5.0 out of 5 stars Lucid. Comprehensive.
Lucid and comprehensive is my first thougt on this book. It definitely deserves a look. Has a valuable overview of the HIPAA compliance and clearly explains things that need to be done. Helpful for beginner as well. It serves a great purpose as a reference book with lots of information.

This review is from: Getting Started with HIPAA (Paperback)
If you are looking for a solid review of the HIPAA Security Rule, I would suggest looking elsewhere. The breadth and depth of this chapter is very narrow (a mere 25 pages of shallow content) and I suspect it was actually written before the Final Security Rule was released in February of this year (2003). The frameworks for assessing Security Policicies and Procedures are nearly non-existent. While the book does have some solid HIPAA content, it's definitely not geared towards accurately assessing one's HIPAA Security Posture.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good information; poor editing., July 31, 2003
By
This review is from: Getting Started with HIPAA (Paperback)
The book has some very useful information, but the style and or lack of editing detracts and distracts from its readability. For example: on page 2 the entire 4th paragraph is repeated word for word on page 7. On page 7 the 7th paragraph is repeated on page 9. The last paragraph on page 12 is identical to the first paragraph on page 13. On page 546 the first and third paragrpahs are identical, and the second and fourth paragraphs are identical. When reading along one gets a sense of deja vu and suspects they picked up the reading from the wrong starting point. When reading along one gets a sense of deja vu and suspects they picked up the reading from the wrong starting point. :) In summary, useful information, but fire the editor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Summary Text, June 24, 2003

As many have already stated, this is much friendlier reading that the Federal Register docs. Although I have found several inconsistencies they are not major and do not detract from a well written text.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST read for understanding HIPAA, June 6, 2003
This review is from: Getting Started with HIPAA (Paperback)
"Getting Started With HIPAA" brought me a complete understanding of the regulations as well as it's impact on patients, providers, and payers. It continues with key steps for compliance such as Gap Analysis and Remediation. Getting Started With HIPAA is a practical and solution-oriented text that presents HIPAA in a clear and concise manner.

Thank you Mr. Pabrai for writing this book & big thanks to Amazon for bringing this book to needy people like me.

5.0 out of 5 stars HIPAA language made easy, June 4, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Getting Started with HIPAA (Paperback)
I began learning about HIPAA by reading the legislation directly from the Federal Register. Yikes, talk about brain melt. This book boils down the legal jargon into language that actually makes sense. In addition, it defines key steps that one should follow in order to bring their organization into compliance. (I suppose that's why its called Getting Started With HIPAA!) I would definately recommend this book.

After getting the responsibility of a Compliance Officer recently, I found this book from HIPAA Academy. I read lot of material from HHS & CMS website which was very difficult to understand and after reading this book now things are falling in place. I plan to start my compliance process ASAP and later I will persue my HIPAA Academy certifications. I got the worth of my money by buying this book and value for time spent on finding a good HIPAA book.
