionary attitude the writers of the book have: they warn you about leverage, [...], and illusions of making easy money.

This book should be the first book you purchase and read thoroughly if you are interested in online currency trading. However, you will have to find other books and references once you start (or rather before you start) trading online to gain more knowledge.

More experienced traders (in stocks, options, etc.) will find this book less valuable but this is a little gem for an absolute beginner.

This book is an excellent resource to build a foundation about the FOREX market. I read several books and articles about the FOREX market but this book gave me the best understanding about currency trading. If you don't know anything about currency trading, this book has the resources in it to give you the basic about FOREX. I would recommend "Getting Started in Currency Trading" by Michael Archer to all beginners. I am a beginner to the FOREX market and beleive that I will be very success as a Currency trader with the foundation information in this book. I am ready to open a demo account and test the FOREX market without risking any money. Michael's book tells you how to do this plus recommend you open a demo account to practice before jumping into the currency market with your money at risk.

5.0 out of 5 stars All The Fundamentals, August 22, 2005
It clearly explains the currency market, how it works, how to get a free practice account and great websites to check out. For trading strategies you need to research elsewhere or invent them yourself.

I am just getting started in currency trading. I want to make this a career & this book answered so many questions in my head. This book is an excellent catalyst for someone that has no clue about currency trading. By the end, you are going to want to buy ALOT more books. Trust me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good primer on the forex market, June 23, 2006
I purchased this book because I wanted a primer on the forex market and trading concepts used in that market. This book provides an overview of the forex market, which includes a brief history, the mechanics of trading, and an overview of fundamental and techinical analysis. While this book does not delve deeply into forex, it does serve as an excellent primer and thus lives up to its title of "Getting Started."

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful primer for forex trading!!!, March 17, 2007
Before someone can write poetry he must learn the alphabet and some grammar rules. Before you trade forex you should read this book to make forex "poetry" by trading well. This book is a concise and clear presentation of all of the basic ideas needed to trade forex.

It seems to me that there are two kinds of people who will not enjoy this book. The first kind of person will never understand the difference between a "pip" being a trading unit of currency and the funny thing on the end of an orange! Beware of this kind of person. They should spend more time watching the food channel to pick up on new cooking techniques. The second type of person is looking for trading techniques and would do well to read the author's excellent work on charting techniques for forex trading.
Take note, these men are SERIOUS traders and have the rare talent to bring complicated ideas to different levels of readers. This is a primer, nothing else. If you read this book and do not "get anything" from this then you should not be in the forex trading game. You will have learned a very inexpensive lesson. If this book makes no sense to you consider going to cooking school.
However, there are thousands of newbie traders that should own and use this book. Between page 1 and page 182 is a collection of all of the basic ideas that you will need to play this amazing game of forex trading. Good trading to all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Insightfull, January 9, 2006

I have been a day trader in stocks and options for the last 7 years. I started to investigate trading the FOREX and was told by a fellow day trader to read this book. I purchased Mr. Archer's book and he made it very simple to understand the funtamentals of the FOREX and how to trade it. Over the years I have wittnessed friends of mine spend thousands of $$$$ on books, tapes, software, and seminars on trading and they just wasted their money.
This books will give you the basics you need to understand the FOREX and you won't have to pay a lot of $$$ on over priced informercials! This book is worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best guides, January 24, 2006
This is one of the best beginner's guides for Forex. I like it because it covers all of the basics and explains everything you need to know about the currency market. The book even goes into the basics of technical and fundamental analysis and trading psychology. What it doesn't cover is how to trade and trading strategies. But you must know everything in this book before you can work on a strategy.

Some of the topics covered include the History of Forex, terms, opening an account, record keeping, calculating profits, and money management. Of particular interest are their lists of characteristics of successful traders, and common mistakes.

5.0 out of 5 stars As Adverised, March 16, 2006

I give this product 5 stars because it is exactly in line with what it is advertised to be, a good rudimentary read into the FX markets and Fx trading.
There is no glit and glimmer, no formulas, and no systems.
For the price, I am satisfied and it has a place on my book shelf.
