5.0 out of 5 stars Very good book!, June 21, 1999
By A Customer

I've read other books claiming to be "beginner" electronics books, only to have them launch into indecipherable technical theory. Very confusing to someone getting started! It seems other books were more interested in impressing you than teaching.

This book uses simple analogies and circuits to walk the reader through everything -- his section on transistors is especially excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars For the beginner, September 23, 1998

This book is an excellent choice for anyone wanting to get started in the world of electronics. In his own easy-to-understand style, Mims covers the electricity principles, simple components such as resistors and capacitors, then moves on to more complex designs involving mosfets, digital IC's, photonic components, etc. The last few pages are filled with 100 simple circuits, from voltage doublers to an LED counter. I would highly recommend this book - having used it myself a few months ago to get started.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love it!, December 18, 2003
This review is from: Getting Started in Electronics/276-5003A (Paperback)
I bought this book when I was a teenager, and it helped spark my excitement about electronics. I went on to get a degree in Electrical Engineering. How's that for a recommendation! This book makes learning the subject fun. Forrest explains things using pictures and intuitive explanations that is worlds apart from the formal (boring) way most textbooks use.

5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST book for figuring out electronics!, December 17, 2002

This review is from: Getting Started in Electronics/276-5003A (Paperback)
I own this excellent book and reread and refer to it often,I recently helped a friend find one, which was extremely difficult. This book is the easiest book for the beginner on electronics,it is marvelous!I always wanted to know how things worked and what a resistor and transistor and diodes did and everything else,I am super happy to have found this book because it explains everything EASILY,yet PRECISELY and is easy to read.IT OPENED UP THE WORLD OF ELECTRONICS TO ME!I wish I had read it sooner,it's a quick read from what electricity is and why to digital IC's and everything inbetween. It's the first one I grab off the shelf when I need to figure out or reference something! My recommendation is BUY,BEG,BORROW,or STEAL IT! - YOU NEED IT!

A great short introduction to analoge and digital electronics. I've never seen more elegent explainations of how basic components work and how they perform in circuits. Totally focused. I still refer to it frequently.

This is a very wonderful book for those whom want ot learn about electronics and really get started in electronics. Unlike other books, this book provides an easily comprehensible introduction into electronics. You need not be an interlect or have any bit of knowledge about electronics to read and greatly understand this book. This should be the #1 book for those who want to not only get an idea about electronics, but also for those whom want to actually get started in electronics. The book is very informative and is very good at introducing electronics in an enjoyable manner. I highly recommend this book.

If you are interested in electronics, have a son or daughter who is interested in electronics, or have ever wondered how electronic things work, GET THIS BOOK. It is hands down the best introduction to electronics money can buy. It covers the principles without getting bogged down in the mathematics and focuses on "making things work".

I cannot recommend anything my Forrest Mimms highly enough. If there were a way to give this book six stars, I would.
